I always tell people its British. Northern Ireland is under British rule not Irish. I use this argument when I want to take it to a British car show and I am challenged about it being an American car. I too would have argued the Italian design for an Italian car show, after all, that's why you see Ford Cobras at british car shows, its a British design.
