As it is right now, the DMCTech site is still young, but does show
some potential, along with a few questions. However, I am more then
just a bit concerned about one thing: copyright. The rules of the
list for the DML do not mention copyright anywhere within. However,
the rules for the DMCTech list state the following:

A. Ernst. Any subscriber may use the information contained herein
for their own personal use, but it may not be reproduced without
written permission. Contributors retain the right to use their own

Will this now apply to the DML as well? I don't mean to be a pain or
anything, but I do NOT wish to have someone profit off of my hard
work and time. Especially if my knowlege is used to write a manual or
book that someone else will profit off of. What I do contribute to
the DML I would rather have freely distributed for no charge except
for the distribution costs while maintaining proper credit for
myself. I realize that I do not speak for others, but I would also
like thier opinions as well on this subject matter.

If you were charging a "sealed" battery (one that you can't open the
caps to the cells) and you heard it "bubbling" you were probably
overcharging it. The best way to charge a battery is long and slow.
Never let it get hot while charging. 8 hours on a high rate of charge
was probably too much. Be very careful to never charge a battery that
has been frozen, some of the plates may have shorted together and in
extreme cases they have been known to explode! If you have the time
hook to a trickle charger and check daily till fully charged. Load
test to measure the amp-hour capacity of the battery. If it is less
than 80% of listed capacity consider replacemant. You should always
remove from car while charging. Never smoke or use open flame near a
charging battery, it is giving off hydrogen gas.

accelerating "rapidly" in 3rd on a freeway onramp, I had a sudden
transmission failure. Suspecting a twisted-off input shaft, I was close -
there is a splined coupler that mates the input shaft to the mainshaft. It
is a flimsy piece with large spaces between sets of splines, and made of
soft metal. I had a new one made which is bulletproof, but also must
consider that maybe this piece was made that way for a reason - think
"fuse". Anyway, its working great now. But I still don't recommend
burnouts....

To adjust the fuel mixture you MUST have an emission analyzer. Any
garage that has one can adjust the car. For the full procedure refer
to workshop manual D:04:01-:03. By a literal interpetation of the law
you are really not supposed to touch the adjustment without the proper
training and certifacation hence the reason for the "tamperproof"
plug. If you bring the car in ready to do it shouldn't cost too much
although I know some shops that say anyone on the analyzer has to
cover their cost so they charge out at about $75/hour but you only
need about 15 minuets. Make sure you plan an appointment in advance
and come in with the car warmed up.(Some shops keep their analyzer off
until they need it and it takes some models as long as 15 min just to
warm up and then they have to be calibrated!)

Jan is correct, I overlooked they are in series. Relay's may click
like they are working but not. You may try swaping them out.4th speed
for third speed. Then see what happens to the fan. you may only need
to clean the contacts. Be sure to check for loose wires or not
connected good.

In a Lead-Acid battery gas is formed when charging the battery,
this is normal. The more amps you push in the more bubbling...
BE VERY CAREFULL when you still hear this bubbling:
these fumes are not good for your health and are flammable.
No smoking near a charging battery and look out for sparks;
disconnect power to the charger first, THEN disconnect the
wires from the battery. This way there is the lest chance of sparks.

I've been drooling over that Delorean all weekend. I would have bid on it,
but I can't be 100% certain that I'll have the money in a couple of weeks
when it comes time to pay. Looks like a real gem. For those of you who
didn't check out the link, this was a ~38K mile car, and the owner used to
be a professional Delorean mechanic. Car looked immaculate all around. He
had yellow neon under the car below the doors, and another small neon bar in
the rear window (inside the car). Full custom stereo system with a nice
subwoofer, and a blue neon amp on the shelf behind the seats. The entire
system (including the neon) was modular and could be pulled out, leaving no
bolt holes or other damage on the vehicle if you wanted to return it to
stock.
All in all, I came real close to buying it, except for the little problem
that I'm not sure how I'd pay for it just yet. :)
The high bidder came within a few hundred bucks of the guy's reserve price,
so my guess is they made a deal offline and it's sold. Does anyone know who
bought it?

After trying 3 switches and testing everything else as my last post

I proceded to put my hands on all the pipes to see if they were
getting hot enough,sure enough they were nearly burning my fingers.
So I was just wondering as my fans work fine if I join the 2 wires on
the otterstat,does it make any difference which way round the wires
plug on the switch.

What I forgot to mention is that the power to 1 comes from the speedswitch, so it is only
there with the speed set to "3", 1 has +12V with the ignition on, the rest is permanent...

