Sounds like the classic hot start problem. You can either try the plug swap or you can pull the return line off the acumulater and see if fuel is coming out when you run the pump. It could also be a problem with the ballast resistors and/or the bypass relay or corroded, dirty connections. I would start with the fuel system. BTW pumping the gas pedal should not have any effect except physcological.
