I agree, what more can be said on this subject here on the list, the subject has run it's course so I'll end it here. Bruce Benson, this week's moderator) WHAT? We should be happy because the DeLorean simply got a mention on their show, no matter what kind of comments were made?!? That is in no way acceptable! I get engouh attention in my own car that I don't need to "beg for crumbs" by having someone run some footage of the car on TV. I have put a great deal of love into my car, and have gotten back an even greater amount of pride in return. So for some mongloid that calls themselves an actor to simply rip my car apart in the feeble attempt to gain attention for themselves, I take great offence because that really does hurt me! Occurances such as this program should not be ignored. We should contact those people who are responsable and let them know how we feel. Let it be known that it isn't acceptable. As far as Quentin Wilson is concerned, he is not an expert. Just as many descriptions on the internet state, he is simply a presenter on a television show. Quentin Wilson is to the automotive world what Bob Villa is to homebuilders. He's just an actor on a television show wearing a mic, and reading a script. That's all. His case though is a bit differant than most. His is not a case of typical ignorance, the man seems to have an outright vendetta against the DeLorean. Why, I've no idea. Maybe he tried to buy one once and got turned down for financing. Who knows. In any case he is yet another person trying to negativly exploit the DeLorean image for whatever gains. Both JZD, and the DMC-12 are popular icons, albeit not the most mainstream. And that of course is the the downside. Because of such an amount of negative press over the years, it is assumed that these are subects that should be lambasted. Awareness is good, but it only goes so far. It's easier to change a law than it is a tradition. So, what I propose that we should do is make it "Politicly Incorrect" to say anything negative about the either the man, or the car. If someone comes up with an inaccuracy, not only correct them, but educate them in a way so that they will *want* to learn more (explaining the underbody process/design is a quick way to accomplish this). And if someone throws an off color remark at you about the car, don't be afraid to tell them it wasn't funny, and that you don't appriciate it. If diplomacy is being able to tell someone that they're going to hell in such a way that they look forward to the trip, then it should be no problem to plant the seed of self-doubt in someone who just told you that offensive comment that they should feel somewhat guilty about what they just said. I know this is something pretty heavy to say, but a good numer of people here appear to feel the same way. There is more to say about the subject, and if you'd like to know shoot me an e-mail off the list. -Robert vin 6585 "X" ________________________________________________________________________ ________________________________________________________________________ Message: 2 Date: Wed, 18 Dec 2002 20:25:14 -0600 (Central Standard Time) From: "dmc83n99@xxxxxxxxxxxxx" <dmc83n99@xxxxxxxxxxxxx> Subject: Re: BTTF video release Can't speak about too many other stores, but Best Buy in Pensacola definately went all out for the BTTF release. We put up stantion ropes around my DMC and put it on the front sidewalk advertising the release. Definately got a rouse out of the Christmas crowd. The thought just came to me that with Universal showing the in- theatre promo for the Back To The Future DVD set in front of Lord Of The Rings the next three weeks, we could probably get quite a few groups of interested admirers to flock around by conspicuously parking our cars outside the theatres. Great opportunity then to correct a few persistant false public conceptions about the D, just by chatting with people, or by passing out imformational handouts about the car (is that printable tri-fold brochure still up on the DMC News website to download?) Not that I've got the time to spare to actually go out & do this, but for someone with the free time, and the inclination to do it... You know come to think of it I never saw any images plastered in front of Wal-Mart when Crocodile Dundee or the Die Hard Trilogy was released either... Guess they dropped the ball on that one too huh. Episode II and Spiderman were major blockbusters from last year. Seriously, lets not forget this is a 15+ year old movie series. This is not some earth shattering movie trilogy released, just one of many released each week. I have not been able to open my discs since they are a x-mas present, but I really don't care if there is any printing on the discs at all, just let me know which disc is which. Any other problems will have to wait until next week, unless I can get the misses to let me open them early. Was it worth the wait? No.... I think these Discs don't have a lot to offer REAL fans. For all the time we waited, the extras are minimal (outtakes, and deleted scenes were not all that fantastic), the work that was put into the layout, extras, and cover art were lacking severely and the actual printing of the images on the physical disc was lacking severely! For something that was five years in the making...why does it seem like this done quick and dirty? When Star wars episode II and Spiderman came out earlier this year, all the major stores (Wal Mart, etc.) and video stores had images PLASTERED on the windows and in their flyers. I drove past several video stores yesterday on the way home, and saw NO sign of BTTF. :( I think the release was not handled well by Universal. They did little to promote it other then a few TV spots that ran in the past 5-7 days. In light of recent negative publicity, here is something to cheer everyone on the list here up. On the way home from work, I stopped by Wal Mart and picked up a copy of BTTF Widescreen Edition DVD set. In a nutshell, it was really money well spent! DeLorean specific, I've never seen another production that puts the DMC into a more positive light. Especially the interview with Bob Gale on the use of a DeLorean for the movie. There are quite a few concept drawings of how they were looking at modifying the car (all quite astounding!), and a segment at the end where Bob Gale reads off a thank-you/fan letter from John DeLorean himself stating how pleased he was with the use of the car in the original movie. The negative side is that you can really tell that the producers were strapped for space on the DVD discs. The DeLorean, and other "making of", and behind the scenes segments seem to be divided between the discs. While very informative about the car durring the pop-up animations about the car's facts, there was only one descrepincy. And that was the 4-cylinder engine fact. I don't know if this was a typo, or stating what the cars were replaced with. In any case, this is nothing compared to the rest of the information contained on the DVD's. Many accurate, and positive facts about the car are presented within. The movies of course are great! The sharpest video and audio I've ever seen the movies in. The brushed stainless steen sheen on the car is beautiful as you can see in the footage of BTTF1. I must now figure in on having my car reburnished one day to get it to look like that! And the clairity when pausing still images of the movie. I've always been told that my wheels look great when spinning, but now that I've really seen them upclose in a still image, they are amazing! They create the illusion that the wheels are solid, and the niches in the spokes really define the lines! Now that I've finally seen this upclose, and clearly, I'll never consider swapping my wheels out again for a custom set. You really have to see it to know what I mean. Obviously if you're any kind of a fan of the movies, the DVD set is a must have (avoid the VCD's on eBay). The info pop-ups pointed out details in the movies that I've never even seen before! But even if you're not, I would still reccomend the set as an essential addition to any DeLorean collection for the material contained within. Just make sure that you get the proper set. There is a Widescreen Edition, and a seperate Fullscreen Edition for what ever your tates are. With the info pop-ups, and all of the voiceover commentary, it'll probably take me about a week to fully cover all the content on the discs. And I still need to get a DVD-ROM drive on top of that! But, the big question: Was it worth the wait for the discs? Yes! ;) -Robert vin 6585 "X" To address comments privately to the moderating team, please address: moderators@xxxxxxxxxxx To search the archives or view files, log in at http://groups.yahoo.com/group/dmcnews Your use of Yahoo! Did they refuse to cover any damages because of being a DeLorean? Did you have your work done at a DeLorean facility? I'm about 30 miles from Don Steger, I want him to make repairs. Any advice would greatly be appreciated.
