If I were you Paul, at the very least, I would buy the workshop 
manual.  The brakes are vaccum assitisted.  The manual will explain 
many of your questions.  You can also start at the beginning of this 
forum and learn more than you thought possible.  (That's what I did 
before I bought mine).
