Several years ago, PNDC participated in the Wenatchee, Washington
"Apple Blossom Festival Parade". It was a long parade with very good
crowd turnout. The interesting thing was that there were policemen at
every corner for traffic diversion duty. Each officer seemed to have
a different opinion on whether it was proper and legal to operate the
DeLorean (in a parade, mind you!) with the doors open. On one block,
the cop would say "Raise the doors up!", and the very next block we
would be told to "close the doors, because this sets a bad example for
the kids". The cars looked like birds flapping their wings in slow
motion.

I still have the sales bulletin for those. Consolidated International, the
same folks involved with both the Bricklin and the DeLorean liquidation was
selling 2.7 R30 engines for $1295. They also had the automatic transaxle set
up for $495. I can't remember the exact dates but the time frame was early
'80's. The photos in the flyer don't show the oil pan area very well so it's
hard to tell if the engines were very compatible with the DeLorean. They do
have an accessory drive pully that appears to be bolted directly to the
camshaft at the rear of one side of the engine. In any event they'd be long
gone by now.

Subject: Lockzilla Remote Series 2
I just got my new "Series 2" Lockzilla Remote Door Lock Control unit.
This thing is SO great! The new updated Series 2 unit has ports for
the upcoming plug in door launch, sound effect module, and trunk pop
option. The newest feature on the Series 2 unit is the side marker
lights for lock/unlock now flash for confirmation as well as having a
"find car" feature that flashes them for 1 minute.
The installation was easy, fast and totally clear. A true "plug-in and
go". I can't tell you the thrill of seeing your car respond to a remote
lock fob. Having had to lock and unlock the car with a key for all
these years made today one of the best DeLorean moments I have ever had.
It was just me, my car and a small black key fob....no crowds, no car
show, no cameras or questions from gawkers. Even though all my other
cars have remote keyless entry, this was one of those great "WOW"
moments. The simplicity of putting in a small unit and then, all of a
sudden, having your cars abilities expand like this is just hard to
describe. I didn't think I could love owning a DeLorean more...and
then today happened.
Thanks to Bob for his dedication in creating these products. Looking
forward to the Launchers!!

I checked mine out; it sure is hard to tell if it is sealed off or not. I
doesn't appear to be sealed very well. Can water come in this hole, too?
Would expanding foam be a goog filler for this to stop air and water coming
in?
Also, what is the hole on the other side; I have a clear tube coming in and
some wires, but it it fairly open to the cavity too. Is that one a good
candidate for air and water problems? spray foam ok here?

Subject: Gasoline Smell
For the last month, the interior of my D has reeked of gasoline, a
smell which goes away soon after I start driving. I've spent a few
hours looking for the leak--replacing the sender seal, checking all
the hose clamps, etc.
It turns out to be a leaky fuel return line. It's the front metal
line, the one that runs forward from the accumulator to the hose that
attaches to the fuel pump. It's leaking right where the metal line
turns into a hexagonal fitting, right before it connects to the hose.
It might be leaking towards the other end, too--I can't tell.
How do I go about replacing this metal line? Is this something an
amateur mechanic can do, without taking the entire car apart?
Any help is greatly appreciated. Thank you.

If you see beads of coolant it means the hose is leaking. Worse is
that there is probably corrosion and deposits of the additive trying
to seal the leaks. The best thing to do is to remove every hose
(especially if you don't know how long they have been on the car)
clean the metal pipe with a wire brush, and replace the hose AND the
clamp. Just trying to tighten the clamp won't always stop the leak but
usually does strip out the clamp so now it doesn't tighten anymore.
Also the hoses get hard and even putting a new clamp on an old hose
won't do it. The time to retighten clamps is after the first time the
car really gets warmed up, you can get a half turn or so and after
that it won't help anymore. This is the reason for the silicone hoses
behind the water pump. Once you install them you can't ever get near
them to retighten them. They are too expensive to use all over the car
but all of the others you can reach and retighten. ALL of the hoses
should be replaced at the same time, unfortunatly on many cars only
the ones that could be reached easily are ever changed. The
anti-freeze should also be checked annually for PH to keep corrosion
to a minimum and every 2 years it should be changed. Only use a
premium, branded anti-freeze and then only use a 50/50 mixture of it
and clean, soft water. Finally the system should be pressure tested to
15 psi when hot. The pressure should not drop and there should be no
droplets at any fittings or clamps. Be careful when working on the
radiator, it is very easy to break off the plastic fittings where the
hoses attach, especialy the little one on the top right side. Don't
forget the heater hoses in the front by the right front wheel and on
top of the motor in front at the heater valve. Any leak ANYWHERE in
the system will cause a loss of coolant!!!!!!

