I believe the temp experienced by the muffler system is in the area of 500 degrees. Does anyone out there know if this is close or not? If you have any concrete information in this area would you please e-mail. I owned a Vega since new and had more than 110K miles on it prior to selling it in good condition. One of the secret of keeping any car running for a long time is maintenance. I religiously change oil and filter in the Vega every 2000 miles and it had been a reliable car. The only problem I had was body rust but that was common for cars in those days. I have no complain at all for the Vega or the D and thanks Mr. DeLorean. The dwell meter we have has ranges for six and eight cylinder engines. Inasmuch as this meter was designed for setting old fashioned point ignition do we need to use a multiplier on the guage reading to get an accurate dwell angle for the Lambda system? With the car warm, on the eight cylinder scale we are getting readings of 10-12 degrees. We understand the normal reading should be 35-45 degrees. ________________________________________________________________________ ________________________________________________________________________ Message: 5 Date: Mon, 1 Jan 2001 11:20:30 -0800 From: "IN2TIME" <Gary@xxxxxxxxxxx> Subject: RE: Cruise control installation >RE: Santa brought a cruise control - throttle cable is too long. The throttle cable from the command module is about 12" too long. Cutting the cable seems the logical answer but then I lose the ball end and also risk pinching the cable jacket. I tried making a loop but then its too short. Any suggestions???? (I bought a Vega for my wife years ago and that clap trap tincan was by far the worst car I have ever owned!) To be fair with Delorean and his Vega, they were acutally GREAT cars to modify, for race car purposes(Drag Racing or Street Racing)in fact (believe it or not) there are some, chevy vegas that have a book value in access of $50,000,(Motion Perforence built vegas and Yenko built vegas)Also they were great cars for v-8 conversions, that would become/ turn 12 second ets in the Quarter mile, with a basic STOCK body and frame, try that with a Delorean, also a lot of Pro stock racing was done in Vega Bodies turning 8 second times in the 200++ mph quarter mile.(Grumpy Jenkins Pro Modified Chevy Vega,(AND many many others)that Blew away all the competion for years to come) They were the poor mans A.C. Shelby Cobra,as a Big block chevy would fit nicely in the engine bay,and setup correct you could have yourself a 9sec.street sleeper. So even when Delorean was in charge of a "claptrap Tin can" it turned out for the BEST. Can someone explain how the turn signal cancel mechanism works? Is it accomplished by the white plastic collar that is on the steering column and indexes to the steering wheel. It has a nub on one side of it but not the other. There is no part number for this collar that I can find. Dear List, Below is a link to pics of a hurt D that needs a new home. Please do NOT visit this link if you are easily upset at images of hurt D's (I cried when I visited). The car is selling for $7,500. That is all the info I have at this time. I would buy this car and save it if I could but sadly do not have the money at this time. http://www.octagonauto.com/images/delorenrear.jpg DMC Wannabe ________________________________________________________________________ ________________________________________________________________________
