Hello, I pulled off my intake manifold last weekend to clean things up, and I sure am glad that I did. My metal water pipe had rusted through like many of the others, so I replaced it the silicon hose John Hervey sells. While I was in there, I pulled the fuel injectors out. My girlfriend works in a lab where they have ultrasonic cleaners, so I'm going to have her clean them. Is there anything special detergents that should be added to do this? She said she usually uses some combination of water and alcohol for most things. Anyway, getting to the point, when I pulled the fuel injectors, I saw quite a bit of carbon buildup in the combustion chamber. I mean, I can clearly see a metal rod that goes through each chamber, but the bottom of it is really caked up with a hard black material. Is this normal? Should I try to scrub it out? Let me say that I did not have any running problems with my engine before I did this, but I like to fix things before they break. Also wanted to say thanks again to John Hervey for being willing to spend time on the phone with me helping to determine what parts and procedures were necessary to fix up my car. DMCH should take lessons.
