Switching itself? Not switching when the trigger is reattached? Are
you sure the relay itself isn't sick? Can Rich borrow one of yours...
Re: wiring diagrams -- we all love to reinvent our automobiles (myself
included). Sometimes it's safety. Sometimes it's survival (have you
considered simply switching that relay's trigger from under the dash?)
The down side is we end up with wiring diagrams of dubious usefulness.
Goober, the friendly neighborhood Volvo mechanic, played with my
harness in the engine compartment when he swapped PRV's, but I'm
finding all sorts of electrical surprises in places I don't think
Goober ever went. Of course I'm just making matters worse with hidden
headlight switches (finally fried the dash switch BTW -- thank
goodness for the hidden one), fuel pump activators, etc. But since I
am the last owner the car will ever have, no need to worry about
someone else cussing after me.
My travelling companion had electrical difficulties on last weekend's
trip to get our torsion bars adjusted. I boldly grabbed the wiring
diagrams, opened his chamber of horrors (my pet name for that hostile
territory behind the passenger seat), and said "whoa". Wasn't any
better under the dash. Didn't pull the console, but who knows what
lurked under there. His car has been "modified." We ended up duct
taping a temporary line under the vehicle.
I'd suggest starting with Rich's trigger wire and following it
backwards. Think of it as a treasure hunt (oh boy, fun!).

Could you analyze the sound a bit further? Specifically: is it
constant or variable in pitch, frequency, volume, etc. If variable,
what does it vary with: wheel rotations, engine rotation, vehicle
motion, etc. Be specific about the sound itself: clicking is different
from tapping (compare to other sounds you know). It may help to let
someone else drive the car while you climb around listening.

electrical distributor and work my way backwards. Unfortunately, I
can't even *see* the thing.
Any helpful hints from the school of hard knocks to access a piece of
hardware that has no business being on the backside of my engine (says
a Ford man)? Don't want to remove any more than is necessary. From
where I lean, appears at least fuel distributor and air assembly are
in the way.
Can this operation be performed by braille?

Sometimes I'm a rocket scientist -- it's a wonder I can dress myself
in the morning:
'Been thinking about Rich's predicament. Best place to start might be
the ignition key switch. How many miles are on Rich's car anyway (ever
notice that high mileage cars never seem to have their original
keyswitches). And the key switch on a DeLorean is mercifully
accessible. Won't it be nice to trouble shoot something without yoga
for a change.

I didn't answer this one earlier, because I was hoping that someone might
have pictures on a website of how to get these clips in place - because it
is hard to describe.
First, start by clipping the clips onto the rear brake pads. The middle of
the "spring" clips onto the middle of the top of the brake pad ("top" is
by the holes that the pins go through). The trick is to get the pins going
through the holes in the pads, while getting the ends of the springs to be
on the other side of the pins.
The way I do it is I clip the springs onto the pads and put the pads into
the calipers. Now, tilt the springs in the same direction so that you can
somewhat easily get one pin through. Now you've got to push the other end
of the spring down so that you can get the other pin through. Do these one
at a time, just as the pin is getting ready to go through the hole. It's
best to use a screwdriver or pliars or something to push the spring down -
as it is very tense.
Once you've got it together, you'll realized that the springs are pulling
the pad down against the pins. This way the pads and/or pins can't really
move around and make noise. Try to envision what I've said and it will
soon become very clear. :)

I have mentioned this a couple of times in the mast. The manufacturer is Milford
Microsystems and I spoke to them a short while ago. http://www.milford.ndirect.co.uk/
I also asked the engineer who hopefully will be working on performance upgrades on the
PRV what he thought of this system, and he basically said "it looks like a good product
for a modified engine [Island twin people take note] but it can't compete with a
retro-fitted modern EFI system".
It sits in the control pressure line and can dynamically adjust the control pressure
"fooling" the metering plate to deflect more or less dependent on an electronic map.
Unfortunately the person I spoke to could not confirm whether the ignition control system
would work on our uneven firing engine..

The black box behind the drivers seat is the Idle Speed Control unit. As far as
I know, there shouldn't be a problem at all with swapping this unit out. A while
back I had to troubleshoot my Idle Speed Circuit (turned out to be a bad wire).
And nowhere in any of the diagrams was there any wire connections that
were transmission specific.

