Jason,

The doors can be opened if a DeLorean flips over onto its top. The door and 
ground act as a lever and fulcrum and only moderate strength is required to 
open the door the 15 inches required to escape. This was addressed in an 
article in "Popular Science" in March or April,1981. This article was 
recently reprinted in the summer issue of "DeLorean World."
