I live here in Houston and I stop by DMC Houston often...its on the way to
work and school after all.
Well about a month ago I was there and I saw a DeLorean in their lot with a
liscense plate that said "PERPHECT" and I was trying to figure out what it
meant. Obviously it meant "perfect" but why? ...Then it hit me that Marty
McFly ALWAYS used to say "perfect" after Doc would give him a strand of bad
news etc.
I thought that it was nice to see a bit of creativity in the plate....I see
so many variations on the word "TIME" on the plates it was just nice to see a
BTTF related plate that was completely unique!
Whoever has that plate, congradulations on your creativity!

Some owners have deliberately disconnected their engine compartment lights
due to a rare but possible no-turn-off situation where the lens overheats and
melts. Hot plastic blobs on a hot muffler... not good. When you have it
working again, you might want to leave the one connector disconnected except
when you actually need light.

Not mentioned but FYI speakers can be reconed, I ran a radio/TV biz for
a lot of years and we had speakers reconed as a regular part of what we
did. The reasons varied: special mount, special size, special
configuration, the customer preferred to keep his old speaker, or
sometimes it was simply an economy move that saved up to 75% on some of
the better speakers. If anyone needs a link I can supply the Southern
CA outfit we used but they're probably all across the country, ask your
local repair shop where they ship theirs or just have them handle it.

How about setting up a page on the DMCNews Website with passport photos
(also maybe VIN's, e-mail addy's) of those who plan to attend the Eurofest
in Belfast.
Would be nice with a photo gallery where those who are interested can submit
a photo to be published online before the event takes place. Then it would
be easy to recognize people.

greetings..
i was just looking through the dmcnews.com "picture of the month" page and
saw the pic of the starship enterprise encountering a de lorean. i thought
that something looked familiar about the car. i took a closer look and
found the bleached rear left signal lense and the blurred out ontario
lisense plate and realized that it was my car! i checked my web page and
yep, it was taken from my page! i have emailed it to some friends.. thanks
ken rawlings. since i have owned the car (june 1999), it has been
imortalized in a video game (midtown madness - go to
www.motocrossmadness2.com/midtown) and in star trek (one of my favourite
shows). this is a happy day!
i guess it just goes to show that i should check the dmcnews.com page more
often!

If you have a poor ground connection, concurrent with a speed
difference, you will have a dimming of the bulbs on that side. When you
get a poor ground sufficient to change speed, you will have lower
voltage. Without one side having dimmer lights not much chance of a
ground problem. The way it works, think of a quick bi-metal strip that
gets hot and opens then closes quickly. The greater the current drain
the hotter it gets and the quicker it opens and closes. If a bulb is
out on one side the current is less so that side takes longer to get hot
and cycle. What was presented on the list was a perfect example of one
bulb out but since that doesn't seem to be Andy's problem we're looking
in the corners. If all bulbs are the same brightness they are all
getting the same voltage...no ground problem and no ground intercept
problem (wiring).

I don't know if it has been discussed before, but the John DeLorean
cocaine sting was featured on the TLC (the learning channel) show
"Ultimate 10".
IMHO, it was good exposure because the show made it clear that it WAS A
STING, and DeLorean was never convicted.

Thanks for the response, I had read that they stayed on and that people
disconnected them for that reason. On my cars everything has to work
as intended (or better) if it's reasonably possible. This was an easy
fix. If I were going to show my car my first thought would be to take
out the courtesy lamp fuse and run a neat little (fused leg) wire pair
to a tiny switch hidden out of the way. I may do it anyway I spend so
much time working on one thing or another with all of the doors and lids
open. That fuse was out for most of my first month while chasing down
electrical problems. The fuse box, by the way, is a great place to
check for strange current drain, just put your current indicating meter
across the fuse holder (use the volt meter first of course to see which
is +).

Nick, I have run the cars without the 02 sensor hooked up and had no
difference in the idle. Just ran richer and used more gas. But, I
would hook up the 02 and get back to original. Like others have said,
valves, air vacuum leaks. Is the ECU idle unit working to adjust the
Idle motor if not, or you need some to try, I will loan you some.
Also make sure the idle speed switch is making contact and all wires
are ok.