I just 'fixed' my distributor, now my car runs 0% of the time, instead of
the previous 5%. I was going to try to check on the timing, but since the
car won't run or idle, this is quite difficult. Is there a setting/location
of the distributor where it should be close enough to run?
Also- my timing plate- I highly suspect- is not stock. Is there any chance
someone could take a picture of the timing plate and post it/send it to me?
I'm curious about where 0 (TDC) is located. The plate on mine is very large
and the '0' seems a little further left than I would have expected. I may
have to realign the timing plate- anyone have any pointers for finding TDC
for cylinder 1?

The 1981 American Express Christmas Catalog offered DeLoreans, electroplated
with 24kt gold at $85,000 each. This was to be a limited edition of no more
than 100 cars. Two were actually built: VIN 4300 and VIN 4301. The first,
(VIN 4300) is on display at the The National Automobile Museum (Harrah
Automobile Foundation) in Reno, NV. The second (VIN 4301) is on display in a
locked glass showcase in the lobby of the Snyder National Bank, Snyder, TX.
There is at least one additional Gold Plated DeLorean - the last car
assembled. This car, VIN 20105, is a 1983 model. The source of the gold
plated panels is in question. Some state that the panels were plated at the
same time as the other two cars were built and were held in stock in case one
of the cars needed repair. Others state that they were gold plated just to
mark the last car produced.

That is not uncommon. When you charge a lead acid battery you form
hydrogen and oxygen (that's what causes them to explode) it bubbles
off the plates in the acid solution and that's what you heard. The
faster the charge rate (more current) the more bubbles you produce, I
would guess that you were charging it at a rate of 5 amps or more.

This interior color scheme is very attractive. The contrast between the
silver carpets and black seats, dash, console, door trim panels, etc.,
naturally blends together the exteriors black and silver with the interior.
It is very eye catching.
The carpeting material in the 1983 cars is a different pile or texture
than the 1981 vehicles.
In addition, Rob Grady won the first place trophy with his personal DMC
in the DeLorean Owners Association 1994 Williamsburg Virginia Concourse. His
1983 DeLorean has the aforementioned silver and black interior. (DeLorean
World magazine Volume 11 Num. 3, summer 1994.)
Based on the information provided to me via final assembly, there were no
factory cars produced with gray seats & black interior, or black seats with
gray interior. Additionally, there were no gray dashboards with black
binnacle, and visa versa.

According to Lief Montin, the National parts manager for the original
DeLorean Motor Company, the last gold car was plated with panels kept on
hand at the request of American Express in case one of the two cars needed
repair. Same for why the last car also has a tan interior. They were spares,
also.

No, the clutches made by Centerforce are specificly for the DeLorean.
I say clutches because there are 2 seperate models. The regular
Centerforce I, and the Dual Friction. Your be best is to order the
Center Force kit from either DMCJoe or PJ Grady. That way you can get
the complete kit with the pilot bearing, throw out bearing, and the
clutch fork grease seal all in one shot.
Minus the adjustable clutch link and a new flywheel, my entire clutch
system is brandnew. So for me to make a viable comparison to my old
OEM clutch is a bit difficult since it had defective parts. But if
you car is only going to see occasional, light use, the OEM should be
fine. For daily driving, I would use the Centerforce first. The CF
clutch is only $40 more then the OEM, and it provides 30% more
gripping power. When hitting hills, headwinds (not often in a
DeLorean!), or starting out, I can feel a definate difference. The
stiff feel of the pedal is still the same, but it does grip a bit
quicker.
Dual friction is only for heavily modified vehicles. CF's website
states that it has 90% more gripping power than a stock clutch, but
with a lighter feel. I have no idea what so ever as to this clutch's
performance. I don't even know if it would be warranted on a dual
turbo, or upgraded engine from DMC Houston. But it would be
interesting to see how one feels...

It doesn't make any difference how the wires are connected to the
switch. Test the switch. Both terminals should not have any connection
to the case and should have continuity to each other at the preset
temperature. (it should say on the case). Immerse in water and heat
the water and watch the thermometer with a meter connected to the
terminals. Near the prescribed temp the switch should show continuty.

I just ordered the ground effects package for my car from PJ Grady. Robert,
if you are sill looking, they can get the kit for you too. (800)350-7429 is
the number. I'm having them drill the holes and insert the little plastic
clips too so I can secure the side and rear pieces on without drilling any
holes into my car. PJ Grady has some sort of "jig" so they can drill the
holes correctly and accurately. The pieces are gonna hook up just like the
stock rocker panels that I'm removing. I can't wait to get mine!!!

The side skirts, black, had "DeLorean" in silver, and the front "thing"
looked as if it were bolted onto the stock "thing" (Note: "Thing" refers
to
the scrub bar under the bumper, I do not know the correct name, so please
fill me in, thanks.) : )
2.The question is, WHO makes these effects? They are SO tight!
