It isn't that simple. There can be long-term consequences. The most immediate ones are fuel economy, emmisions, and power. You can burn valves, overheat the motor when under high loads, blow out pistons, damage the starter, etc. The ONLY correct setting is the stock specifacation. If you insist on playing around with the timing you don't have the equipment and expertise that can compare with the manufacturer. There is little to be gained by affecting only 1 adjustment. At the very least you need a timing light! No self-respecting mechanic would adjust the timing without one, you have no idea what you did without it.
