Subject: East TN area owners!
A few of us Knox,TN area owners were together today (as we
are almost every Sunday) and discussed the possibility of
starting an area club. Just informal get togethers or
what-not.
If there are any D owners close to Knoxville; E.TN,
W.Carloinas, SE Kentucky, N. Georgia, or anywhere that
would be interested in doing this let me know. It would be
great for more local owners to get together to share their
expertise with the other owners and to have fun..Maybe even
have some driving tours of the Great Smokies or wherever we
end up!
I know there are several DeLoreans in the area; however,
the owners have not come out of the woodwork yet! If anyone
has any tips on starting a succesful club I wouldn't mind
some pointers!
-On another note-- Sean Howley, Joe Palatinus, and I
removed the left front fender on my car today. A
professional that works on the cars at my work will be
removing the dent this Thursday. He assured me that he
shouldn't have any probs removing my dent, as long as I
removed the fender off of the car for him. I will post to
the list the success of my dent removal! I hope all goes
well. I have the car cover on the car so that no one will
wonder why the fender and hood is off of my car!

While I do not have a for-sure answer on this one, but it is possible that the
vendor that supplies "Zilla" with the connectors builds them with the wire
there..
Instead of removing the wire from the connector, it is just easier to leave it
there and do nothing.
AGAIN, this is just a possibility based on my knowledge of how electronic parts
are sold.

Wow, I have the same problem with my recently-bought Delorean. The rear
light turns on when I open the doors, but I can't get the front light to
do so, however, it does work in the always on position. I think I know
what's up with the dealy. If you open a door and shut it quickly, the
light will stay on. But if you open the door for maybe 10 seconds or so,
and then close it, the interior light turns off right away. My guess is
that it's supposed to work that way.

I Think you've misunderstand my problem:
My windows aren't fogging up during a drive,
but during the night; when my car sits outside...
I don't know when the cooling-system was checked last (I only
bought the car two months ago), but before buying I did check
the hoses. None of them are brittle and I am not loosing coolant.
Actually, my cars' cooling-system works quite well!

Yep - this is more-or-less normal, although you are supposed to be
able to have the door open a litle longer than ten seconds. But parts
are aging etc. etc. "Your mileage may vary" as they say.
There was a modification "invented" a long time ago - it's in one of
the old DWorlds. The Mod was supposed to make it act "normal" i.e.
the delay in turning off was always the same no matter how long the
door was open (like in many other cars). If I recall correctly the mod used a timer chip instead of an RC circuit to set the delay time.

We have a 1983 DMC with 84k miles on it, which we have refurbished.
Since we started the engine, upon deceleration or light throttle the
engine bucks and jerks. We have replaced fuel pump, filter,
accumulator, injectors, distributor cap and rotor, ht leads,
plugs,oxygen sensor, and injector seals. A Volvo specialist has set
the mixture and the timing is at the prescribed 13 degrees BTDC. We
have tried everything we know possible, and have checked and fixed
every vacuum leak. The car accelerates smoothly, all 6 injectors
deliver exactly the same amount of fuel, the frequency valve is
operating, we have set the throttle switches correctly, the vacuum
advance on the distributor is not sticking. Any ideas on what could
be causing this? Nothing we have done has had any effect. We notice
even with new injectors at low flow, the pattern is not a perfect
cone on every one. Could it be that the new injectors are bad, and we
are not getting perfect atomization at low flow?

If I'm not mistaken, many modern cars have dielectric grease on/in all
connections. The grease eliminates air and water that can cause the
connection to corrode (especially dissimilar metals). Given the choice of a
dirty connector with dielectric grease and one that corroded, I'd use the
dielectric grease. For that matter, I use dielectric grease at all
connections in an attempt to put off corrosion.

Subject: Facia Paint
Since my car sat for more then a few years exposed to the elements,
the paint on both the rear and front facias has been severly damaged.
What paint remains looks horrid, but the primer underneath looks
great. My question is does anyone here have any ideas on how to
remove the paint while leaving the primer in place? The like the
color of the primer better, but even if I did decide to repaint I'd
at least like the facias to look somewhat uniform for the time being.
I prefer the look of flat paint over shiny clear coats since I live
in the desert. I wash my car, but I don't always polish it. Last time
I did with SS cleaner I ran into a dust storm...

We don't, nor do I believe that any of the other DeLorean parts dealers,
offer an in-line fuse holder replacement. We recommend the Heavy Duty
in-line Fuse Holder # 782-2023 available at your local NAPA dealer.

Well you seem to have a tough problem. Assuming all of the parts you
replaced were the correct ones and that none of the new ones were
defective and you did it correctly then we can also assume that the
problem wasn't in any of the origional parts that you replaced since
you haven't touched the problem. This is a perfect example of "replace
till we fix it, we don't have to try to diagnose". At this point
instead of testing all of the parts you replaced we could try to start
troubleshooting directly unfortunatly the single most important device
to use is something you don't have. You need to put a fuel system
pressure tester on the system and observe the fuel pressures at the
time of the symptoms. I will guess you have a 5 speed so the
deceleration problem is caused by the rapid reduction of the
throtttle. That may be normal depending on the severity. If you have
an automatic then check out the vacum modulater and vacum lines to it.
For the "light throttle" if you mean accelerating at part throttle
then a possiblily is the control pressure regulater or the metering
unit itself. Again a vacum leak will cause this and there are many
connections under the intake manifold that you can't see. Another
possibility is a problem in the fuel tank like a hole in the pickup
hose, loose or incorrect baffles, kinked pickup hose etc. Sucking air
at a critical time would lower fuel pressure and cause the car to
"hiccup".Please post to the group so we can follow your progress and
offer more suggestions and see what the cause was.One more thing to
check, on the intake there are 3 adjusting screws, make sure they are
all LIGHTLY seated in, they are not to be used to adjust idle, the
idle motor does that. Also make sure the vent hose on the control
pressure regulater is not kinked or plugged up.
