I could be wrong, but it looks like your replacement lower cable is the culprit; the inner cable is twisted the wrong way, causing the cable to unwind when in use. If the inner cable was twisted the other way around it would actually TIGHTEN itself internally when under stress... The wobbly AD-cable is quite common and most likely caused by it being too long. There are a couple of good tips on fixing this in the archives, it's also a good idea to lube this cable too when you're doing your yearly AD-lube. Just remove the wheel and cap and squirt a bit of quality oil into the hole around the cable... Good luck, JAN van de Wouw Thinking Different... Using a Mac... Living the Dream... THERE > ARE and NEVER WERE ANY PAINTED DELOREANS FROM THE FACTORY. Lemme tell There never were any painted from the factory, that is true. The factory didn't have the facilities there to do painting, for one. However, there were some cars which were contracted out by the factory to be painted by a contractor, as DMC was planning to sell painted cars. A couple years ago DMC Houston found some tan interior pieces in the warehouse marked to be used with painted cars. I don't know whether DMC shipped body panels to be painted and then assembled them at the factory, or whether they shipped completed cars to the contractor. I don't even know who the contractor was. It is possible that you got one of these factory-authorized-painted cars, which would be an interesting collector piece. It's also possible that the car was painted by the dealer, as you concluded; that's most likely. Either of those could have accounted for the car being marked as red on the original title. ________________________________________________________________________ ________________________________________________________________________ Message: 3 Date: Sat, 21 Sep 2002 02:15:42 -0000 From: "Shain Brannan" <shain@xxxxxxxxxxxx> Subject: Re: RE: twin turbo Hello, I have always wanted to know the answer to that question. Everyone says that the internals to so very diffrent then stock, yet no one really seems to know. There really isn't a whole lot that could really be diffrent. For starters it most likely has much better piston rings, diffrent pistons maybe, and should have stronger rods. Could the cylinders walls be over bored? probably not. The heads could be modified, but i would belive that they would be untouched. The idea in any company is to produce reliable results with as little changes as possible. Increase the piston, rings and rods give it the added strength. Who knows, the motor could stock. - Shain #10140 ________________________________________________________________________ ________________________________________________________________________ Message: 4 Date: Fri, 20 Sep 2002 22:49:56 -0400 From: "C. At the warehouse in Ohio I saw a test panel of S/S with different colors painted on it. The story behind it was that the factory was experimenting with the idea of offering painted panels. The option would be offered as a "drive in in the morning-drive out in the afternoon" deal trading in the origional panels for panels of a different color. The factory NEVER offered painted panels for sale to the public but did at least plan on it. The factory also provided a procedure for painting the S/S panels for dealers that wanted to offer it to their customers. After the end of DMC some cars got painted because the selling dealers thought it might be easier to sell that way. Other cars got painted because of body damage and since the panels were hard to come by for a time it was faster and cheaper to just paint the whole car. Since the S/S is type 304 and is nonmagnetic you can only tell if there is body filler on the panels by either removing the paint or using a sonic tester. Since in my ownership I have had all kinds of problems. finally in from mid March to late May the car ran perfect, no problems, then my AC belt froze. After all that was fixed I found my lower pick up hose literally fell apart in my gas tank. Then I began to have cold start problems. Currently I have the fuel distributor being rebuilt by a well known and very highly mechanic of the area in which I live. He is very experienced with the bosch K injection, and well the DeLorean altogether. Now this car has had many surprises, most common problems I have usually turn out to be something either Very minor or a lot larger. Now the parts I can recall that I replaced has been, Fuel pump, accumulator, thermo time switch, all fuel lines that were bad, warm up regulator, pressure regulator, a full tune up, new brakes, new slide quadrant, new Ac wheel, all new belts, and many more parts. But although my mechanic and I are very much hoping the distributor is bad, and that's it I just want to know if anyone else may have some ideas. The car simply takes about 6 times to start cold. after its going the idle takes about a min or so to smooth out, then you can drive without any other problems, until you hit traffic then the car attempts to over heat, so far this only occurred 3 times, and all times it was near the shop or my home, so it hasn't, yet. I looked at many tech tips, but none had solved my problem. So from any DeLorean past or current owners, if this same situation happened did it turn out to be just the distributor???? ________________________________________________________________________ ________________________________________________________________________ Message: 7 Date: Sat, 21 Sep 2002 00:51:30 EDT From: njp548@xxxxxxx Subject: Re: Need Car Show Material In a message dated 9/21/02 12:50:23 AM Eastern Daylight Time, kkoncelik@xxxxxxx writes: << Right Josh and Nick.
