I agree with Vegas, though one part of this post i thought was kind of
naive.
I don't think it's fair or correct to glorify JZD's acquittal. All
things considered, he did attempt to commit unlawful acts. JZD
"knowingly and willlingly broke the law". He was lucky enough that the
manner in which he was caught was determined to be entrapment.
I would say that the case of JZD and this guy was similar in many ways.
The only real difference is that JZD got off through a legal loophole.

Take a minute and reread my post. Then point out the inflammatory remarks.
I wasn't trying to turn anybody off your products or workmanship. I stated
more than once about what I had "remembered". Also why are you so angry?
What would be my motive for misrepresenting your lot? I don't have anything
against you. I had actually told others who asked me about you, to take a
look for themselves and I said you were friendly. Also you didn't REFUSE to
sell to me. I simply wasn't interested. How was I shady? Was it because I
brought my mother and father up on a Sunday from New Jersey? Shady
criminals usually do that? I was there for over 2 hours and you showed me
the entire place. Why attack me when others have said in previous postings
of the red flags they sensed because of no pictures, that's all. I stated
you were not someone who would part his collection out. That's all. I don't
like Bricklins so I may have been harsh in that regard and for that I
apologize. Also you think I am someone who parts out cars?. Probably the
reason why I bought a damaged car from Maryland and dumped over $15,000.00
in to it. I am sure others on the list know me and saw my before and after
pictures. Even my old (used) parts I GAVE to another delorean owner because
he was so generous in helping me out and I hate throwing any delorean part
away. I certainly have not profited from any delorean.
And I have only owned 1 delorean. I also never attacked you nor claimed you
were not honest and true. People need to calm down and hey If I am wrong
then I will apologize.

Dave,
This happens fairly often. DeLoreans aren't all that common; and if
you're not near Michigan it's not really likely that you can come and
kick this car's tires to see if it's the one for you.
So Someone in the area that owns a DeLorean and is semi-knowledgable
about them goes and checks out the car for the buyer. This
accomplishs two things
1. Buyer can get a third party view of the car w/o flying a gazillion
miles to see it for themself
2. I get to check out another DeLorean (which is always fun)
I don't stand to gain anything.. it's just a favor because I live 15
miles from the seller, whereas potential buyer lives in Timbuktoo,
Calf.
It's not like I'm delivering the car or handling the money.

All I needed when I replaced my rear speakers was a hair dryer and a lot of
patience. I removed the door seals and used the hair dryer to heat the
portion of the trim pieces that wrap underneath the seals. Once it got warm
enough, it not only made the plastic pliable but also softened the glue
holding it down. I was able to peel the plastic back, while being careful
not to create any splits in it. After that, the rest of the process was
simple (undo the seat belt, remove panel, swap speakers, etc). As always,
your mileage may vary. This worked great for me, though.

Any D owners in DC, the Maryland DC Suburbs, Northern VA, and other close
areas that would like to get a local group going again, email me privately.
I'm giving this a shot, but it will be kept very informal. No dues,
websites, newsletters, etc. I am hoping we can get together from time to time to hang
out, eat, watch people drool over our cars, etc. I'm don't have time to
devote to this unless it's kept very simple and easy.
The Laurel Silver Diner is having their 1st annual classic car show and I
think this would be a great chance to start something. Lots of parking. If the
weather's good, I'll drive my D, but I'm not showing it. I'd like to get a
few cars over there and see how much attention we can take away from the show
cars. There are many restaurants there as well, so we could also meet for
dinner.
I have met 3 local owners so far, two of have told me they're very
interested. I'm waiting for a response from the third.
The show runs from 3-7. I have no involvement with the show at all. I ate
lunch at the Diner today and picked up a flyer and thought it would be fun to
attend.
I'm open for suggestions and thoughts.

Not to go on about this but from what I've read about JZD's case he only continued on with the deal because his Daughter's life had been directly threatened if he attempted to back out. When our government goes bad it isn't often we can clear the victims names and this is one time it had a happy ending.

I've been lurking on the list for a while, since I bought VIN# 17094 a bit
under a month ago. I had checked out a couple of D's within a reasonable
driving distance, and found this one to be the best one I could both see
before buying, and actually afford. The prior owner had quite a bit of work
done on the car, and I figured I'd have a pretty light load of repairs to
work out. Well, maybe that was a bit optimistic; my list of things to do is
up to 32 mostly-simple items (I'm sure there are bigger things that need
attention that I just haven't found yet, not having a really healthy D or
experience to tell). Being mostly a computer geek and not that hot at car
repair, it looks like I'll be spending some time at the mechanic's... once I
find one with some experience on DeLoreans.
Anyway, I have a few starter questions that hopefully someone can help me
with...
- I'd appreciate any recommendations for a good mechanic near Philadelphia.
- Where's the best place to snag replacement relays and circuit breakers?
The relays in my D look like they could be original, but I really think the
relay update kits I see on delorean.com or specialtauto are overpriced. I
found non-bosch replacements for the most numerous part, but $17 at Pep Boys
seemd a bit high too.
- I found a severly burned wire (over 1" of blackened insulation, wire
burned through) near the relays; hopefully one of you can save me a bunch of
disassembly tracking down where this goes... Check out

coming from the door lock breaker and going over the door lock module is the
one that fried. It also cooked the wire and connector on top of the fan
speed breaker, and melted some of the fuse box cover. Man it would be nice
if there was a little more room to work in there.
Well, I've rambled on enough. Thanks in advance for any help you may be
able to offer.

You're absoluely right, JZD did indeed know that what he was doing was
wrong, not to mention illegal. HOWEVER, keeping his company afloat was
not the main reason on his mind when he agreed to enter that hotel
room. Nor was it a simple "loophole" that earned him his freedom.
John DeLorean was threatened with the lives of his own children, and
his then wife when he attempted to back out of the situation. And not
once, but twice did this occur. Durring the first meeting, and later
on after he was promised a legit investment, and the topic then again
turned to using DMC to launder drug money. In addition, this was
documented well before the arrest when DeLorean sought out advice from
his lawyer on how to get rid of these people that he wanted nothing to
do with. The flaws in the Govt's sting operation that were proven by
DeLorean's defense council were not mere "loopholes" as you put it,
but were all peices of evidence that reinforced their case, and earned
the man his deserved freedom.
I am not "naive" as you put it, and I do not like being called that.
It is far more naive to dismiss legal cases such as this, and others
simply based upon nothing more than one's own personal dislikes on a
subject, or about a particular person.
