If the car drives alright when warm DO NOT touch the mixture
adjustment. It sounds like you have a problem in 1 of the control
circuits involved in the warm-up of the car. You have to make sure the
idle circuit is functioning and also the lambda is buzzing happily.
Next you might have a problem with the control pressure regulater AKA
warm-up regulater. It is on the left valve cover. Check that the vent
hose isn't kinked or plugged up. It is the short "U" shaped hose that
goes nowhere.
Your car is not a "preproduction" car but it IS a very early car. The
first production car was 500 so yours is the 114th car to be produced
which doesn't make it any more valuable, it is just a very early
production 81. In that regard you should check that it has had the
recalls and updates that the early cars required.
The clicking could be anything from a stone in a tire (or maybe even
a nail) to a problem with the speedometer cable to a problem with a
brake pad in one of the calipers.

I have seen a set of TABs on specialtauto.com which are supposed to be
better than the NOS ones. (They are certainly newer!) I can't recall at
the moment what their construction is, but they're more available than
the Toby TABs.

Hello Group,
This year's Spokane Lilac Parade will be on May 17th, and I need some
folks to join myself and other members of the Pacific Northwest
Delorean Club to show off our cars!
Right now, our only obstacle is that they only want entries
from "Classic and Antique" cars, their classification of Classic is
1976 and earlier. However, I will be appealing to the Parade Board to
lift that regulation for our unique cars. Here's the catch: We need
at LEAST 6 cars for them to even consider our entry!
If you live in the region and would like to come up for the weekend
for the parade and other fun events (to be named later), please e-
mail me ASAP. I will be appealing to the Lilac Parade Board on the
6th of February.

..FYI, there are some nice LED light sticks on Ebay for use as a high
mounted brake light. With the addition of a spacer this could go
under a louver and clear the rib. It's lightweight, adheasive
mountable and adjustable for directing the brightest light to the
rear. This adjsutability means it could also be mounted many other
places like on the grill behind the louver or even inside the rear
window. I just put one on mine at it looks great. Cheaper than the
corvette or SUV GM ones also. Search on "36 LED Light Stick" to find
it.

hey all,
two questions.
1. i put my battery back in my car yesterday and as i tried to put the
cables on it, the terminals sparked quite a bit. the ignition was off and i
have a courtesy light override, so i don't think there should be any draw to
cause sparking. any ideas? what does this mean?
2. after doing that, i tried to start my car and it wouldn't start. first i
suspected a low battery. so i put a charger on it and let it charge
overnight. i came back this morning and the charger was still going at about
1/2 an amp which should be fully charged, right? well i tried starting it
again - same thing.
both times i tried starting it, the starter sounded kind of sluggish, like
the engine wasn't turning as fast as it should be, even with a confirmed
fully charged battery. i have been running lots of stereo wires since i
started it last, mostly in the battery compartment and running wires thru the
relay compartment (but not doing any splicing or anything, just fishing them
thru). anyway i have checked all my fuses and they are all good, and the car
ran 100% perfect when i started it last - i haven't even been in the engine
bay since then.
i have 10w40 oil in the engine right now. it has been between -5degF and
15degF for the last two weeks - it was about 2degF last night when i tried to
start it. my dad says that it's probably that the oil is so cold and thick
that it's keeping the engine from turning fast enough. is that really
possible?
obviously i know my way around the car but i'm not going to do any
diagnostics if this is a reasonable cause. i would assume that is
appropriate since both times i tried starting it, even with a fully charged
battery, the car turned about 80% as fast as it usually does. probable
cause? i find it hard to believe but i am not an expert!

They provide collector/show car insurance given that the vehicle is used as
a collector or show car (also must be garage kept). There are yearly mileage
limitations though (like 2K mi. p/yr). The last time I was quoted, rates
were anywhere from $300 - $500 annually. I do not own a D yet but I began
shopping for insurance prior to getting my hands on one. Cost is of concern
to me because this would be my third car and I'm already paying some of the
highest insurance rates in the country because I live in New Jersey.

