Congrats.
Ain't nothing like a properly tuned engine, eh? Have been battling
myself over unrealized high compression spec. *NOW*, finally, car
drives like mammal from underworld (more or less). You can tune close,
but until 100% right car still flies with wings clipped.
ALL used cars, no matter the marque, have significant shakedown
period. Think some new owners give up too soon. That's what frustrates
me about Louie G's #10115 -- car was finally leaving lengthy shakedown
period when it met a Cadillac head on (remember: was other driver's
fault).
Now can move to cosmetic issues. That's my next destination.

Did you really mount 6x8's in the rear? Recently ordered 4x10's but
received 6x8's in error. Am debating whether to send back. Have been
told 6x8 won't fit (never opened trim panels so don't know myself).
6x8 does have better frequency specs than 4x10.
BTW for curious: 5x7/6x8 is dual mount for Ford conversions. 6x8 is
actual max outside dimension.

I just want to make this clear: as I circled around the team's effort
there in the back of the Garage, I was overwhelmed. You really have
to be ON Monster Garage to appreciate all of the stress,
inconvenience, strange teammate interactions and FRUSTRATION that
occurs on set. There is no time to find that .25" spade lug, flared
fitting, 0.875" dia. drill rod, or whatever - you have to "make do"
with the tools (and people) at hand. Oh, and there is a budget and a
five day limit.
Monster Garage is the ultimate experiment in mechanical improvisation.
So, that being said: I want everyone to understand that the builders
on the ep are STARS independent of their final achievement. Success
on this show is often measured in hours; and sometimes, in the
clarity of thought that a good night sleep can provide.
I was the engineer on Monster Garage episode #10, the hot air balloon
(where we spent about $26,000!) And I am proud to stand with my pals
in this episode, based simply upon their effort.

Top end of engine almost identical to a 760, internals all the same.
Sump is almost the same as Renault 30 but deeper and ally. Pump,
alternator, AC compressor, all ancilliaries basically are Renault30.
There are bits you can steal from both 260s and 760s, though more useful
stuff would come from a 760

I had a similar but much more extreme variant of the problem you described. Check to see if your alternator belt is slipping. It sounds like your generating sufficient power at higher RPMs, but not at lower ones which may be slowly draining down your battery with the cooling fans running.
I had a belt spin free after allowing a new garage work on my car. They claimed they'd worked on DMC electrical systems before, 3 within the last month. Belt tore free, took a chunk out of one of the cooling hoses in the process (thankfully it didn't puncture, but it did need replacing). Anyway, when the alternator stopped turning the power dropped right through the floor and the car overheated immediately. Those cooling fans suck up an enormous amount of power, and can drain a battery pretty quick. If you're running less amps than you're using at idle, it might be draining down your battery, then running the fans at less than necessary speed to cool the car.
Good luck finding out the problem.

Yes. they do fit. You have to bend the brackets and "squeeze" but they
do fit. The bigger the better for speakers in the rear.

I've posted a picture of my rear speaker setup at the floowing link. You
can see the old holes on the mounting bracket - I drilled two additional
holes allowing the bracket to be rotated around the lower hole, lifting
the speaker off the wheel arch. These are 5" drivers from memory and the
fit is still tight. Sound quality is still poor, even with the Dynamat
(that's all the silver stuff), though I'm not sure if it's the result of
the speaker not having an enclosure, or the Kenwood head unit. Note how
I've had to mount the ring that would normally be used for the grill,
just to space the cone away from the inside of the trim panel

Reading of the list is good and lots of reading on the sites is good.
This list, however, usually pertains to issues people have, so dont view
it as everyone having an issue with the car. It is easier to view it
with possible issues or even start to notice the common issues.
Another useful thing, going to the delorean get togethers, or even
getting to know local delorean owners.

760 switched to B280 block in 1987. Major internal differences --
don't know if heads, valve train, etc unchanged from B28. Totally
different fuel delivery (L-Jetronic?)
Not all 260/760 series run PRV's either.
Have 2 xRef's I use at parts houses: 1980 260 and 1985 760. Covers B27
and B28. Can usually find something to fit.
DeLo specific parts of course easiest from vendors. And some xRef
items are cheaper from vendors too (injector seals/clips for example).

Subject: Auto tranny pedal assembly/Porsche trans update
Welp, all the Porsche parts have arrived except the clutch assembly and that
should be here next week (hopefully) My thinking is that I can knock this
swap out in a weekend once all the parts are here, so next weekend the swap
should start and be complete. All that's sitting in the car now is the
Chevy engine and the standard pedal assembly. If anyone needs a auto tranny
pedal assembly (don't know why anyone would but) here is mine for sale:

Hi All,
I was swapping out my hood with a spare that I had when I decided it
was a good opportunity to clean the black fiberglass interior of the
"trunk". Anyway the finish of the majority of the black is very dull
and slightly rough but I noticed that in some spots it was smooth and
shiny, so I decided to get my dremel out, with a soft steel brush tip,
and try to buff a corner to see what would happen. Well the dull black
stuff comes off to reveal a shiny a smooth finish.
So my question is - what is the finish supposed to look like, is the
dull black just 20 years of grime or is it supposed to be like that?

Subject: Installed El-Glo instrument cluster photos
I've finally gotten the El-Glo electroluminscent instrument cluster from
Ryan Gould (http://www.deloreanautomotive.com/) installed, and I took a
bunch of photos, several of which almost look decent.
I opted for the Eurostyle font, reverse El-Glo (i.e. dark background, lit
lettering), White "Cobalt blue" font (which glows a nice, deep blue
similar to the newer VW instrument clusters). Note that this isn't the
same color as the normal white color, which glows a much lighter blue. We
originally had a mixup over this, and Ryan was very helpful about getting
things sorted out. I can't say enough good things about him.
While Ryan's kits include red 194 bulbs to replace the regular instrument
cluster bulbs, I really want lit needles, so my plan was to replace the
instrument cluster bulbs with UV LEDs and to paint the needles on the
gauges with a UV-reactive paint. I tried this out, and found that the UV
LEDs, from the distance and orientation they're in in relation to the
gauge faces, didn't cause the needles to fluoresce one bit, so I've
shelved this idea at least temporarily. I may try a cold cathode tube
later, which will produce a lot more UV, or I may even try butchering the
cluster from a car with real lit needles and kludging them into the DMC
cluster somehow. I haven't given up yet!
Anyway, I took a bunch of pictures of the failed UV painting procedure and
the finished product (alas, with Ryan's provided red bulbs), and it really
looks great. The pictures are up at:

The finished product looks better than I expected, and I'm really pleased.
I'm going to keep working on real lit needles, but I know I won't be
disappointed with this in the meantime.
If any of you are on the fence about doing this project, I really
recommend it. It's given my car a whole new look at night.
