Most likely not going to help, but I'll toss it out there anyway. I've
had my tach spike before, despite the fact that the actual RPMs were not

Well our club secretary (who will probably pipe up at this point anyway)
took HIS rare right-hander from 4 miles to 600+ on its trip to Eurofest
on '01. That car now belongs to its new owner in Ireland.
I have the pride of saying I put 3/4 of the miles on my car - and I've
only owned it 18 months! It now has 8500 on the clock, and although sun
damaged and noisy, is mechanically lovely.

There is no way to tell what your problem might be with out detail
checks but it does sound like the vacuum advance is not working
correctly. Since you were replacing vacuum hoses I would double
check the routing and be absolutely sure it is right.
Another thing, I have mentioned it several times and I suspect
people are leery of Marvel Mystery Oil for the fuel system. However,
the chemical in it is an excellent solvent when warm. The K-Jetronic
fuel system is a constant circulating system and that stuff will
clean a fuel system when nothing else will. It may take a tank or
two of fuel but if you haven't tried it you're missing the cheapest
tune-up in a can you can get.

I guess I have to put my 2 cents in here
All of my D's have less than 7000 miles and the latest addition has 168 miles
so while not under 100 it is the next best thing to being there.
I do drive my car to special events and shows and it gets trailered a lot.
I never get used to driving it so when I do its really cool to get in it and
go.
In the 7 years I have had the one I put on about 4,000 miles and every one of
them was great. I have never broken down or been stranded. This is my show
car and many of you have seen it.
We even took it out to the fall foliage tour a few years back in NY.
It probably has another 15,000 miles being towed. And the looks and camera
shots from other cars on the road make it an interesting car to have on a
trailer.
Since its not out every day people even in my neighborhood don't get used to
seeing it so when its out its a social gathering waiting to happen.
I am looking for that daily driver but it seems every time I want to buy one
I end up with a low mileage car.
I think I qualify as a person who really enjoys his DeLorean but each of us
enjoys it in a different way.
I need a fixer upper DeLorean. ( LOW MILEAGE of course LOL)

A year ago I was at the Foreign Car/Kit Car National Show and Swap Meet in
Carlisle, PA and was getting ready to leave when a man asked me if I had
bought my car from Chubby Checker. He said that he knew Chubby and knew
that he had a DeLorean. I had heard that he lives down near Philadelphia.
I offered to give him information on joining the DeLorean Mid Atlantic Club
to give to him but he said that he didn't think that Chubby would be
interested. To Chubby it was just another car.

Not for nothing but, if there was a Delorean that truly kicked ass
and was done so tastefully wouldnt it attract more favorable
responses from those in the "know" i was in awe with the Gale Banks
twin turbo modified car from way back when and 502 is a killer
(presently boasting an $85,000 price tag...,im not saying my
modifying the car will increase its value i know it wont but this is
the car i dreamt of owning i couldve bought a vette or a
porsche....but who wants to do that. my friends father tried to
dissuade me from the purchase stating "yeah the car was supposed to
be all this and all that but it wasnt" well i think it was and it
is, but why cant it be more...its design is timeless and its meant to
last forever so why cant its performance be equally as everlasting??

My Gauge was stuck too. Turned out a diode was fried on the RPM Gauge's Circuit board. Tried to find a replacement board but had no luck with that... Purchased a new Gauge from DMC Houston. This solved my problem.

Hi guys, first off i want to thank everyone fory their input. the
car is a 9.5 out of 10...with the least vamount of effort it is
concourse worthy. its a 5speed, is it spirited? yes...is it the
adrenaline rush that it looks like? not from an acceleration/power
point of view. what i meant when i said ive seen 450 hp applications
is that i tracked down some cars on the web with prv engines that
were really great performers for examble alpines, A610
Renaults..etc..so it is possible.. the reason i wanted this low
mileage car is that i wanted as close to new a car i could
afford...in 81 i was 9 so obviously that wasnt happening then also i
didnt want a daily driver because it would still set me back
approx..12-15 grand.......i bought this car for 25,000 personally i
thought it was a steal considering the $4200 was laid out by the
previous owner....i have actual receipts from Delorean One atesting
to the service....i am all for keeping mileage low, but hey its my
car and i wont ever get rid of it. will i put 30000 miles onb it? no
never but i will drive it.........lastly, i want substantial more
response from the car because because its a dream car...at least to
me and i feel it should perform like one. if i can boost its
performance while maintaining as close to stock appearance even
better i was aware of the cars numbers and performance prior tho its
purchase but went through with it anyway because i love the total
package but if i can realistically improve its short commings ...i
feel i owe it that much.........didnt mean to open a can of worms im
not a Delorean purist but i know the car isnt what it was intended to
be....regardless of what was said when the company was in bussiness (
#502 comes to mind here)...........looking forward to the replies

By the way - do not throw away old or defective rpm relays.
They are - like all the electronic parts in the DeLorean - easy to repair.
I even guess they are much faster repaired than ordering a new one !

