Geez, how is that 308 to work on? That's a car on my "to-do" list. Working on the DMC
should be a breeze after having done so on the Esprit, since you're already accustomed
to the funny suspension and underrated electricals. :-)
The DeLorean car has a few well-documented weak spots (trailing arm bolts, etc.) that
are pretty simple to check and correct. Other than that, it's been a fairly reliable
car for me and others.
The last thing you'll need to fret over is the engine, unless you want to tinker the HP
up (and I imagine you will, given your other vehicles). It all seems straightforward
enough until you get to something like adjusting the torsion bars on the gullwing doors,
which requires special tools, at least two other people and, at minimum, a half-case of
beer.

Jeff, a few weeks ago I financed mine though JJ Best & Co out of
Chatham MA. It was a slam dunk and only took two days. I insured
through Esurance.com (equally painless) at the advice of a DMC fan
page. My favorite so far has been the $15/yr. registration fee in CA -
who would have thought ANYTHING would be so cheap in this state? :)

Thought I would let everyone know the DeLorean will be mentioned in an
upcoming series on VH1 called, "I love the 80's". The car will be mentioned

When I first saw a DeLorean "in the wild", it was 1983... coming down
the steep hill towards my house in about a foot of snow. One of my
neighbors had purchased his D as his "winter car". His reasoning? It
was rear-engine, rear-drive, with a wide, low wheelbase -- perfect for
the snow. He also stated that since it was stainless steel, it would
not rust from the salt (I guess he never looked underneath!)
Anyway, he drove that car for several years just in the winter, and to
the best of my knowledge, he never had any problems.

As it happens this outfit is less than 5 minutes from the Diesel Centre where #1458 and
#2727 were nursed back to health, and where #4426 has already been to have its engine
pulled for rebuild. (Staplehurst is a small village about 5 miles from my home town).
The PRV-6 came in many, many flavours. The problem with the DeLorean's one is largely
with the injection/ignition. I had already investigated the possibilities for #4426's new
engine, but although the costs were more than reasonable, not worth it to me at this
point in time. 220hp is about achievable with a good exhaust, keeping the stock k-jet,
capacity and ignition system. If you want to modify, the PRV is actually a lot better
than you'd think. Mail me off-list for info if interested.

What is the price on your North Carolina Delorean? And what condition is it
in? I'm looking for a real project car; something to be totally taken apart
and customized from the ground up. It really doesn't work for me to buy one
that is already in good shape.
Actually this question can go out to the whole group...does anyone know
where to buy a real wreck of a D for cheap...ideally the body and frame
would be pretty straight but mechanically who cares.

I'm looking into a little protection for my seats. They're in relatively good shape (a few scratches, no cracks) and I'm looking into seat covers to keep it that way. What's the consensus on seat covers? Basically I'm thinking of the Pepboy's grade covers for the car, what do you guys think of them? Any recommendations?
