Assuming its electrical output matches whatever the cruise control wants to see, you **might** get away with it on a manual transmission car. That's a big "if". In an automatic, the normal slip of the converter would cause unstable speed control going up and down moderate slopes, and if you start climbing a hill and the transmission downshifts, be prepared to scrape your nose off the steering wheel as the cruise control slows the engine down - a lot. Overall, nice idea but probably not practical.
