I almost always leave the floor jack under the vehicle just in case
something like this happens. I prefer a belt and suspender approach. Have
two methods to hold the vehicle up in case one fails.
As I said in an earlier message, a floor jack is so easy to use that it make
jacking up the Delorean simple. So simple that you can raise the whole car
and have it supported at four points. Since the frame is so rigid, three
points will support the vehicle in the event that one failed.
Use a 4x4 to spread the load and jack the car up in the middle on each side
to get it off the floor. I used this process repeatedly until I got the car
high enough to remove the body and roll the frame out from underneath it.
Yes, I used a long 4x4 to extend the stands out wide enough to roll the
frame out.
I had two store bought jack stands ... and never liked how they looked.
They don't look like they should work even though they do. I built two more
out of 2x6 & 2x8 scraps. They are quite wide at the bottom and the boards
are nailed together on their flat (thin) sides. They look like they will
work and they do. They are wider than store bought and they cannot crumble
like concrete blocks.
Just some thoughts. And I'm subject to being wrong without notice:-)

Well today was our first nice day in a long time, and as I sat in my office,
my wife called. She wanted me to break out the D and get it started and
ready for a ride. Seems she was on her way home and the bright blue sky got
the best of her and she missed riding in the D. And I thought I was the D
nut in the family. Broke out the battery, checked the fluids and warmed her
up. I would like to add that after 4 months, not one fluid was down.
Also on the battery thread from a while back, I have a gel battery from
Advance Auto Parts chain. When I put it in the car, I noticed that on the
strap it says "Optima". I got this last year for $120.00 reg price form the
local store. It is 700 cranking amps. If anyone is looking for Optima
quality and have an Advance Parts chain near them, it is the same battery.

Hmm, that's weird because I use progressive...
actually, I went through Triple A, who has a deal with
progressive, so you may want to try going through AAA.
I have no mileage limits, if the car get stolen,
burned, wrecked, or anything, it's an automatic 50K to
me... they dont even try to find a replacement car...
Progressive has a list of "cars that cant be fixed or
replaced", I dont know the tech term for the list, but
AAA has it... Delorean is on it, and thats how I got
my coverage.. AAA actually did the quote and
everything.. I am NM, but that shouldnt make a
difference, other than I might pay more... auto theft
here is very high because they take them straight to
Mexico... if you need help let me know and I can have
my AAA agent talk to you, she may be able to get you
the same coverage I have, for a lot cheaper.

Yep, I know what you're saying...
I came up with the 50K based on what it would cost to
replace my D with a refurbished one from DMC in
Houston.
I have <4200 original miles, original everything on
the car, the leather seats dont have as much as a
crease in them from sitting down, or a blemish. It's
all original, down to the fuel sending unit which
doesn't work.
Because of the value of original equipment, I believe
(not that insurance companies believe the same), the
car isn't replaceable, because refurbished D's are not
original, atleast not completely.
For an engine in the shape mine is, would require the
re-built motor from DMC, the leather, being flawless,
would require brand new interior on the refurbished
unit, etc. From what I can tell, not everything is
original OEM, which makes it worth less than what is
being replaced.... I read on another site (I think the
Delorean dealer in CA), that they sell refurbished
units starting at 50K. So I do not think I would have
a hard time arguing the value.... I just hope I never
have to cash in on the insurance. This car is special
to me, it's my first D, and it's the first thing I
bought when I started my own company, when I hit the
"successful" mark.
You do need to always keep one thing in mind though,
insurance companies are big (make that huge) for one
reason, they are pro's at getting out of paying
things, so always be prepared, and keep some vaseline
handy, because you never win them all.

Sorry guys, I thought this would simply be a get it and install it item
and everyone would know what it was. Not important enough to pursue.
For the record, all the spring washers I've encountered have been made
of spring steel and most had a slight curvature on a cylindrical plane.
If indeed they were originally made of spring steel, it's likely they
would have rusted away long ago and that would explain the mystery.

I know the washers that you are speaking of, and I may be wrong on this. But
if I recall correctly, my 73 VW Super Beetle had the same style washers with
it's wipers. Don't know if they would be the same size. It has been some 15

This sounds good in theory, but don't expect an insurance company to pony up
50k quite so easily. I deal insurance cos. every day and believe me they
won't turn over one cent more that you force them to. If it is
non-replaceable, then they will not total your car and give you the value of
a replacement. However, don't assume that they won't fix it. If they can
order you a brand new fender (NOS from Huston) and make your car as good as
it was, they will. They have not attempted to "replace" your car, but have
only put it back as good as it was.

passport under 22 CFR (Code of Federal Regulations) 53.2(h) of Title 22 for
the specified time you indicate your travel provided you contact the US
State department and country of choice for your visit (Ireland) for their
approval letter to be issued for entry/exit of domestic/foreign locations
and return to the US. Most people are unaware of option.

You can get a same-day passport (renewal, I think), if you're willing to pay
a $100 fee (I think), and wait in line for 2-3hours at your nearest U.S.
Passport Office. I did it a few years back on an impromptu (really "last
minute") trip to Italy. There are also plenty of "passport services" on the
internet that will charge you for them to stand in line, but that just
increases the cost. Depending on timing, they might be able to do a one-day
turnaround.

