Ken,
Be sure to double check the routing of the fuel lines from the fuel
distributor to the injectors. It only takes one or two routed
incorrectly to cause the problem you are having.

I don't quit the list because of misinformation. However, the list
moderators' feeble attempts at recognizing & warning their flock of any such
misinformation has always been a source of amusement.
I quit the list because of unreasonable censorship by "moderators" who use
inconsistent, illogical & precarious standards for what they do.
I quit the list because posts that seem appropriate to many list members are
deleted without notice.
I quit the list because posts that do make it through are sometimes edited
for content in such a way that it changes the author's intent. This is done
without warning from the moderators. Ever consider also inserting the
following warning? [Moderator note - the content of this post has been
modified from it's original form. It has been changed by the whim of
someone who does not clairvoyantly understand the intent of the original
contributor. Any original meaning may be lost.]
I quit the list because the censorship often prevents well-meaning people
from asking appropriate on-topic questions. And when it doesn't, the
censorship often prevents well-meaning people from appropriately responding.
I also quit the list because the "moderators" offer no consolation for their
actions and not only to me but evidently to everyone. They act with
impunity and maintain an attitude that demonstrates this point over and
over. It is not unlike dealing with a child who has been given too much
authority.
The moderators have now completely demonstrated beyond any reasonable doubt
that the DML is at best a sugar-coated anemic forum for "select" posts. The
censorship prevents good people with pure motives from participating in what
would otherwise be an open discussion forum.
If you fail to recognize this, then you probably don't post very often if at
all. And if you are one of the moderators and fail to see this then I
seriously pity you and especially anyone who depends on you for their
personal welfare. If you treat them like you treat the rest of us, you
probably have a very unhappy family if you can keep a family at all. I am
shocked that so many "moderators" working together can all share this same
attitude.

Walter & List,
THIS IS A FRIENDLY MESSAGE!!!!!!!
Don't give up!
Look on the bright side.
Things could be much worse.
Don't let unknown faces ruin your hobby. (It's just a hobby, not a life
or lifestyle)
Don't worry about other people, or whether or not their car approves of
your car sitting next to each other in the parking lot. DeLoreans' are not
human, they don't have feelings, or won't love you back no matter how much
money you throw at them.
Worry about your self & if you are driving a safe automobile.
Think about whether or not you are enjoying your DeLorean hobby & if the
stress of other's opinions really matter to you.
For the guy that want's to drop your DeLorean during an airshow. You
accepted a challenge. Don't quit!!!!!!!
Obviously the pervious owner(s) didn't posses the wherewithal, mental
ability, responsibility, and maturity to live with a high maintenance toy.
Do you want to join their club of quitters, or do you accept the fact
that you are in a very challenging position with your DeLorean, as it is
testing how strong of a person you really are?
Consider this...that which doesn't kill us makes us stronger.

Subject: Re: [Moderator Note] re I quit
As much as I hate to admit it I have to partially agree with Dave.
Every person (read moderator) has a different sense of judgment.
What one moderator might think is good to pass to the list another
may think is worthless. That's where the inconsistency may come in.
If one day all posts came in about a BTTF discussion and then the
next all of them were denied I would assume that there was a change
in guard (read moderator). I to have had posts rejected by the
moderators and have gotten upset about it and even have written to
them in anger. I can understand some of the things that get
moderated out but I cannot understand why others don't. Like Nick
Pittello pointed out there was a post about someone who posted
a "personnel" letter asking how one person was as if he wrote a
casual direct email to that person. Maybe he accidentally posted it
to the DML instead of sending it privately but that should have
been "moderated out" and the person should have been notified. There
will always be someone who disagrees with someone else's judgment,
it's only human and with over 1000+ people reading this list I am
not surprised. As for the gentleman who said that he was upset with
the list and wanted to blow up/drop his D from a high point to get
rid of his "piece of crap" go ahead...your car...your money. I would
like to see one person who owns a 20 year old car, any car, not have
to keep up with it in maintenances. Some arguments on the list are
healthy..just like they are healthy in other relationships...but
stupidity has no place. This list should be set for debates,
modifications, help on repairs, discussions about their experiences,
about vendor experiences, social events, new parts that are
available, etc. (they should all be about the Delorean of course).
If people don't like posts being posted only because their email box
gets cluttered with it then turn off the email in your account. That
way you can just go to the groups site, scroll through all the
subject lines until one catches you attention, click on it and read
it. That way all the posts you may find worthless you won't have to
read..simple as that.
Enough ranting from me,

I hope you are joking about dropping your car from a helicopter, but if
you are indeed hell bent on doing so, I guess all it will do is raise
the value of mine just a bit. No offence, but the word "fool" seems to
keep coming into my mind.
I am not even going to try to argue with you the quality of a DeLorean,
your opinion seems to be set in stone. My personal opinion is that it
takes a certain person to appreciate this automobile. I am sure there
are people who say a Ford Model "T" is a piece of junk, but wouldn't we
all like to have a mint one in our garage simply from a collector
standpoint. IMHO the owners who believe that their cars are junk more
times than not got hosed on their purchase and bought a Junker to begin
with, or wanted a cheap car and thought it would work flawlessly. Kind
of like going to a 2nd hand store to buy a toaster and then get pissed
when it breaks down on them.
I suppose now either I will get banned form the list, or flamed out of
existence, but I just couldn't let this go unanswered.