On my car, I decided to not go with the BTTF theme. I hear enough jokes on
that theme already, yet it doesn't bother me.
Florida allows 7 characters with a half space in the middle somewhere. I
ended up choosing WATSDAT. I got the idea from someone else on the DML who
has WAWAZAT. A lot of people look at my car and say, "What's that?" So I
figure that the tag fits.
Don't feel like a copy cat. Just because someone uses it in one state
doesn't mean that you can't use it on your car in another state. Besides,
imitation is the sincerest form of flattery.
Other choices that I considered are the following:
OUTATYM already taken
TYMMACH
TYMWARP
GIGAWAT already taken
TINFOIL what many D's look like at night under street lights
PROFESR
FLUXCAP
COOLCAR
KEWLCAR variations already taken
KEWLKAR
INNOTYM

There was (and I assume still is) an area on the DML that has a collection
of DMC tags that people send in. I plan on sending mine in when I get
around to having a good picture made of it. I saw a similar compilation
picture on someone's web site, but I haven't a clue where it is now.
Perhaps someone can say? Looking at it might give you some ideas.

Dear list,
I had my suspicions confirmed yesterday when I found that I was completely
out of R-12 due to an A/C compressor that’s shot. I’ve been expecting this
since I got the car, as it’s another one of those “19-year-old things.”
The question seems to come up yearly, so I’ll be the one to ask it this year
with the idea that your opinions this year are better than last year’s.
Should I convert to R-134a? The AZ-D club mechanic, Stan Davis, who is the
owner of Mesa Auto Works, said that I won’t be able to get R-12 in a year.
He also said that 134a is made colder by a new adjustable orifice tube (my
paraphrase may not be exactly correct there) that adjusts to make it a bit
colder. Should I hunt down and pay more for the colder, stock R-12 or
convert to the 134a?
Also, he recommended that I look into having the compressor rebuilt rather
than replaced. Has anyone done this, and if so was it worthwhile or would
it be easier (in the long run) to just get a new one?
I don’t have much time before it starts to get hot here, so I have to get
something done. Any and all opinions are welcome and appreciated.

There is one small outbreak of Foot and Mouth in a remote rural part of
Ireland but it is currently under control by the agriculture authorities
here. Press reports in Britain should not be confused with Ireland -
there's a large pond called the Irish sea that seperates the two countries.
Eurofest 2001 does not intend visting any farms during the convention and to
the best of my knowledge F & M does not affect the DeLorean car anyway, and
neither does it affect humans! The event is three months away and so far we
have had registrations confirmed from several countries, so short of bubonic
plague breaking out there's nothing to get excited about. Your concern
about the US Customs not letting you back home is total nonsense!

Group,
In searching around on the internet, I have been reading a lot
of bad press about the Volvo B27 and B28F engines. I have read of
their propensity to eat camshafts, leak oil and overheat. I
understand that there were improvements to the B28F engine, like
increased lubrication. I was just curious what steps can be taken to
improve the reliability of the engine? I owned a DeLorean before and
want to get another one, but am just curious what can be done to aid
in making a DeLorean a "daily driver" car. Any info would be greatly

Foot AND mouth, only effects "clove hoofed " animals..is there something
your not telling us Mark?
Any way, it should be well sorted by then.
BSE can take up to 20 years to develop ( it is a disease that some old beef
cows got), now it very rare, and only beef younger than 30 months old are
allowed to be used for human consumption. It has not stopped most people
eating beef, including me.
You probably have a much better chance of being struck by a meteorite than
by contacting one of these food related illnesses in Belfast.

I was just talking to a Heating/cooling place that rebuilds them. The
guy there said that either rebuilt or new they will be the same in
quality and guarantee (at least from him). He said that he sends the
compressors out to a place in florida to be rebuilt and that the only
thing that they reuse on the compressor is the housing itself,
everything else is new. The rebuilt ones are cheaper than new ones.
