Super small hands and lots of strength help. But, don't forget
to remove the console access panel. If you don't get someone

Subject: DML: JZD letter
I have a copy of what appears to be a letter written to Mr. Jack
Balderston
of DeLorean World Magazine, dated October 4, 1996 from John DeLorean.
Having only had my car a few months, I do not have back issues of DeLorean
World. I am wondering if anybody has seen this published, and if not I
would be happy to send a copy to anyone who would like to read it.
The letter begins:
I must say you have finally exhausted my patience with your
unsubstantiated headline articles, "The Rise and Fall of John Z. DeLorean"
and "Busted Dream" both written by people with no knowledge, no
understanding and little interest in the truth. The mere existence of your
organization is a tribute to the success of our project...
In the letter, JZD professes to have been targeted by the Conservative
Party in power in the UK during the early eighties. By declining to afford
export financing they effectively made it impossible for DMCL to maintain
a
steady supply circle. When a minor shipping strike occurred between
Belfast
and the mainland, cash flow was brought to a standstill and DMC was unable
to credit their suppliers.
The end of the letter includes a promise to repay all DMC investors 250%
of
their capitol, and a reference to the $18-28,000 DII with some incredible
performance predictions.
I have good reason to believe that this letter is authentic, and it goes
on
for 5 pages. If anyone has issues of DeLorean World shortly after October
1996 and would be willing to look for an indication that they published
it,
I would be grateful.

Subject: DML: D1 Experience
I'm not one to usually go off in public about my bad experiences, but
after
the call I made today I need to vent.
Called DeLorean One this morning: All I wanted was to set up a future time
that I could drive it down there for them to look at it. The guy on the
phone absolutely refused to accommodate me in any way. He kept telling me
how busy they were, and I kept insisting that I could bring it down
whenever he wanted. Then he insisted that it was going to cost me too
much,
$250 minimum just to get his mechanic to walk over to the car, and I told
him that it wasn't a problem. Then he proceeded to tell me that I wasn't
going to be able to leave it there long enough for them to thoroughly look
at it, after I had already said I could leave it for as long as they
liked.
So he kept trying to give me this other garage's phone number, which kind
of defeats the purpose of driving 350 miles to the "DeLorean Specialists".
I was so livid after going around and around with this guy, I neglected to
get his name and call his manager (assuming he isn't the manager). I ended
the conversation by telling him that I was sorry I ever called, and that
he
was the most ridiculous person I have ever spoken with.
These guys should know that they have a limited pool of customers. It
seemed to me that he just didn't want my business no matter how much I
would pay or how convenient I could make it for them. This guy was rude,
condescending, and downright obnoxious. I am kind of curious if anybody
has
had similar experiences, or if I caught this guy on a REALLY BAD day, or
if
we just had some weird cosmic personality conflict that turned him into an
incredible jerk.
D1 has absolutely lost any business I could have given them. I've had the
car about a month and am in the process of alot of work, none of which D1
is going to benefit from. Rob Grady has been absolutely great to me, and
will get the entirety of my business at any price.
Thanks Doc, how much do I owe you?

If I'm reading it right, it looks like you should be able to drop a 3.0L,

The next questions are; where can we get Renault/Alpine A610 engines,
will

If you really want to get carried away, the list includes a Venturi 450HP

Duke, you do NOT want to tap the plug hole with the head in place.
The metal chips will go into the cylinder and score it. Also the chips
can migrate throughout your engine and get into the bearings.
If the threads are stripped, you will need to remove the head and take
it to a machine shop. If there is room, they can machine out the old
threads and put an insert in that then can be threaded for your spark
plug.
Duke, give me a call at home, you have my number.