This list is more entertainment than anything else. For me at least,
it certainly hasn't been a valuable source about owning and
maintaining this heap of junk. I'm considering donating my car for a
tax write off by having it dropped from 2000 feet by helicopter at a
local airshow in October.
Don't even think about asking me to sell it. Nothing will give me
greater satisfaction than to see this POS hit the ground at terminal
velocity. (I would have dynamited it out in the desert but would have
lost even more cash.) No matter what, standby. Film at eleven.
The other issue is ego. There are a lot of folks here who need to get
a life. Its just a car, and not much of one at that.

Subject: radio replacement questions - alpine
I've decided that I can no longer live with the sound of my stock Craig
radio, and I'm looking to upgrade. I need a unit that has an AUX input for
my mp3 player (a Rio Riot - awesome machine btw!). I've found the Alpine
CDA-7892 which looks like it will suit my needs well. I searched the
archives but couldn't find any recent info. Has anyone installed one of the
recent/current Alpine decks, and if so, how hard/easy was it? Any comments
on this particular Alpine deck?
I've also decided to cut up the mounting bracket, rather than buy a new one.
But that raises an interesting question: While the DIN mount brackets are
available ($$$), has anyone thought of making a small bracket to go the
other way? I mean a bracket you could mount in the DIN opening to allow the
stock Craig radio to be re-installed?
thanks,

Hey list, (including Moderators, whom are our fellow list members.)
I don't know how much the moderators are paid to read and labor over each and every post, but you could triple the paycheck and I still wouldn't take the job.
As a member of other lists (non-DeLorean related), I come here to enjoy the civil posts, and absence of flame wars. You can get all the cursing and flaming and downright ignorant remarks in most other forums. If another DeLorean list is created to include these things, add one more to the pile!
(I'd much rather have the option to simply 'subscribe' and 'unsubscribe' from the unmoderated list rather than wearing out a delete button.)
Hardly anyone can argue that the DML is extra-ordinary in this respect.
E-mail is free and easy, producing lots of noise and often taken for granted.
The DML standards are higher than most, at the valuable cost of moderator diligence.
In my opinion, the moderators make all of us 'seem' more intelligent and civilized by editing out the garbage.
Thank you Marty Maier, Mike Substelny, Mike Greise, Bruce Benson, and Knut Grimsrud, for keeping this a nice place, and for making me *think* before I post.
In addition, let's all keep in mind no one is infallible and lister/moderator mistakes do happen, even with the best of intentions.
And consider this: I'm not particularly a gambling man, but numbers do come into play here. The more posts one person submits, the better the odds of something of theirs getting edited or even deleted. -This applies to 'length' of a post too. ;-)

Assuming each of the 13 replies was from a separate DML member, and that
they were all in agreement with you, that makes about 1% of the list. That
leaves 99% (or 1126 people) who don't agree with you enough to tell you

Haven't we covered this before? Each of us joined this list knowing that
all posts must pass through the moderators before they can make it to the
list. If these conditions are so horribly unfair, why join in the first
place? These aren't new rules.
[checksix3]

You quit, yet you're still posting. I'm not sure what dictionary you and
Walt are sharing, but the definition of "quit" is not "to stick around and

Let me get this straight...instead of just selling your car and actually
quitting the DML, your hatred for the DeLorean automobile (and/or the
community associated with it) is so great that you want to destroy your own
car out of spite? Wow, that's messed up.
[checksix3]
> There are a lot of folks here who need to get a life.
> Its just a car, and not much of one at that.
Funny, I was thinking "it's just a mailing list." I mean, come on...an
"oppresive regime" that doles out "appalling censorship"? And now Walt is
questioning whether the moderators can possibly have happy families? What a
shockingly odd perspective on things. Some folks on this list do need to
get a life, checksix3. I'm glad you posted that before you quit. Or after
you quit. Or while you were quitting. Whatever.