The Xbox game i believe you are referring to is Wreckless: The Yakuza
Mission, which features a DeLorean, or very close look alike... The game is
out for PS2 and Xbox, i am not positive if it is out for GameCube, The
DeLorean also has an apperance in Grand Theft Auto: Vice City but it is named
the DeLuxo and has corvette taill lights with a high spoiler

Check the steering column shaft where it goes through the bulkhead.
The bushing on mine is missing so air comes in through the hole. Hope
this helps

I've got the same issue. I started looking into the problem but got side
tracked when I noticed my condensate drip tube was clogged and fixed that.
Got rid of that nasty musty smell!
Forgot all about the cold air problem I was checking out in the first place.
Hopefully someone does have an answer. It wasn't obvious to me.

There was a ad running in the back of several car magazines in the
late 80's up through the mid 90's that advertised surplus 2.7L PRV
engines for sale. I will have to check through a few old magazines
this weekend, but I'm sure I can find at least one example.
Once I locate one or more of the ads, I will scan the ad(s) and put
copies of them in the DML Photo vault and post another message.
Sorry, I only keep recent car magazines at work (desk is too small).

I know this has likely appeared on the list before, but I am probably going to be attempting to change my own spark plugs. While I know which kind of plugs to get, can someone let me know what kind of tools I will need to get to the plugs, take them out, and then re-install the new ones properly? From what I understand you want to apply only a certain torque on them to install spark plugs.
Also, while I'm in there I'm also going to replace my thermo-time switch. What is the difficulty level on replacing this part?

specializes in electronic fuel injection conversions.Has anyone
asked them to work on the Delorean ? If they can turn a drag race
blown big block into a streetable machine, it wouln t be hard for

Many years ago I replaced all my cooling hoses and hose clamps on VIN#
3507 (now at 121,000+ miles). To this day each hose shows no sign of any
swelling or leaking, and in fact still looks new. I used Gates 'Green
Stripe' #24220, 1-1/4 inch, 31.8mm hose that I got through an industrial
hose supplier that I found in the phone book. It is an EPDM rubber hose
reinforced with a high strength spiral wound polyester yarn braid. I
phoned Gates (303-744-1911) and discovered that the Green Stripe is a
high end automotive hose rated to 100 psi (much higher than we need)
used more for trucks and heavy duty equipment. The price at the time I
got it was about $6 a foot, but now is closer to $10. Even though the
cost is high I don't think I'll ever have to replace this stuff. As I
mentioned earlier this hose does not swell. Most cooling hose (DMC or
any other) that I have seen will swell with use and this has to shorten
the life and promote leaking. I also learned that Gates makes the Gold
Stripe hose for NAPA, which may be a better choice over OEM and easy to
get (I don't know how it compares to the Green Stripe). I also upgraded
all the hose clamps to a much wider stainless clamp. Of course the two
front hoses and the water pump hoses are special sizes, but upgrades are
available from various DMC parts suppliers.
The only drawback to this Green Stripe hose is that it does not bend
well, so works best in straight sections. One 90 degree hose behind the
coolant bottle I replaced with two short sections of the Green Stripe
and a bent 1-1/4 inch OD Stainless tube that I had made at a muffler
shop, and I had to slightly bend one of the existing aluminum cooling
tubes in another location. I have never had to re-tighten any of the
hose clamps like I used to with the OEM hoses.

Someone on this list brought this up a while ago. If I remember
correctly the game "Grand Theft Auto III Vice City" has a Delorean in
it, but the game calls it a "Deluxo". Also, Activision came out with
a game for the PC called "Interstate '82" a few years ago, and it has
a Delorean in it as well. Hope this helps.
