I agree that a metal line is also usable but if you decide to go that
route then at least use a short piece of hose onto the slave cylinder
to allow for any movement of the motor. If you don't then the flexing
of the solid metal line will eventually cause it to crack.

I think this is a worthwhile mod too. My only improvement would be to
go UP with it. I like to bleed with pressure and your way could trap
an air bubble at the point where you bend the "U" in the pipe to point
it downward. By going up any air would naturally move upward and out.
A bleeder screw could be modified so you wouldn't have to change the
slave cylinder or maybe just a short piece of hose with the correct ends.

Seller would probably sell direct for $95. eBay now removes "ask

Hello List,
Yep, that's the first question I get most of the time from people when
I'm out with my DMC. (The second question is usually "How much is it
worth?") It's either "Is that a Bricklin?" or "Was it built in Nova
Scotia?". Now, I have nothing against Bricklins and would even like
to have one someday, (Ford 351 ci V-8 in a gull-wing car - Awesome!),
but I find it really strange that I get asked that question so many
times. After all, The Delorean was the star (after Michael J. Fox) in
one of the most well-known movies of all time. How many people do you
know who have NOT seen Back To The Future? Young or old, most people
have seen the movie. Not only that, with all the media frenzy during
the demise of DMC and John Z's so-called "drug-scandal" back then, how
can anyone not know what a Delorean is? In all three of the BTTF
movies, the time-machine is referred to as a Delorean several times,
not a Bricklin. To be honest, it really doesn't bother me and I'm
more than happy to answer people's questions about my car, let them
check it out, sit in it, etc., but I'm just curious as to why I get
asked that so often. Do any of you have the same thing happen, or am
I the only one?
P.S. I'd love to borrow someone's Bricklin for a day, just to see if
people say "Wow! Is that a Delorean?". lol!

A Day of Cars and Culture
This Saturday, July 19, the DeLorean Club of Ohio invites you to spend a
day exploring Cleveland's University Circle.
The DCO will meet at the Crawford Auto-Aviation Museum between 10:00 AM
and 11:00 AM. We'll tour the car museum, as well as the Western Reserve
Historical Society Museum, which features a tour of the Hay Mansion.
Then we will visit the brand new Botanical Gardens, see a planetarium
show at the Cleveland Museum of Natural History, and/or tour the
Cleveland Museum of Art.
For any DeLorean enthusiast, the Crawford's current display is
FANTASTIC! The VIN 500 DeLorean is exhibited beside the stainless 1936
Ford, the Stainless Thunderbird, and the Stainless Lincoln Continental.
The VIN 500 DeLorean's door is open now, showing some surprises. See if
you can pick out the features that make it a more unique DeLorean than
anyone had imagined. A few cars away from it you'll see a gullwing
Mercedes. All four stainless cars have never been displayed together
like this before, and the Crawford is the only place you can see it.
Be sure to eat a hearty breakfast and bring some snacks along, because
we won't stop until dinner. We'll wind up the day with a barbecue at
Patti and Mike Substelny's place around 5:30.

Don't worry about it... the majority of the people in this country are totally clueless. At a local car show, I had one woman come up to the car, and actually TOUCH the hood, and say "geeze - they really scratched up the PAINT!".

Don't bother trying to figure people out, 'cause you'll go just as
crazy as they are. I've only had my car mistaken for a Bricklin once.
And once I corrected the guy as to what my car was, he actually got
quite embarassed from his mistake. Otherwise, I've never had that
happen. However, if you want a bit of insight into this, you might
want to take a look around at where you live. I would imagine that in
the Northern part of the US, the Bricklin may have a higher
following, due to the closer proximity of Canada (?). I know that for
a while there, I kept getting people Utah comming up to me, and
stating that they thought the car was built up in Logan. So perhaps
your location has somehow played a roll...
A bigger mystery to me is why some people see my car, and confuse it
with Buddha's belly. "Oh, gee look! It's made out of stainless steel!
Let me just rub the hell out of it with my greasy hands!" >:( Or
worse, when they rap their knuckles on it. I know a car with
stainless steel is quite a novelty (after all, I have one!), but some
people just become like little kids around it. I swear, if I ever get
old, I'm gonna get one of those Biff Tannen canes from BTTF 2, just
to whack people on the head with the next time they mistake my car
for a door!
Fortunetly though, people like that are in the minority. Most are
actually quite respectful, and will even ask permission before
peering inside. So I am quite thankful for that. But why people say
the things they say, or do the things they do (wait, isn't that a
song? :p), who knows. It certainly is interesting though to hear the
broad spectrum of comments though that people get.