Walt,
I have benefited from your "column" and will be sorry to see you quit
the list, or even to quit contributing to it, but I really wish you
hadn't used your "I Quit" thread to "test" the moderators or to impose
your rules on the DML. If you leave the DML (and possibly take a few
others with you), you will be diminishing the DLM's value to those who
remain. If you continue contributing to the list, I'm sure the rest of
us will benefit from it. If not, goodbye. Either way, I would really
like this thread to end (after this post makes it through :-) LOL
List,
Personally, I'm glad that I don't have to read the ~30% that the
moderators screen out. I'm also glad that those emails don't make it to
the archives. The list may be "self correcting", but the misinformation
in the archives lives on forever.
And as for not reading the ones that are offensive to me, how could I
have known that I would find things like "S*IT", or "A**HOLE", or "I'll
drop my car and destroy it unless Walt starts a new list" in an email
without reading it.
It's a tough call for the moderators to weed out the obscene, off-topic,
blatant advertising, etc.. I've even had a few of my posts "disappear".
I just figured the emails didn't even make it as far as the moderators,
so I changed anything that might be considered objectionable, and
re-submitted them. My posts have never been lost or rejected the second
time. No big deal! Really!
Once I quit the list for over a year because of one person who was
responding to almost all of the posts and telling everyone else they
were WRONG! It didn't matter to me that his answers were often "more
correct" than the posts he was criticizing. His methods were offensive
and aggravating (to me and to some others that I discussed it with
off-list). I contacted the moderators, to see if they could request
that the person "tone it down a bit". They told me that there was a lot
of support for the person because he provided valuable information. So I
quit. No big swan song. It just wasn't fun anymore so I quit. A year
or so later, I re-joined the list, and was pleased to see the person was
still providing value to the list, but his posts were much more polite
and "politically correct". Perhaps I had even mellowed out during my
year of absence/abstinence.
After all is said and done, few list members can honestly say that they
haven't benefited significantly from the existence of the DML. The DML
isn't perfect (yet :-), but where would each of the members (and their
cars) be today without it. Each of you need to answer this for
yourselves, and do what you think is right.

I don't know all of the maintenance that needs to be done... here is
what I have done myself:
Oil Change Info (the hard to find plug), specific weights for climates
General Care of the Exterior Stainless Steel (solvents to use for
different results, wipe patterns, etc).
Tail-light replacements (using PJ Grady replacement boards)
Tank-Zilla install / replacement of faulty OEM fuel sending unit
Radiator and Hose Replacements
Installation of Over-Heat Protector from DMCJoe
===================
That's everything I have done to my car.... and I am told the above
items are almost always guaranteed to break.... so it would go
under "regular maintanence" IMHO.
I am looking for the following:
Transmission Fluid Replacement
Axel/Gear oil replacements for steering, axel, etc.
Places to lube (like Walmart of Jiffy Lube does)... and lubing Speedo
Cable, etc. (these are things I have not done yet)... others who
will give me a brief description of it, I will do it to my car, take
photos and include in manual).
And anything else others can think of would be helpful...
I know there is a DMC shop manual, I have it.... but there are people
like me that can't read the "mechanic lingo" and need to see pictures
and have basic wording....

Just go to http://www.centerforce.com/ click on the Online Catalog button,
then enter 1981 or 1982 for the year and DeLorean for the make. Click on
submit and it will give you just what you are looking for. You can get
either the basic Centerforce I setup, or the high-end Dual-Force.

Subject: DeLorean Northwest Passage
Just a reminder that only 10 days remain for DeLorean owners and
enthusiasts to enjoy the lower registration rates for the DeLorean
Northwest Passage which will be held on September 19 to 21 beginning
in Portland Oregon.
This "rolling car show" for DeLoreans, which will travel from snowy
peaks, mighty rivers, agricultural areas and of course, the Pacific
Ocean coastline in Northern Oregon, is sponsored by the DeLorean
Owners Association.
Lower registration fees are available until August 6. Final
registration must be made by September 9.
Complete information and registration information is available at:

Subject: Re: I quit.
Hello List
I agree with Walt 100% and I decided to quit myself. The recent reason is
because my last post was rejected for no reason and with no explanation.
(BTW, I never used any offensive words) I posted to the oil thread and of
course got slammed. Then I wanted to post to explain to people that the
information I have is actually based on something very solid and it's not
just my opinion. (I was the person that Walt mentioned in his post - the
story about the oil thread) There is still a lot of confusion about when to
change your oil and that you should drive your car as soon as it is started
especially when the engine is cold. But our wonderful moderating team didn't
give me a chance to prove that what I said was not speculation, just fact. I
feel that the person that gets slammed should have a chance to prove that
he's right. No offence, but I'd rather trust lab results than listen to an
opinion of someone who works at an oil change place.
Another reason for my quitting is some of the DMLers themselfs. Some people
have no idea what they are talking about but will still post to the list
slamming others. C'mon!!!! You are not always right!!! For some reason some
people think that they know everything better than others. I would never
slam somebody just because I think he is wrong. The idea is to have a
conversation not a slamming contest! I get an impression that this list is
becoming a "who can slam better" contest.
I have been a member of the DML for a looooong time and during that time I
have helped a lot of fellow DeLorean owners that needed help. I like helping
people and I'm glad I could help. But I enjoy talking about the car and
helping people much more than arguing with someone.
So, if anyone needs my help feel free to email me at tomcio'AT'gtemail.net .
As some people know, I know just about everything there is to know about the
car and I'd be glad to help if someone is in need.
If someone wants to argue about something.... just enjoy your stay on the
DML - The best DeLorean related slamming contest on the web.
Good bye

Subject: Car for sale - lower price!
My DeLorean is still for sale. I need to sell it soon so I decided to lower
the price to $16500. The car has 57k miles on it, it's an automatic with
gray leather and it's located in Clearwater, FL. More info can be found in
the Buy and Sell section on the DMC News website. I can take any picture of
the car upon request. I can also make a video tape of the car showing any
and all parts of the car. I can also ship the car anywhere in the world.
Email if interested at tomcio'AT'gtemail.net
