here is what the ref will be looking for: 1.) the engine must be the same year or newer than the one already in the car. 2.) you must retain all the emissions devices from the donor engine 3.) you cannot down-grade technology (you gotta stick with fuel injection) 4.) you must retain the cat 5.) you must pass tailpipe for the year of the donor vehicle I have talked to a few referees and theses are things that they mentioned. also, never call it an engine swap, it is an "engine change". I would recommend picking a later model engine that has electronic fuel injection cause it will have less drive belt items. an engine from about 1990 to 1995 is a good selection because its not OBDII and has less restrictions. for more detailed questions feel free to ask (on list or off list). Also, this list can be flexible with the exception of rule #4.
