One of the most common reasons for a dead battery is the plunger switches on the doors. There should be a rubber tip. They wear out and fall off. When they are missing the plunger isn't pushed far enough to turn the lights off and you don't notice because the lights on the doors can't be seen when the doors are closed. Pull a wire off each switch and see if that helps. A slight hunting when first started is normal.