Regarding the question
"How many people do you know who have not seen BTTF 1?" In regard to
the first movie the market penetration, including the TV showings is
over 80%.
However, I had a meeting with Universal 4 years ago about making BTTF 4.
The main reason they were not funding a new movie was because only
about 20% of the movie going population saw the whole series.
This would make the 4th sequal unprofitable, because so few people would
actually see another BTTF movie.
I was surprised but certainly could understand the economics.

I find this discussion fascinating since in 21 years
of DeLorean ownership (and with my car being on the
road for 10,000+ miles per year, only once have I been
asked if the car was a Bricklin!
Considering that this is a 20+ year old car that was
really only in production for approximately 19 months,
I contend that the car is known on sight by more
people than just about any other car except for the VW
Beetle, and this is due to BTTF. When I travel I
notice that even 9 year olds who are way too young for
BTTF immediately respond, "WOW - a DeLorean".

I had Winged1 in a car show inside an upscale shopping mall in
Bellevue, Washington, along with 10 other DeLoreans from PNDC. A
gentleman (I'll give him the benefit of the doubt) walked up, remarked
"Wow, stainless steel, huh?", and proceeded to rap his knuckles on the
left front fender. His assumption was that it was built like a bank
vault door. He then asked "So, how much do these body panels cost,
anyway?" I said that the fender he was beating on was .012" thick,
and cost nearly $4,000 new (okay, maybe a slight exaggeration!). He
very quickly put his hands in his pockets, muttered some lame apology,
and shuffled off. That seems to be the main assumption that people
have about the stainless steel - that it's indestructible. As far as
the fingerprints go, I've given up trying to understand why people can
walk by a refrigerator without giving it a second thought, but they
MUST touch a car made from the same stuff.

Well, from MY point of view......I have owned my D going on seven years. In
that space of time I have NEVER once had anyone so much as MENTION a
Bricklin...a few times during discussions they obviously had never even

First of all I very rarely speed and I in no way endorse it but my DeLorean isn't my daily driver so I guess I got a little caught-up in the extremely high fun-coefficient of the car. It was very early just before rush hour so the traffic was light. Nice and cool out so no AC, just open windows. Not really sure how fast I was going. Somewhere between 85 and the top speed of the car. I saw him in the rear view way back there so I slowed down without pressing the brakes. Instantly he was on my bumper then the lights went on so I pulled over.
He walked up to the car and barked "YOU KNOW I DON"T HAVE TO ASK YOU WHY I PULLED YOU OVER DO YOU"!!??. I don't even know how I answered that. Something like "Yes officer I'm so stupid. I normally don't drive like that. I have no excuse. I'm not even in a hurry. Stupid stupid stupid". "DO YOU EVER LOOK IN YOUR REAR VIEW MIRROR"!!!?? I think he had trouble catching up to me. "GIVE ME YOUR LICENSE, REGISTRATION AND PROOF OF INSURANCE!" he barked again. I handed all three to him through the window. He was pissed. "YOU KNOW I CLOCKED YOU WELL OVER 85 THAT MEANS I CAN TAKE YOUR CAR AWAY RIGHT NOW AND YOU CAN LOOSE YOUR LICENSE". Again I don't know how I responded to that. All I can think of was - yikes not my car. Then he said "DO I HAVE TO TALK TO YOU THROUGH THIS LITTLE HOLE"? I said "No sir I can open this". I meant the door but I think he thought I meant the rest of the glass window. So he said "WELL THEN OPEN IT". I pulled the door handle and up popped the door. The door lifters were all replaced by Rob Grady so they open smoothly and completely with that phissst sound. He stepped back and said "WOW". His attitude completely changed! He then said - like an old friend "Nice car. When did you pick this up?" I said "Last February". "Must've been expensive". "No" I said, "It's a 1982 so I got it for about the price of a new Neon". He actually laughed! He then asked the usual questions like where you going, where do you work. Bla bla bla. He said I seemed like a good guy slow down and handed my paperwork back to me!
I truly think the car saved my butt! I'll never speed again. ;-)

David is right, Flexing will cause a crack in no time. You should use flexable hose at both ends. Also, any hold down clamps for the metal line should use rubber bushings or grommets to prevent chafing the metal at that point. Good Luck.

I find that pretty strange, myself.
I have never had anyone exclaim anything other than "Wow, a DeLorean!" or
"Hey, the Back to the Future car!" It seems whenever I mention Bricklins or
anything, they haven't really heard of it. Around here, when people know about it
being a DeLorean, they sometimes know what a Bricklin is.

I took everything apart, this hole was at the bottom of the bar as
