[DML] I'm Curious...

I am rather curious on something.  Just to be a little bit on the 
different side, has anyone ever though of/attempted to put an 
automatic transmission shifter on the column?  Is it even possible to 
do that considering that the column is collapsable/adjustable?  Not 
to mention a custom made column, and additional (if even it would 
work) shift linkage.  Thanks for looking.