I purchased one of Dave's TAB Kits years ago. It is one of those
things I always thought the original design should have included. It
does require some drilling (no big deal) If a TAB should ever come
lose or break it is caught by a bracket support. No major
destruction or loss of control. It is good insurance TOBY TAB or
regular TAB.

Funny you should mention this car. I went to see it about 3 years
ago when my freind, who passes by it as he walks to the train
station, realized I was interested in Deloreans.
It was a real shame. Nothing about it was worth the effort of
restoring it. The owner had bought it when the Back to the Future
movies came out. Infact this guy bought 2 Deloreans figuring he
would see a good return on his penny when they became more
in demand. He sold one, and let this one sit and sit...
When I saw it, he was still thinking about 13k. This guy lived in a
real dream world! I spoke with the mechanic of the shop and he
pointed out all the mechanical stuff wrong with it... the entire fuel
system. Of course the interior was a mess. There was even a
birds nest in the engine bay.
The epoxy on the frame was flaking off along with rust. When the
owner came to meet me, I told him he killed this car by letting it
sit out. I gave him some numbers which tallied up over 7 grand
on parts alone.
It was realy sad.... I told him to sell it for parts. A week or 2 later is
was gone, so I'm not sure if he junked it or what, but be glad you
didn't get involved with it!

Darkstar,
I have a twin turbo apart in Morgan Hill, Calif.. The alternator was
mounted where the A/C compressor was and the Compressor is relocated to
drive off the front of the right hand camshaft via an added pulley. When I
took it off I remember the alternator install being relatively basic. I
have not really addressed these issues yet in my rebuild process so don't
really know much. I do have the original installation instructions for the
conversion however.

Andy, If the starter solenoid is engaged or stuck in a position that there is
a short you will get the spark and the current draw. But if it loosens and
the starter drags when trying to start, even in cold weather, then it's
replacement time. Brushes are worn and sludge has built up inside to make it
do that.

What is age of the battery? Cold weather is EXTREMELY hard on them.
Doesn't take much to kill a marginal one. Did you try jump starting?
Remember -- if battery is DEAD dead, even 4 GA jumper cables may not
be enough.
Check that you didn't dislodge starter relay while routing through
relay compartment (rear row, second from outside).

1. i put my battery back in my car yesterday and as i tried to put the
cables on it, the terminals sparked quite a bit. the ignition was off and i
have a courtesy light override, so i don't think there should be any draw to
cause sparking. any ideas? what does this mean?
2. after doing that, i tried to start my car and it wouldn't start. first
i
suspected a low battery. so i put a charger on it and let it charge
overnight. i came back this morning and the charger was still going at about
1/2 an amp which should be fully charged, right? well i tried starting it
again - same thing.

I am also willing to prepay for a set of toby tabs. I said I was
going to buy a set last time, but didn't because I heard that you had
to move the transmission to install them on an automatic. But it
seems there is an easier way so I will try it.

does any one have a picture of a defroster switch taken apart? I thought i
saw somewhere instructions to rebuild it but can't find it now. anyone know
of this site?
Also, after i re installed my dash i noticed that my temp gauge doesn't
work. it just points straight down... any ideas??

your first question: its a problem with the warm up regulator, probably
you need a new one.
second: check your brake pads. re-install them with copper-based
anti-seize compound

Hi group, my name is Lasse and I'm a DeLorean addict.
Since I can't afford a DeLorean quite yet, I thought I might as well spend the waiting time on something usefull, so I'm currently planning on making a Danish DeLorean website. I know we have a couple of D's here, I even saw one for reel once, but for some reason there has newer existed a Danish fanclub or fanwebsite (or perhaps they hid it really well), and thats a shame. People usually know the car from BTTF, but often they also know too many of them darn incorrect rumors, that is spread through TV and such. I wan't to enlight my people! But I could use a bit of help from the groups - I was wondering if anyone have some photomateriel I could borrow? (I didn't want to take it from your webpages without asking first!)

Check the rear brake pads. We have seen/heared that on several cars,
especially
on the right side. My one isn't that bad, but my friends car does it really
bad clic click click click.....
For your cold start problem I guess the mixture is not rich enough ?!?
