Oh for goodness sakes, you know what I mean -- there's no direct linkage between the cable and the speedometer needle like there is between the cable and the odometer numbers. I call the properties of a magnet "electrical". Whatever the proper term, the cable is not physically connected to the speedometer. That's what allows it to bounce and flutter (don't see the odometer behaving like that).
