A local owner's car wasn't running good so he also tried fuel injector cleaner. The car is now at P.J. Grady's because it won't run. I agree that unless the car has been used regularly or at least had cleaner used previuosly you should avoid it as a quick fix. Modern fuel will slowly remove the deposits if the car is used regularly. As for the fuel injectors plugging up they were probably already in need of cleaning or replacement which is why there is the temptation to "fix" a rough running motor with "Magic in a Bottle". On the cars I have worked on even though the injectors sprayed like cr-p, after I cleaned them they worked fine. IMHO you shouldn't have to replace the fuel injectors, just clean them and replace the rubber seals which become hard and shrink causing air leaks. Replace any missing or broken retaining clips and use new copper gaskets. It isn't just the spring that causes the problem, I think most of the trouble is caused by the dirt and deposits that build up on the seat inside preventing the injector from spraying right and closing completely. While you have the injectors out always check the #'s on them, someone may have replaced 1 or more with the wrong one! They may look alike on the outside but can work very differently! Try any 6 cylinder engine. For the specs on the exhaust look up the #'s in the Workshop Manual. If you do make sure that you measure at the ports AHEAD of the catalytic converter as per the setup in the Manual. BTW do you mean exhaust gas analyzer instead of "scope". We had a wonderful weekend in Canada!!!! It was so good to meet up with many friendly and familiar faces again, and make new friends too. The water under the Ambassador Bridge at the border (from Detroit) is a beautiful blue... unlike our water down the "muddy" Mississippi River here in the St. Louis area. We can't wait to see Lake Heron in 2005! Everything went smoothly, including keeping all of the cars together through traffic and lights. It's amazing that no one got lost or left behind, and was nice when some of us were separated for a short time, we knew the rest of the caravan would be waiting up ahead. The variety of appetizers at G.T.'s grill on the beach was a great touch and it worked so well for the group. If you didn't hear about a few of us that sneaked out to the casino Saturday night, Albert Kirk (Ohio) was the big winner, and he was kind enough to pay for breakfast for all on Sunday. (Nice surprise, BIG AL)!!!! Thanks again, >From The Wester Family - Ron, Cheryl, Erica & Jaime St. Peters, MO ________________________________________________________________________ ________________________________________________________________________ Message: 4 Date: Wed, 18 Jun 2003 07:59:26 -0700 (PDT) From: Pete Berveiler <zamphyr2000@xxxxxxxxx> Subject: RE: Anybody have the turbos? where? how much are they? Has anyone contacted DMCH about their proposed Stage II and Stage III upgrades to see when they will be available recently? I know the Stage I with crate-engine swap is $6500 and you get 197HP gauranteed. The we-do-it-to-your-motor cost was about $4995 I believe. I THINK i remember Stage II as a intake manifold and throttle body swap to let it breathe in naturally better... and Stage III was SUPPOSED to be a new set of 4v heads... I may be mistaken tho.. anyone have any info? Hello, I just wanted to say thank you to everyone that gave us advice on the AC. All it needed was a charge. Also it seems with use the doors seem to stay up better. We are still looking forward to a get together with everyone and see if the doors still need a little adjustment. ________________________________________________________________________ ________________________________________________________________________ Message: 6 Date: Wed, 18 Jun 2003 10:45:23 -0700 (PDT) From: jordan rubin <nuttenschleuder@xxxxxxxxx> Subject: Re: Re: Fuel injector cleaners in gas tank ----Noooooo don't do it! Thanx for the warning ill put that on hold. I hear about this pattern tester for the injectors, does bosch or volvo have one of these. If one of my injectors turns out to be no good, do i goto volvo new ones. Im not having any such problems as of now but im slowly working through the engine and will hit it sooner or later. thanx jordan 11613 ________________________________________________________________________ ________________________________________________________________________ Message: 7 Date: Wed, 18 Jun 2003 15:49:41 -0400 From: "Rustproof" <Rustproof@xxxxxxxxxxx> Subject: SpecialTAuto I have made a few purchases from John Hervey (SpecialTAuto.com)over the last few months and I have to say that he's running a class act over there. Whether it's a freebee part to go along with your order or perhaps some advice getting something fixed, he always goes the extra mile. I'm not one for plugging anyone's business but if you need something for your D, you really should give him a try. His prices are right and delivers in a flash! The car had been sitting for about a year but started right up. Fresh oil new plugs etc. After running for a few minutes it started blowing white smoke out both pipes. At first I thought maybe it was burning up some old gas(it did have stablizer in it) but it kept getting worse, especially if I stepped on the gas. The car never got hot but did start to heat up. that's when I shut it off. There is no water in the oil and it seemed to run ok. The only smoke prior to the turbo rebuild was from the oil leak in the turbos, that is gone now. There doesn't seem to be any smell to the smoke. Is this a head gasket leak if so how do I know before going through all that work.
