Sounds like you just verified the problem is not the Tach. Have you checked fuse 1 for good contact? Also, be sure the ground wire to the ECU is in place and making proper connection. When is the last time you did a tune-up? A faulty or used up Dist cap and/or rotor could be at fault. Plug wires?
