Marc, Your heart is certainly in the right place, but be aware that quality speaker cabinets are designed with the aid of highly sophisticated computers and other state of the art techniques. To match the low end response of today's digitally produced music every facet is taken into account, i.e.: speaker size, wattage, interior air volume, height, width, angle, base ports or not, construction materials, fasteners, glues, acoustical damping materials, and more. You may be able to construct a box that looks right, but to make it sound right is a much bigger challenge. Oddly enough many years ago I bought a speaker box for my DeLorean. It was the perfect size with a low profile. It held four 8" speakers and sounded great. When we converted the car to a BTTF show car we removed the speaker to make room for the "flux capacitor". The cabinet which is covered in a gray felt material is sitting on a shelf in our storage area.
