[DML] Re: Alternator Leaking

I've seen that. It's not oil or grease at all, it's the "potting" 
plastic from the voltage regulator. It means that the alternator has 
been pretty hot at some point. Mine was still working when I replaced 
it, and it looked like that for a looong time - several years. If you 
take the alternator apart you'll find that plastic sealing the 
voltage regulator chip has melted and you can see the chip module 
itself. 

So - probably not an emergency, but put it on your to-do list.
