If anyone needs the plastic parts from 81 two key system let me know. I
have the replacement parts for the left door and have the right door as
soon as I am able to get the orignal parts from Walter to copy. I am
refering to the plastic cap which connects to the lock rod and the pice
which holds the cylinder in the door. Unfortunatly the plastic I have is
only tan but can be painted. Hopefully within the next week I will have
a
stock of black as well for the exterior piece.

I'm passing this along to the list from a non-owner:

"On Friday December 28, 2001, I was driving on I-40 from Amarillo, TX into
Oklahoma to do some mountain biking at Foss Lake state park (don't
ask...another
obsession). Just west of the exit located at mile marker 26 there was a
DeLorean
on the north side of the interstate parked out in the open in the yard of
what
appeared to be an individual's home. The home was located on the access
road
that paralleled the interstate on the north side. I can recognize a
DeLorean
from a mile away so it was unmistakable. The stainless steel skin and
profile
was apparent. As I was traveling quickly and did not wish to stop I did
not
pick
up any details about condition etc. Perhaps someone wants to investigate
to
see
if this car is available to a good home."

If you need more information, let me know and I'll put you in touch with
the
person who sent me this.

Ken

Subject: Windshield mounting

Well I had my windshield replaced for the second time, after the installer
broke the first one. The installer then installed the rear view mirror
with the same mounting sticky stuff, it looked like double stick tape. So
to make a long story short my mirror is now sitting in my hand and not on
the window. I asked the question because it seems as though the way the
mirror mounts is diffrent than any other I have put on and I don't want to
replace another windshield.

[Moderators note: The yellow top Optima is the deep cycle version designed
to be taken way down before recharging as used in a boat for example. (I
know Stian, perfect solution for Lucas electrics.) Really, the original
red top version has more cold cranking amps, is designed with everyday
driving in mind and is cheaper to boot.]

Can someone take a quick measurement for me?
I'm shopping around for a travel case (h2o resistant & hard case) to put
on the rack when I get my
car.
What is the surface area measurement of the luggage rack?
Left to Right and Top to Bottom.

Please reply off list . . . I don't think this warrents starting a thread.

Subject: D REX!

To Purists and Non-Purists,

As many of you know, the D Rex (4x4 DeLorean) has been going through a
major transformation, and last weekend it was officially unveiled at the
World of Wheels car show in Chicago.

I have seen a lot of custom DeLoreans in my life, and this one is by far
the coolest one I have ever seen. Bad Ass doesn't fully describe this
car/truck, but those words are usually the first to come to people's
mouths who see it. Rich has put a lot of work into this beast, and I
think everyone, including the "purists," should stop by his site as well
as mine to see and appreciate the results.

work)

Enjoy the pictures and video, and lets get excited about this custom
DeLorean! :)

Ciao,
Tamir

I uploaded pictures to the photo album section at yahoo of the cars my son
and I made.
His is not quite to scale-- but we had to make sure it met all the BSA
guidelines to race. It did well but did not place. We didn't do enough to
prepare the wheels. But, he did win a trophy for design and craftsmanship.
My car... raced ok in the Dad's race too. But I took more pain to make it
to
scale and rushed on my paint job, which I will remedy sometime in the near
future.

Take a look. If anyone else has made one before (or is inspired to do it
right & better than our attempts) then uploads some pictures too! I look
forward to more submissions in this yet unexplored DMC category. ;-)

Try using a small hand held butane torch to heat the plug. It'll come out.

Subject: RE: Optima Delorean Battery

Well after much research, and help from the list (big thanks to
Marty) I purchased a Optima Yellow-Top battery.

Here was my reasoning for going with this one, and not the Red-Top
which a few other members had (though one member stated he had a
Yellow-Top).

Note- I did purchase the Yellow-Tip with Side Posts, and it fits
perfectly.

Here is the model info:
Optima 750 Yellow Top Deep Cycle Battery
price $149.99 + $5.50 shipping
purchased: http://www.sunnbattery.com

The funny thing is that the Red-Top actually cost more @ $159.99
(see the web site)!

My Delorean is not my daily driver. I only use it about once a week
right now. But when the weather turns warmer, I hope to use it more
often. So with that in mind (that it sometimes sits for days- maybe
even weeks), and the fact that I plan on putting a better stereo in
it, I opted for the Yellow-Top. Here is what their web site states
about the underlying difference, that made me choose yellow:

>From http://www.optimabatteries.com/
"To provide the customer the best OPTIMA solution, it is, necessary
to consider both the application and the charging system before
recommending the correct OPTIMA. For example, if your customer has a
Ford Expedition with an after-market alarm system, which OPTIMA
would you recommend? If the customer drives the car every day, the
Red Top would be the correct choice, since the amperage drain will
be nominal and the battery would be recharged on a daily basis.
However, if the customer stores the vehicle for a long period of
time with the alarm system engaged, you should recommend the OPTIMA
Yellow Top, since the amperage drain over several weeks would damage
a Red Top and reduce its life."

I hope this helps!