I'm not on the European continent but from what they say on thier web site,
these are some of the issues that come to mind.
They want to control the advance curve. This means they'd have to support the
PRV odd fire design, and be willing to deal with a distributor that has both
vac and mechanical advance.
They also appear to use a throttle position sensor (TPS) and (MAP) load
sensor which are the other two items you'd need to install. Once you do all
that, why not just replace the injectors and fuel rails, add an FPR and go
with with real EFI from SDS or MegaSquirt?

Start by removing the six bolts that hold the body to the frame.......:-)
Sorry... Couldn't resist.....
The dist and clutch slave are not easily accessible to say the least. But you
should be able to get to it by removing the allen heads that secure the fuel
dist meter housing assembly to the intake and rocking it up a bit to gain
additional access. The rubber boot that connects it to the throttlebody will
have a small amount of flex in it to allow some movement. Not fun. Or you can
replace the intake like I did, and now I don't have to deal with it any more.
I can actually see my distributor standing at the back of the car.

Almost a year ago I posted that I would work on this project, but
just haven't gotten around to it, until now.
Ok, so how many times have you brought your D to a car show, or
simply stopped anywhere only to have someone jokingly come up to you
and ask: "Where's the Flux Capacitor?"
Well, now you can turn around and point to it! In all it's "fluxing"
glory.
I designed a worthless little display that resembles the Flux
capacitor in the BTTF show. I posted some pictures here on the DML
(under photos) - (sorry, my good camera is not working - so the
pictures are from a poor resolution cheap camera.)
I also uploaded an AVI file of the unit in operation. You can find it
under (Files) on this DML. It's best to just download this short
file, then play it - If you try to play it from it's location,
Windows will make it look like the picture is standing still.
If anybody is interested in how I built this thing - drop me an
email, I'll be glad to share it with you.

here is a problem
Not on my car its for someone else
I think I have an idea what it is so here goes.
The car will not start cold (or hot for that matter)
When starting the car nothing happens.
The fuel tank has been recently changed out and the fuel does flow and seems
to be working ok ( fuel pump working )
If I change the connectors for the cold start fuel injector and energize it
(switch the blue and light green connectors) it starts indicating fuel is
getting in at that point but it does not stay running.
Assumption the fuel distributor may be sticking a bit.
Now if I start the car with the wires switched and give it a little gas pedal
(although this really should not help) it stays running some times. The
starting process may need three four or five times to start.
It runs real rough and sounds like (no pun intended) its not running on all
cylinders.
After maybe 30 seconds to three minutes it begins to clear up and you can hit
the accelerator a bit more and then a bit more.
Then it Revs and the everything is fine and it idles great and you can shut
it off and start it as long as you don't let it set for a few minutes. (five
min. minimum)
Then you repeat the process.
I haven't had time to run fuel pressures or anything like that but I am
assuming it is possible a sticking fuel distributor. The car does no run a
lot.
Wires and plugs are old and will be replaced but if they were totally trash
then the car would not start anyway. (Have the parts and plan to rebuild)
Unlikely water in the distributor cap (Car is in the desert)
I have eliminated the accumulator as it has been replaced not to long ago and
the problem is more a cold start.
The fuel pump appears to be working but I really need to do a pressure check.
The cold start thermal switch is shot, that is a given and why the crossing
of wires works.
Are there any other thoughts at what may cause this.
It appears to be a fuel starvation situation but then it corrects itself and
purrs like a DeLorean with no stalling or hesitation. That is the confusing
part. Teh above problems all would or should continue to persist no matter
how hot it gets.
That is where the distributor theory gets shot down.

Subject: Main Oil Seal Leak
Hi,
My car has been dripping small amounts of oil on the garage floor
recently. After putting the car on a hoist I can see that it is coming out
of the rear Main seal.(parts manual 1/1/4 #23). I checked the pressure
sender switch and that is not what is leaking. What would be the best way
for me to replace this seal? Would it be easier to just remove the engine?
Or can it be done on the car with the rear fascia removed? Any help would be
greatly appreciated. I have been using synthetic oils in the car since I've
had it, maybe that is speeding up the leak?

Subject: Synthetic auto trans fluid
Hi List,
I am going to change my trans fluid soon and I was curious to know if
putting 100% synthetic Amsoil trans fluid in it will hurt anything. It is
fairly pricey but I have been very happy with their stuff in my other cars.
Before I go ahead and do this I just wanted to make sure I am not going to
hurt it.
