Dave - The area that you asked about is filled up primarily with the 
frame.  The rear "wishbone" section is under there, along with the 
transmission and all of that.  The volume is technically outside of 
the passenger compartment.  I suppose that it would be extremely 
dangerous to ask the question ... "why do you ask?"  Anyway, that's 
what is there.
