Good points, Chris. Let me point out that if you do remove the front lock link, DO NOT THROW IT AWAY if you EVER plan on possibly upgrading to door lock actuators. The actuator installation REQUIRES this bar to be there, even if it's not physically connected to the frontal door lock.