I've no idea precsely what hoops you need to jump through if you're not in
DC, but I popped down to the passport office on L St. a few year back
(with all necessary ID *and* a copy of my itinerary) and walked out with a
passport in hand about two hours later. Granted, there was a family
emergency in the UK; just saying it *can* be done if needed.
Oh, and you know what happens when you're staring at a DMC shop manual at
4am? You get really strange DMC dreams, that's what. Somehow, I don't
think this was *quite* what JZD had in mind... :)

I am not sure if my first message went through, so I am
going to try and repost a part of it. All of my messages to the DML
have been returned, whats going on? Anyway, has anyone tackled
balancing a PRV-V6? I think it would be a good idea. Also, what tires
would most owners recommend to put on the car. I want matching pairs
if at all possible! Also, how can you be sure that a car has had all
the necessary updates? I need to know as I am looking into buying
another car. Thanks!

Be careful, remember you are going to Belfast, N.Ireland ... under British control (thats why big JZD can't be with us in May ... British arrest warrants, etc?!). If you land in London without a Passport things could get very complicated!!! If you land in Shannon or Dublin in the Irish Republic I'm not sure of the requirements ... note though Passport documents are not checked on the Eire/N.Ireland border.
Its safer and more sensible though to have a Passport ... we don't want you arrested in Belfast as an "illegal alien!"

SJI 5699, vin number 12177 was sold to an Engish owner ( Club Member), at
auction in 1999. But don't worry, there will be at least 4 other origanal
RHD cars at Eurofest, along with a good number of LHD's .
Incidentaly, the "one and only "Eurospec" LHD car is for sale, our club
president Simon, is thining down his collection of classic cars. Price
around £17K or about $25k.

I only wish I was so lucky! I just removed about a foot of snow off my D
(fluffy top layer), and there's another half-foot to go (hard, icy lower
layer). Don't worry guys, there is a car cover under there somewhere. It's
been about three months since I last drove my Darling D, I just can't wait
until a nice warm day here (Boston) to take it out again, and start working
on my FPD!
Unfortunately, they are predicting another snow storm this weekend. Ugh.

I remember one day back in 1984, I was working on my car (a 1975
vette)it was a very hot day and I was using frame jacks,and the car
was very steady on the frame jacks,as I was working under the car I
was not paying attention to the frame jacks,and I was busy working on
the car,as I crawled out from under the car,to get a bigger socket
that I needed to continue working,just as I got out from under the
car,it CAME CRASHING down,what had happened was the asphalt had
softened,and was very hot from the sun beating down on it,and when I
jacked up the car and put 3200lbs of weight on the jacks,slowly but
surely,the Frame jacks legs started sinking into the asphalt,and
tilting,then to a point that the car fell off the jacks,I was VERY
luckly that at The moment,I needed to crawl out to get something,as I
would not have been able to crawl out to avoid the car from crushing
me.THE point is if it is a very hot,sunny day,and you are going to
jack your car on a paved driveway,PUT a STEEL plate under the frame
jacks(make sure all the legs of the frame jacks are on the steel
plate)(Or better yet bring them to a welder and have a steel plate
WELDED to the bottom of the Frame jacks)This also applies if you use
frame jacks on hard packed dirt.and chock the wheels.

Yeah... been there, done that. Ready to go to Europe on vacation with my
son, checked my passport and it was still valid, but didn't check his, since
we got them the same time. Ooops. About a week before the trip... looked and
his had expired! Being under age at the time of issue, his was only good for
5 years, not 10 like mine. :( Went to Philadelphia, paid extra and got one
in a few hours. Usual turn around time, my local county courthouse says, is

few discrepencies in the description for it, namely the car having anti-lock
brakes, power steering and cruise control. check out his reply to my email.
i have forwarded it to the list. maybe someone who is in the toronto area
can check this car out and see if it is for real? i just noticed he says it
has power seats too. if you want to check the car out on ebay, type in
DeLorean in the search window, then find the car for sale which says
'DeLorean - the back to the future car!!!!' all over the header. no, i
already have my DeLorean - but i feel sorry for the guy who falls for this
one if these options really aren't even there!

Manual transmission, shift linkage, part number 18 is listed as a
stiffener, what the heck does is stiffen? It's hanging out in empty
space on the prints. Please, in simple terms, what does it do, where
does it go, I don't seem to have that part or haven't found it yet.

I met the guy and his wife who are selling this car in Cleveland last
summer. He is a very nice guy and his Delorean is excellent. i
don't know what he had in it, but I can assure you it is a VERY clean
car and well worth what he is asking. I believe he is also on this
list.

I am not sure how much this matters, but on one of the pictures it shows the
center console with a few mods. In the middle of the pic it shows the
window switches and the defrost switch. The windows are the same, but the
defrost switch has been moved to the last spot and the "fake" switch closest
to the drivers side has some added buttons. Further the original defrost
spot has a new button in it as well. Looks like at least a total of 3 new
buttons there. this might account for a few of the things added in the
description.