You're right. The head has got to come off the car but while your fixing
this particular problem you need to diagnose why the engine pre-ignited on
that particular cylinder. Especially with enough force to literally blow
the spark plug out of the head! I have an 8 second nitrous street car
along
with my DML and I have never had that happen. Believe me I thought that I
had seen it all. You also might have the hardness of the head checked on
that particular head while it is off. It should pop somewhere in the
neighborhood of 160 on the Rockwell scale. If not, have it
re-heat-treated.
It sounds like it has gotten soft. Sorry the message is so long. :o(

Been there Done that... :-)
Remove the spindle bolt on the left wheel. The right angle drive will
come
off with that bolt. The problem is, is that the angle drive is connected
to
that bolt with an expansion ring. Basically If you try to remove the
angle
drive from the bolt you will break it. Especially without the right tool.
Usually you just buy a new spindle bolt when putting on the new right
angle
drive. Contact Rob Grady at PJ Grady for more additional help. He also
does a good job strengthing new angle drives.

Nothing will blow the plug out of the hole, not preignition or nitrus
oxide, it will take the top of the piston out first.
Someone overtorqued the plug at some time and stripped the threads.
Possibly some of the other plugs were stripped too.

The reason I asked, after looking at the picture of the poster in an

as if the entire poster was created in saying: DeLorean, Cocaine!
I mean, what would a DeLorean be doing in a mountain of snow in
the first place. I can't think of any good reason why. What does
a DMC have to do with winter?
And the title, Blizzard of the Eighties. To me, that makes a
reference to the DeLorean Trial in some ways.
I don't know, does anybody else have any opinions?

Subject: DML: Web page and headlight covers
After a long night with AOL, the corrected site for the Grand Ole Opry DMC
photos is http://members.aol.com/ABatt10347/DMC1.html
The extra photo site ( ones that would not fit on 1st page) is
http://members.aol.com/ABatt10347/DMC2.html
Now to my question does anyone know of a company that still sells the
darken
covers for the headlights? If so how much do they go for and how do they
attach?
Thanks for the answers.

Bruce
Both Teri Jennings and John Truscott used to sell them. I had a pair on
my
old D - the John Truscott variety. They attached with velcro. I had them
on for several years. I did replace the velcro a couple of times -
washing
does cause the "glue" side to lose its tackiness after a while.
Teri advertises in the DeLorean World and Truscott is the membership
chairman for the DOA. I'm at my store now so don't have their addresses
or
numbers handy.
They *DO* cut down on the light emitted. I always removed them at night.

Subject: DML: Bulbs
I was wondering if anyone has a cross reference number for the bulbs =
that illuminate the A/C panel. The part number is 48 =3D SP10307 in the =
parts book under Section 7 Sub 3 GRP 0 . There are also other bulbs =
that are used for the 'door lock', 'fan fail', and 'rear defrost' When =
I took the bulbs out, they're identical yet the part manual shows 2 =
different part numbers. The other part number being 49 =3D SP10310 =
which is what all my bulbs look like; not like the above part # =
(According to the picture anyway) Does anyone have any info on this??
Thanks in advance,
Duke

Subject: DML: The DeLorean, The D-2, and The Bug
The Automobile Show is in Cleveland this week, and I spent a few hours
there on Saturday. It was a little smaller than in the past, and a few
marques (notably Porsche & Hummer) were completely missing this year.
By far the biggest hit of the whole show was the new VW Bug. Amid
the exotic sports cars, decadent luxury cars, and overloaded conversion
vans, the biggest crowd was constantly around a single specimen of the
new Bug, displayed beside its 1960's counterpart.
There were car collectors and VW groupies gathered around, and I
spoke to some of them. They told me that recently the value of used
Bugs has shot through the roof! They believe that the release of the
new Bug has helped to stir up the market for the old Bug. With so many
buyers clamoring for Bugs, it has become a seller's market!
As the Bug collectors spewed affection for their beloved VW, I
wondered to myself if release of the D-2 (John DeLorean's fabled new
project) might have a similar effect on DeLorean prices.
Comments, anyone?

If this were to happen, I only hope I can save up enough to get a
DeLorean now, before prices jump and won't be able to purchace my dream
car. Anyone who would like to give to my "DeLorean" fund is more than
welcome.
I also hope that if a renewed intrest in DeLoreans were to come about
that it would be with people who love the car and not just because it's
the "thing to do" and/or a "good investment" , 'cause people like me may
never see one of their own in their garage & on the road.
