It does not matter what this guy's name is. This is becoming more and more common. It is easy to forge what could pass for a bank check nowadays with a personal computer and a laser printer. You CANNOT accept a bank check, certified check, or cashier's check without verifacation. Become suspicious when it is for more than the actual transaction. DO NOT ACCEPT ANYTHING BUT CASH ON A WEEKEND!!!!! They will try to force you to make the sale quick on a weekend when you cannot call anyone to verify the funds. The police are no help, they have their hands full with violent crimes, this is just an annoyance to them. Insist on ONLY the EXACT amount and it MUST have YOUR NAME on it. Just for insurance get their driver's license and car license plate (a picture of them would be nice) just in case you do have to call the police. The worst part of this is that your bank will give you the cash on a forged bank check but when they find out it is bad they are going to deduct it from YOUR account. Now you are out the car AND the money. By the time you catch up to them they will have resold the car again. If you can prove it was an illegal sale you may be able to get the DMV to give you your car back but it will be a monumental hassle.
