Andy,
With the ignition on and the engine not running the voltage at the idle
microswitch, with the switch open, (ie not at idle) should be very close to the
battery voltage. When you make this measurement you are actually measuring the
voltage that "is being passed" through the vacuum solenoid and the Idle ECU via
the diode. Also measure the voltage at the number 1 fuse, with the fuse in
place. It should be close to the battery voltage as I mentioned. If it is not,
disconnect one end of the diode, (to eliminate that factor) and measure again.
If it is now close to the battery voltage, I'd say the diode may be bad
because it should actually isolate anything the ECU is doing to the measurement.
If it is still low, then disconnect the capacitor. If it now goes up to the
battery voltage then the problem was in the capacitor or its wiring. Now with
the diode and capacitor disconnected, if you still have low voltage there then
I would say that the problem is in the vacuum solenoid or its wiring. I just
measured the resistance of my vacuum solenoid and it was about 24 ohms. Also
there was no continuity between the connections on the solenoid and the case
of the solenoid. Check these things and let us know.
Hope to see you all at the Fall Tour.

There are 4 total.
2 Made for the credit card promotion.
1 Made as the last one that came off the line.
And one that's been done later (it wasn't made Gold from the factory).

Interesting talking about Golden DeLoreans ... I was in Macau today at the
SunStar model manufacturers offices (they are making a model for me for the
50th Macau Grand Prix).
They had all the preproduction models there showing the various stainless
steel and gold colours they had tried. I think we got the best on final
production!

Yes, the day is finally here, whether you like it or not.
I hope Delorean enthusiasts will focus on the good, not the bad.
The Delorean Hovercraft episode will debut tonight, Monday Oct. 13
on Discovery Channel at 8pm Central time, repeated at 11pm.
Additional repeats of the Delorean Hovercraft episode will be aired
on Saturday, Oct. 18 at 8pm Central time, repeated at 11pm.
Also, if you miss those times and dates, there is a Monster Garage
marathon being planned, including the repeat of this wild episode.
The Delorean Hovercraft episode will be aired near the middle of the
marathon the day after Thanksgiving, on Nov. 28 at 4pm Central time.
Later,
Rich W.

There's one in Reno, Nevada and the other is in Snyder, Texas. These are the
2 that were ordered through the American Express promotion. As far as I
know, the owner that lives in Maryland has the gold plated "last" Delorean
that was made.
Coincidentally, I emailed Ken Koncelik about this last week. I believe he's
following up on trying to get the one in Maryland to Pigeon Forge (tentative
on the owners health, as I understand). I have a newspaper article talking
about a new car museum in Tupelo, Mississippi by Frank Spain, in which it is
mentioned that there may be a gold Delorean on display there.
As far as I know, there are only 3 gold D's in existence, the one in Snyder
hasn't left there in 20 years, so I'm not sure if the guy in Tupelo has his
on loan from the Reno Museum, or from the guy in Maryland, assuming there's
one still on display there at all. The article is from January of this year.

Does anyone have the true story of that supposedly fourth Gold DeLorean?
We all know of the two promo models and then the story is that the last one
off the line, utilized the panels that had been made up if needed, for those
first two, to cover a third one that was raffled off. I would question
whether anyone went to the expense of having special huge tanks made to dunk
those panels for gold plating just for one car. Cost would be pretty
prohibitive! But again maybe those original tanks were still available
somewhere, as the original idea was to make 100 gold DeLoreans!! Anyone
know the real true story...not just what "I THINK I read somewhere" etc?

Hi all. Joined the DMCNEWS group today. I have to say that I've
loved the Delorean as long as I can remember... I'm 19, and always
loved it every time I saw one on the road or at a show. It just so
happens that I'm looking for a new car, and I realised: I better look
at the DMC. They appear to be out of my price range at the
moment...but you never know. I could spend around $10k on it, so I
could get one that needs mild to moderate work.
About me: I'm a 19 yr old college student at the University of
Connecticut (UConn), and my hometown is Shelton, CT (about 30-45 min
from NY state).
Right now I can't have a car until junior (next) yr @ UConn (rules).
I've seen a few DMC's for sale in NY, but most are around $15-20k for
a considerable amount of work ($10k). I'm thinking that they might be
a little pricy, considering DMC in Houston will sell a refurb/restored
one for $35k...
If all else fails, I'll be waiting a few more years...but I WILL get
one...
