(issues) It's too bad that people give up when other people step on their pet peeves. I will try to keep this short, brief, and to the point. 1)I have had similar issues with moderators. If a message gets denied, always let the sender know why. Don't let it disappear. Moderating should be used to control fighting and to keep things civil, not for eliminating a thread which the moderator thinks is useless (see Webster's). 2)People are smart enough to figure out which messages are helpful and the not so helpful. Even I am guilty of misinformation that I thought was right (remember the halon issue?). Just simply disregard the ones you don't like or that doesn't apply. You don't need a moderator for that. Nor do you need one to determine 'realistic' messages. 3) I don't think Walt is a bad guy. I just think he is an extravert who likes to get his ideas and opinions out there. Just remember that the issues that he has is with the moderators and not the list members (read below, as he never had an issue with a list member). However, I think dealing with the situation and addressing the problem to correct it and sticking with it makes a better man than quitting. (Let me get this right: You subscribe and read, and you'll only answer privately unless you get stepped on. How is this quitting again?) If you want to whine and moan as to why you can't cuss, then you need to move on. 4) Last but certainly not least: Ken, you are the one with the testicular fortitude to run this and I salute you for that. Without you, we wouldn't have this mailing list. Whiners and moaners need to come up to this or create your own list. Then again, why try to reinvent the wheel. Stop spending your energy complaining and use it productively. In the meantime, for crying out loud, keep the laughing and joking coming! The crazy cop and flux capacitor stories are hysterical! Not to mention the poetry! Now that would make me mad, a returned joke. Nothing is worse than a bunch of stiff stick in the muds trying to be professional on an informal list! Hang loose and have fun. I'll see you on the list and at the shows! Not so short, sorta simple, but to the point! -Mike A. ----- Original Message ----- From: "Walter Coe" <Whalt@xxxxxxx> To: <dmcnews@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxx> Sent: Friday, July 26, 2002 1:19 AM Subject: [DML] I quit. > I have had enough accumulated frustration with the DML that I am formally > calling it quits, and I am not alone. I was taught, and always remember this simple rule: "Positive-to-Positive, Negative to Ground." So, in two "normal" cars, jump the positive battery terminal (good car) to positive battery terminal (dead car), negative battery terminal (good car) to any good engine or frame ground on the dead car. Of course, in the Delorean, there is no reason you can't use the posts available in the engine compartment if it is either the good or dead car. -Hank ________________________________________________________________________ ________________________________________________________________________ Message: 5 Date: Fri, 26 Jul 2002 19:39:53 -0400 From: "Hank Eskin" <heskin@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx> Subject: Re: Don't feed my car after midnight! Or else I get electrical gremlins! I had this exact same problem in Memphis (although it was more erratic). DMC Joe found and fixed two bad grounds, causing a ground fault. He said the tach is one of the first/best warning signs of a grounding problem. Besides fixing the tach problem, my car now runs better than it ever had. There is more power available for all the accessories, and the voltmeter doesn't go nearly as low as it did in an "all-on" state. And now my horn and turn signals work at night when I have the A/C on. -Hank Eskin #1619 ----- Original Message ----- From: "therealdmcvegas" <DMCVegas@xxxxxxxx> To: <dmcnews@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxx> Sent: Friday, July 26, 2002 3:07 PM Subject: [DML] Don't feed my car after midnight! It had crossed my mind that the leaking seal may have had some impact on the latest clutch problem, however from my experience with other cars, oil on the clutch plate causes a shuddering noise when the clutch is engaged. This did not occur. On the occasions of my two previous clutch problems, the pads on the clutch plate simply shredded to bits. The entire engine bay filled with fibres. Here in New South Wales, it is a mandatory requirement that all motor vehicles undergo a yearly maintenance check. No maintenance check - no registration!! It's the government's way earning more money and supposedly to keep un-roadworthy vehicles off the road. It was at one of these maintenance checks where the mechanic was driving the car to test the brakes which is done electronically. He pulled the car to a stop, selected first gear, let out the clutch and nothing happened. The clutch had let go. There was no tell-tale noise - no nothing!! Baffled, the mechanic lifted the engine cover and to his dismay, saw fibres all over the place. This little ordeal cost about $500 to fix which included re-facing the flywheel. A year later while my son was driving the DeLorean to a car show where we had entered it, the same thing happened .... shredded clutch plate. This time I had the car trucked to a mechanic in Sydney who had worked on another DeLorean and who also had the blessing of Stephen Wynne who actually visited the workshop while he was in Australia a couple of years ago. I also met Steven while he was here in Australia. Well, after a further $1200, I was hopeful that my clutch problems would be over. Now it's happened again, but this time the clutch plate is completely worn away. The diagnosis from my mechanic, and that of a local clutch expert is that that the wrong pressure plate and clutch plate was used. Although I have yet to receive the new components, I am hopeful again that this will be the last time my clutch fails. With regards to the oil seal, and thanks to Klaus from Germany who provided me with the Renault Part Number (DMC 102024 = Renault Seal 7901 466 774), I bought a seal from my local parts dealer. The cost was quite acceptable at $AU19.00 ($US10.00). Inserting the seal was quite easy. The old one basically 'fell-out'. It had shrunk over the years and was obviously the cause of the oil leak. That has gotta suck! My original clutch went 70K miles, with much spirited driving and countless parades! I now have a Centerforce clutch, which I feel is superior to the OEM setup. I looked in my documentation, and don't have a part number for the seal, but I was shocked by your clutch life (or lack thereof). I hope that you get that sorted out. If I stumble across a part number tomorrow, I'll try to post it. Good luck.