Is a big loop -- if not safety concern, what does it matter if pump
runs engine off? In theory injectors should be closed (air sensor
plate / fuel distributor piston closed). Not long ago helped a fellow
with an Audi (Bosch Jetronic of some ilk) that ran pump whenever car
was energized.
Obviously RPM relay signal not enough fast enough to pressurize the
system when starting, otherwise we all wouldn't have to replace our
fuel accumulators.

You cannot properly clean clean fuel injectors by just cleaning off
the outside. Until you can get them done right then there is no way
you will know what else is wrong until you are working with some
known good parts. Also you should probably replace the rubber seals,
on most cars they get old and hard and no longer fit tight.

Quick opinion on what the deLorean was meant to. I think it's a
little between you opinion and what DMC might have said way back
when.
The DeLorean SHOULD have been faster... they would have made it so
if they had stayed in biz. But it isn't. Just like a modern "normal"
sports car would toast an older Porsche... The DeLorean is the same
speed as normal cars today (but won't be soon... lookin at these 250
horse Honda Accords they're putting out... 'normal' is getting
faster and faster)... but in 81 it was at least sort of fast.
Some people want speed... some (like me) are in it JUST for the
inherent GREATNESS that is the car.. ..stock. But NEVER EVER was the
DeLorean MEANT to have 450 horsepower. It wasn't a lamborghini... it
was a sporty cadilac (IE Luxury Sports car). A Lamborghini is not
luxurious (ever sit in one?) the DeLorean is (was anyway).
But by that token... I'd love to take your DeLorean for a spin once
it's 450 horsepower.
Tempests weren't MEANT to fast until DeLorean...
But I tend to agree that if it is practically concours already it
should stay that way... find another car to hack up. Less expensive
too... why invest 25k in a car you're going to replace half of.
I'd like 250 HP.

In the long run, I think the modified Deloreans may be worth more than
the stock ones.
There will always be purists who want a totally stock car. However,
there is an equally large population that wants a performance car.
Just look at the prices of older muscle cars. The non stock ones with
big block engines command much higher prices, than numbers matching
small block low horse power cars.
The turbo deloreans that copy the planned factory set up may be the most
desirable. However, the upgraded engine cars, depending upon how well
they are done, might become even more desirable because of off the line
performance..
Just compare the value of V8 Fieros to 4 and 6 cylinder Fieros. Even
though GM never offered a V8, guess which ones are worth the most?
The main difference with a Delorean is that the illusion that it is a
high performance vehicle is immortalized in the Back to the Future
movies. For example,
Just give a GT350 paint job to a 65 Fastback mustang (with a 6 cylinder)
and people think it is a hot rod. It is the known illusion of the high
performance decor.
For other hot rodders, performance was tried directly to the big
displacement engine with the corresponding exterior decor packages.
What we need is more consistency and documentation of power upgrades and
the recognition that the Delorean can be a performance car. This is the
gap that our magazines need to fill.

David, Susan & Jason Teitelbaum. We had a wonderful time! Dinner and
visit at the Teitelbaum home on Friday night was great. On Sunday, a
lovely drive from Park Ridge Marriott through quaint little bayfront
(Hudson)towns to Palisades Mall where everyone got to chat and

Andy, There is a lot of things that can make it run bad during warm up as
you know. But after it warms up trying adjusting the 02 setting and see how
it does. Even though the Lambda system is running on manual, the control
plunger in the distributor may not be rising high enough and starving the
injectors.
Re check the placement of the wires and the timing. One wire may not be
plugged in all the way.

Yesterday I did a full tune-up, I used stock delorean components
except for the plugs which are platinum +4. I cleaned many parts with
carb cleaner, replaced some old vacuum hoses, replaced ALL gaskets
and O-rings that have to do with the intake manifold, did valve
adjustments for all valves and cleaned the fuel injectors.
Car fired right up, but still idled poorly, it smoothed out some as
it warmed up. I took it for a quick 12 mile spin on the highway. The
car seemed to have a little trouble going up hill, I had to give it
more gas than usual to keep the speed up.

Mine was doing this a couple of years ago. I cleaned the ground connection
out on the frame behind the left front wheel and the problem was solved. I
was surprised at the time that the tach would be the first thing to have
problems when so many things connect to that ground connection.
