Subject: Old Convention Pictures
I found some old convention pictures and was wondering, The heavily
modified Red car, is it only the outer facing side of the rims that are
painted or does the paint go all over the rims? Dumb question, I know.
Also there was one car with something that looked like the black out kits
on the headlights, but it was smooth and not nearly as dark, almost like
newer cars, it made the low and high beams look like one unit. Does any
one know what these are. (also thank you to every one who sent pictures
of the grey side stripe, I went a head and got it for my car)

Subject: Historic Blunders
I wonder if anyone caught the History Channel a week ago when they aired a program called "History's Greatest Blunders".
This was about an hour long program regarding the "Spruce Goose" airplane that Howard Hughes built and the DeLorean car. It was about 90 percent on the DeLorean. A lot of interesting old videos mainly......from beginning to end with scenes taken in Ireland of the factory and test track...people involved...JZD and then wife and of course the car itself......it was pretty dismal to me, but I guess you would say it was pretty factual.
It was taped by a friend and I have no facilities for making copy 's, however I have found these shows are repeated several times so maybe it will be on again. FWIW Dept.

Subject: Rally in Cleveland, Saturday 5-6-00
This Saturday the DCO will have a sort of "anti-rally" in Cleveland. It
will be a Dry Run of the Driving Tour in June. In the Dry Run we will
test the directions and look for tricky spots. We have tried to make
the directions foolproof, but the tour involves 90 minutes of city,
park, neighborhood, and highway driving in three 30 minute legs, so
there may still be some bugs in it.
We need people to find those bugs. We DARE you to get lost following
our detailed directions!
So far a handfull of Ohio DeLorean owners have volunteered, but the more
cars we have the better it will simulate the real thing in June. The
less you know about the streets of Cleveland the better.
Anyone is welcome to participate, whether you bring a DeLorean or not.
All you need is a car with a cassette player and someone to ride as
navigator (although a really brave person might try it solo). You also
need to be able to get to downtown Cleveland by noon next Saturday. We
will have four chances to socialize along the way, including dinner at a
floating restaurant.
Participation is free, but I will only make enough copies of the map and
cassette tape for people who have contacted me (Mike Substelny) ahead of
time. Send me an email by noon Friday and I will let you know what to
do.
BTW next week's Dry Run was mentioned in yesterday's Cleveland Plain
Dealer "Checkpoint" (car club news column), so we may get volunteers
from other car clubs. The Plain Dealer has also said that they will
mention the June event when the date gets closer.
By June, the Driving Tour directions should be perfect.

Subject: Inertia switch / fuse relationship?
Ever since I acquired my DeLorean it has not had an inertia switch. A
previous owner removed and bypassed it (all 81 and most 82 inertia
switches were recalled) and I never bothered to replace it. Until now.
Last week I wanted to crank my engine without starting it, so I removed
the bypass. This worked nicely, and I congratulated myself on
cleverness. Unfortunately, the first time I put the bypass back I did
it incorrectly. I am concerned that I may have caused a short that blew
a fuse (or damaged another component). My fuel pump is no longer
getting power (it does work when jumpered).
I have ordered a new inertia switch. Until it comes, I wanted to pose
this question to the list: is it possible for a clutzy inertia switch
bypass cause this type of short?
The wiring diagram shows that one of the inertia switch leads goes to
ground, so a short may be possible. In my case all the fuses seem to
have survived, so now I am looking into the possibility that I damaged a
relay.
Moral of the story: screwing around with one part in an electrical
system affects others. Take seriously any work on your electrical
system, even simple stuff.

year sometime.

I seem to remember it was split about half and half, but don't remember
for sure.
I do remember that the show contained a lot of factual errors, none of
which I remember, but which are probably in the archive somewhere. It
did, however, contain a lot of pictures and footage that I had not
otherwise seen.

I didn't see the show, but it was a good thing that it aired! When I
went to the DMV to register my car, it turned out that Nevada doesn't
have the DeLorean in their new system. In order to figure out the
current value of the car, they needed to know the origional MSRP. In
order to get the MSRP, they wanted the original window sticker from
off of my car! (no NADA books, they only had Kelly Blue) While we
were talking, the woman's supervisor walked by, and heard our
conversation. As fate would have it, the gentleman had just finished
watching the History Channel show, and was able to vouch for the MSRP
@ $25,000. Thankfully because of the supervisor, I was able to avoid
a huge paperwork mess! In the end the best news of all was my
registration fees: $40.00 a year!
In all seriousness though, if anyone has an extra copy of the
show, I'd really be gratefull. I'll dig it out, but I also have a
copy of the "E! True Hollywood Story" to trade. Thanks!

Subject: Barking Brake Light Update
Thanks to everyone who helped me with figuring out why my Parking
Brake light wouldn't go out. Low fluid in the resovior was triggering
the light. As it turns out, my master cylinder is leaking, so it will
need to be replaced. The epoxy on the chassis has bubbled, and does
flake off easily, but the good news is that there is no rust
underneath (car has always been in the desert). When I take the
master cylinder out, I'll sand off the compromised epoxy, and recoat
the frame with new (a while back, DMC Houston mentioned that they
found bottles of the original epoxy). Since the damage is only minor
(right now), I feel alot better about this. But as a note to anyone
looking @ a car they are considering to purchase, ALWAYS bring a
philips screwdriver with you to remove the access panels to check for
this kind of damage.

In order to get the competitors all their judging materials in a
timely manner, cut-off for CONCOURS REGISTRATION ONLY will be on May
15th, 2000.
We have just received word that there will not be an official
DeLorean Motor Company sponsored concours held at the DOA event in
Las Vegas this November, so the DeLorean Car Show 2000 in Cleveland
will be the only official concours held this year.
With all the other events/features Ken has lined up for the show,
this is definitely a "don't miss" event.

Subject: Inner door seal mounting modification
Awhile back, I purchased new inner door seals from PJ Gradys.
To my dismay, when I fit them on my car, they tended to catch the
door on it's way down, requiring a forceful slam to shut the door.
I spoke with Rob about this, and he described a procedure to modify
the mounting lip (using a die grinder) so that the seals would sit
back slightly farther, and not catch the inside of the door.
Unfortunately, I'm more of a visual learner, and I'm not quite
sure that I understood the directions correctly. Has anybody
performed this procedure on their cars? Besides wanting to actually
user my new door seals, I would like to create a set of visual
instructions for other DeLorean owners who may be interested as
well.
So, can anybody help out with some graphics or a detailed
instruction set?
