What do you mean "It exercises and maintains the battery as well"?
When you put a car into long term storage you really should remove the
battery from the car. I also think the fuel should be removed as well.
In too many cases I have seen where a winter storage becomes LONG
TERM, like many years, and the damage that is caused by the fuel and
the battery was very preventable. BTW a Carcoon uses a fan to blow air
in so what keeps the humidity out? I think the Carcoon is neat but it
takes some effort to put the car in and take it out and it won't
protect it from falling objects. A car cover may get more use only
because it is easier to put on and take off. Of course this isn't an
issue for long term storage.

Yes...it is hurricaine season... And we have had flooding in my pasture
land...but this spot is safe (and if it isnt safe at any point I will
move the car nearer to my house which is a hundreed or so feet away but
a lot higher.) so flooding is not an issue. Hurricaine is another
story....there has not been a direct hit to my section of SW Florida for
50+ years....they say it has to do with our geographic location on this
section of the west coast.
Anyways I have opted for the Carcoon which DMC-Houston offers.... Will
keep all the critters and everything out of the vehicle. Also our
carport will have side walls... Just no end walls (although in time that
will change...) Since the Carcoon circulates air with its motor and also
keeps the Delorean's battery optimized this appears to be a great
solution to my problem.
I will update everyone over time to how successful this route is/was.

In Florida you have to put up with some of the most humid conditions in
the US. Not only that but the possability of severe hurricanes and
flooding. I would get in touch with local car clubs and see what actions
the members take to deal with these conditions. BTW an ordinary car
cover is very little protection. Moisture comes up from the ground
(unless the car is on concrete) and can rust the frame. Small animals
can also find their way inside the car. An open carport offers little
protection from a hurricane and could probably get blown away if the
storm is bad enough, especially when you put sides on it. Isn't it

Size 5 is what they list on their website but Warren at DMC-Houston
stated size 4 would do (didn't realize DMC-Houston and Carcoon were one
and the same until I phoned them) and says they use that size there...
However he stated that if I feel the size is inappropriate that he would
pay shipping for the return and I pay the difference for the size 5.
Sounds like he is confident on the sizes since I was willing to buy size
5 and he suggested 4 :) Anyways Ill let you all know. And YES he said
something about the sizing being changed a bit which allows this.

Delorean is much longer than the vehicle itself because you must get one
made for a "full size" in order to accommodate the extra "width" of our
cars. The carcoon that is just long enough is way too narrow and the
sidewalls will be in contact with the car limiting its ability to
protect against objects impacting the car while stored. There may be a
newer size available that fits better since my purchase. .......

You are right, the battery should be removed and the car should be prepared
properly for long term storage. Actually the Carcoon is really just for
winter storage or occasional vehicle use as the car's battery is an
intergral part of the system. The power that drives the fans is derived from
an A/C Charger/Adapter that trickle charges the battery and maintains
positive pressure (via fans) within the carcoon system. In the event of a
A/C power failure, the fans switch to the car battery and prevent the
carcoon from deflating for 2 days or so...presumably long enough for the
power to be restored. As for falling objects, this is where the carcoon is
at its very best. The manufacturer claims you can toss a 5lb hammer at the
sucker without it reaching the surface of the car! The inflated enclosure
is suprisingly ridgid and can really take an impact, top and sides. I had an
aluminum ladder (not a little step ladder...it was one of those two-stage
outdoor jobs) fall from the garage wall that would have caused MAJOR damage
during last winter but it just bounced off without a scratch on the car. It
only takes about a minute to get the car into the thing and five minutes to
inflate. The material is very tough and the whole thing will remain inflated
even with a one foot long slice in the plastic. It also has a "drying" panel
near the rear of the carcoon. This is used to dry your vehicle after a rain
or carwash. You just drive in, flip on the fans, unzip the panel and a
flow-through of air completely dries your car in a few minutes...even the
underside. It couldn't be easier. I can't say enough good things about it
and I wouldn't even consider anything else. You won't even notice a
difference in your electric bill. ($2.00 per month) I purchased mine in
Milan, Italy but I am told that DMC Houston is the USA distributor. There is
another slightly cheaper unit that is very similar that can be purchased on
the web as "CarCapsule". Pretty much the same thing with just one fan
instead of two.

Well if that is the case then I will have to return it to DMC Houston as
the guy talked me out of the size 5 for a size 4 :) lol ..... He
promised it would fit and said return it at their expense lol...hope he
is correct! My will be under a carport with sides and inside the
carcoon... Car is NOT in long term storage situation as I will drive
sparingly but NOT a daily driver.

Thanks for the suggestions. I did finally figure it out and like John
says "it's easy" once you can see what is actually hanging up. It is a
small bump in the nylon carrier and you just have to move the guide over
a little with a screwdriver & it falls right in. Simple eh? And I did
manage to take a chunk out of my knuckle, isn't that why they make
knives out of SS????

I figured that with DMC Houston directly involved with the Carcoon they
would make some changes on the standard sizes to accommodate the Delorean's
wide girth. Anyway, keeping your car in this thing isn't the best
part...it's the look on your buddies faces when they see that the strange
guy with the strange car now has a strange giant bubble in his yard to keep
it in! They just sort of stare at you and shake their heads. I went from
being called "Marty Mcfly" to "Bubble-boy" in seconds...You think it was bad
before? You're going to give the whole neighborhood plenty of new joke

I have a curious problem with my DeLorean:
Let's say I take the car out for the day. During my trip it gets hot
enough that the cooling fans come on. At this point, if you turn the
car off and then try to turn it back on again, it won't start.
( You mean won't start or won't turn over like the power is gone. ( Were the
fans turned on by the otterstat or the AC compressor.)
I noticed that while the ignition is tripped,
( Does tripped mean on or is the key in the off position.)
everything is off in the car -- except the cooling fans. More often than not, the solution is to pull open the relay compartment and pull out the cooling fan relay; the car starts right up then
( was the AC compressor clutch engauged wnen this happened.)
Anyone else seen this? Shouldn't the fans also be off when you turn
the ignition so the starter can get enough power?
( not if the main relay didn't release or the fan relay is sticking. If so The Fan Fix Dual 2 x 2
will fix it. )
I've also noticed that on the other cars I've owned, the cooling fans
stay on when the car is off if it is still too hot. I notice this does
not happen on the DeLorean; the fans go off with the car. Is this
normal?
( This feature wasn't built into the Delorean. If they were to stay on any
length of time to do anything major good, the coolant would be in the
radiator only because the water pump is no longer turning to circulate the
coolant and the thermostat is closed. Also the newer cooling fans only draw
1/2 the current that the Delorean 28 amps do. It wouldn't take long to draw
a marginal battery down so the car wouldn't start.)
Also, my relays seem to get quite hot, so it looks like I'll be
tightening the sockets this weekend.
( Which relay's are getting hot.)

The other day I found a site where you could plug in the last 5
digits of a Delorean's vin and it would give you the complete
vin number. Now I can't find the site. A full 17 digit number is
needed to use Carfax. Can someone help. Doing the math takes too long
and when you have several cars in the want adds you'd consider buying,
it then becomes a problem.
