If you wanna keep a stock look but wanna have the dials glow, check out some
UV reactive "transperant" paints by ROSCO paints. [available by theatre
supply] I use this stuff in the theatre environment, it is invisible by
standard light (daylight) but is highly UV reactive, meaning that someone
w/a couple hours and an arts and crafts paintbrush could create a dial that
glows in different respective colours by night but is invisible by daylight.

Please not that eGroups just made some drastic changes in their Web
interface. You may see some screwy things while the moderators get it
figured out. for example there are a bunch of messages that were posted over
the past few days in queue again, so I'm going to reject them all to clean
it up. I believe all have been moderated already.
I'm not sure how other things behave, i.e. reject notes etc, so please no
hard feelings if something gets rejeted by accident. This may take a few

I have noticed More than one person talking about putting new tires
on their Delorean, and Most are talking about putting "yokohama"
tires on.
In my opinion, yokohama is an inferior tire when compared with
Firestone, Goodyear, BFG,etc... I believe that the Delorean is very
deserving of something that will give it a little better performance
and so what if it costs slightly more? I would pay 100 dollars more
per tire if it would allow higher mileage, and roadhazard warranty. I
would really like the look of a firestone firehawk on a Delorean.
Bold white letters and all.

For those of you in or near Winston-Salem, NC there will be a British car
show on the weekend of April 28th-30th. It is called "The Gathering" and it
is hosted by the Triumph Club of the Carolinas, all British cars invited.
There will be a participants choice car show on Saturday the 29th, which is
what I am considering attending (cost $15). In addition there will be a
Saturday evening banquet, auction, and autocross event, among many other

The Key word here is RUST,rust on the frame you do not want(surface
rust is ok,rustthru is not)rust on a Delorean frame,is the kiss of
Death,or at the least your bank account,it is very time consuming to
replace the Delorean frame and unless you get the car for a very
reasonable price it will cost more to repair than to just get a
Delorean with a rust free frame.I would say pass that car up,if you
do not know how to work on a Delorean or do not have the tools or
means to support such a project.

I guess idealy you would want to go to a DMC specialist but I would imagine that any qualified car appraiser in your area would do. Try a car museum or you could get 3 or so letters of appraisal from different sources (used car dealers) to give them a range of what the car would bring RETAIL.

I personnally feel that Yokohama makes a superior high performance tire.
They have been in the business for many years and are very well respected
in the performance and racing circles.
While BFG, Michelin, and all the rest do of course make some very good
tires, I would not hesitate to rank Yokohama brand tires right up there
with them. Ask some local road racers, or log on to a performance
discussion board on the Internet and ask about Yokohama tires and you will
receive very favorable reviews.
As far as mileage goes, this is not a factor of how expensive the tire is,
but of the rubber compound. Yokohama specializes in performance tires, and
performance tires normally do not last as many miles due to the softer
rubber compounds. Road hazard warranties are quite often offered by the
shop that installs the tires rather than the manufacturer, and I know I've
seen them offered with Yokohama tires.
I have run Yokohama tires on a number of cars, including the current set on
my DeLorean, and I've been very satisfied with them.

Hello,
When I purchased my DMC it had hundreds of wires in the trunk for a HUGE
sound system that was once in it. I have been carefully following the wires
around and removing them because I have no use for them anymore. I just want
to go back to the original radio system. I see that the rear craig
powerplays have been disconected and the front two have been replaced by
something else. I just want my radio to play with nice sound quality. I
don't need my car to bounce off of the ground or anything like that. I am
going to replace all of the speakers because mice have made houses in them:(
Are the original powerplay speakers any good? or should I replace them with
something else? I just don't want a fuzzy sound when I play them loud.
A kind member of the DML gave me a craig stereo that is in perfect
condition for FREE! I am trying to figure out how it hooks up. I bet there
are over 35 wires coming out where the radio fits into the dash, I beleive
most go to the CD changer that was once somewhere. I think I have found the
original wires that go to the craig player, I have a white wire
connector(with around 12-15 wires) and 2 large black wires. Are those the
only ones I need? or are there others? I also see that the car alarm was
connected to the radio and headlights. The alarm is also coming out because
it is impossible to hook up if I dont have the diagram. I am getting kinda
confused with all of this. The whole dash and console will be coming out
soon so I can remove the rest of this junk. Please email me if you have any
ideas for my radio.
ONE MORE question. when removing the plastic panel that sits in front of
the rear speakers, how do you get it off with keeping that little black strip
that runs under the weather stripping? I tried to on one side but I ended up
ripping it off of the panel. I dont think this will show very much but would
still like to know if there another way to do this?

I have a question for anyone with a Delorean. Im 21 years old and have wanted a DMC for about a year. My parents agreed to co-sign for a DMC but I'm scared because the car is gonna suck alot of my funds up. Im worried that I'm gonna have to invest $1000's a year just to keep it run. I can pay for a car and maybe another $1000 for some work. But this mechanic says there gonna be a constant cost. So my question is, can a DMC be a reliable piece of transportation. --We no longer have the ability to reject messages. If a Moderator rejects a
message, it just gets deleted. Maybe that's good, i.e. no more "feeling of
rejection". This may change, but it seems to be how it functions now. It
also means that moderators can't comment directly into rejections.
--Any attachments will be stripped off the incoming email. This has two
impacts:
1. The archives will be a lot cleaner. No HTML gibberish (I hope).
2. If you are using an email program, such as Netscape, that codes your mail
into an HTML attachment and does not sent the text in line, the moderator
will get a BLANK posting that will go right into the bit bucket. If you are
doing this YOU NEED TO TURN IT OFF. A set of directions are located at
http://www.rootsweb.com/rootsweb/listowners/html-off.htm It's not difficult.
Please check your emailer if you are not sure. An added benefit is that your
mailing time will speed up - text messages are a lot shorter to send than a
bunch of formatted and decorated stuff that no one can see anyway.

I asked my insurance agent... who was asking for the appraisal for "stated
value" insurance. I'm sure the bank who wants the appraisal can likewise

I am in the middle of disassembling all of the stuff to get to the water pump. I was a little nervous about doing this job myself, but in examining the situation (and with the manual as a reference), it actually looks pretty easy. Anyway, here are my questions:
Note: the following #'s and descriptions are listed/labeled in Section 1, Subsection 4, Group 1 in the Parts Manual
In-between the Throttle Valve assy (#10) and the Mix Unit Lower Housing (#9) is the Lower Housing to Throttle Valve assy Gasket (#11). Securing this gasket in place (onto the Mix Unit Lower Housing) are 4 M6 Cap Screws with washers (#12 and #13). When I removed this part, there were additional flat washers in-between the Mix Unit Lower Housing (#9) and the Gasket (#11). The Parts Manual does not show these washers, so I assume that these washers were installed at some time as shim for some unknown (to me) reason. Should I replace anything - like this Gasket? Should I put the "shim" flat washers back in place?
Also, when I removed the Inter Inlet Manifold (#49), the Throttle Valve assy (#10) could be moved a little relative to the Mix Unit Lower Housing (while it was still secured in place). Should this occur and if so, how much? The reason for this question, is that the "shim" flat washers may have allowed the Throttle Valve assy to move more than it should.
