One can easily see the lack of experience that I have on the DeLorean car...
be it none! Without the math I get the idea that the binding cannot be
easily felt. As for the attention to detail remark that I made, please
understand that I convey this humbly as I have made the same mistake on few
occasions... at the expense of your illustrious tax dollars spent on parts
and my former paychecks (sorry). As a mechanic in the U.S. Army I was often
given a part in a box and was told "The such and such is broken. Go replace
it." I made the mistake pulling the old part BEFORE I opened the box, only
to find that the part in the box to be hung was NOT the part taken off.
Oops. Compost happens. Lesson learned. Compare parts BEFORE EXTRACTION.

Well, I liked the show despite the lack of information on the car itself.
It went to show that the man and the ideas were revolutionary and brilliant.
It also shows one of the greatest examples of piss-poor-timing/supervision
ever. If you saw the show then you know what I mean. Even if the car was
made in Detroit, it drew a very specific audience when people wanted
practicality and economy, and therefore just didn't sell after the hype. It
also gives the idea that the defects that you may find on your car might not
be aftermarket, but actual factory defects that came from the lack of
training! Again, piss-poor-timing. Of course I am an outsider looking in
since I don't own a D... yet. Any thoughts or opinions on this perspective.

Subject: worn out upper door panel
I'm sure a lot of us have this problem, so I'm wondering if anyone has any
good solutions.
I've had to take my upper door panels off quite a few times, and the stiff
cardboard (?) with holes for the fir trees has become feeble and torn in
some places. I've hit upon a system where i use a few pieces of scotch
tape to hold the fir trees in the right place so that i can get the door
panels on, but the tape seems to give way and leave parts of the panel
disconnected from the door.
Does anyone know of any way to reinforce the door panel so that the fir
trees can be held firmly in place once again?

Travis, I had the same problem when I replaced my original lines with the
stainless steel lines. It wasn't the SS lines fault, What i found was that
someone had put black silicone on the threads in the fuel distributor and one
of the FD ports was partially blocked. I cleaned it out and replaced all the
injectors and everything is fine now. I haven't look for torque spec's on the
injectors, but if you use new washers when you replace the banjo bolt, I just
snug them down. Maby less than 5 or 6 lb's.
The fuel pump bolt torques at about 11 lb's if I'm not mistaken.

I have seen some "D's" with the struts that have bent the anchor pin
on the car. The owner wasn't even aware if it. In all fairness to the
vender that supplied it since there is a variation in all production
cars that strut that was too long on one car may work fine on
another. If the anchor pin is bent I have seen by replacing the strut
with a better one it doesn't matter that the pin is slightly bent. If
the pin BENDS when opening and closing the door then it is weakened
and I would be afraid it could break off. The heavy duty bkts P J
Grady sells is for the door side of the strut I think, not the frame
side. There is no way you would feel the strut bending the pin when
closing the door. On most cars the owners slam the doors closed anyway
because the doors don't close well and need the latching pins to be
adjusted.
This is a great advantage of using this list, you can benefit from
the experiences of many. I have tried and seen struts from several of
the venders and although many buy collectivly and sell the same ones
(It's cheaper to order large quantities among several venders) I like
the ones from P J Grady best. If you are going for the door launchers
I think his will work the best because of the built-in retarding force
at the end of the opening stroke.
Another factor to consider is that struts don't last forever, some
vender's struts last longer than others.

Hi guys,
Unfortunately I have to go back to Ireland in October for about 8
months or so, to finish college, and there is no point in bringing
the DeLorean with me, as the insurance is so crazy back home, about
$10,000 a year for me on the DeLorean. (No, thats not a typo!)...
Anyway, instead of putting my DeLorean in storage, I've decided to
put it in a museum for a year. I found a museum in Florida who would
be delighted to display the car, their website is

What do I need to think about before giving my car away to these
guys? I'll have my own insurance covering it during its stay in
Florida. Should I get a contract drawn up, and what should I include
in it? Any other list members have their car in a museum?
I'll be driving down to Florida in September to give them the car,
should be a nice drive! Hopefully I'll be allowed to write the
information which will be displayed beside the car, so I'll write a
very nice and complimentary review of it and of course the man
himself, John Z.

Subject: RPM-relay relay
Hello all,
No, my subject line does NOT contain a typo...
I'm in need of a small relay that will on fit the
RPM-relay PCB and that is capable of handling enough
current to run the fuel pump and the Lambda-circuit.
I have ahad trouble with the RPM-relay for quite a bit
allready, but thought I'd be okay with the fuel pump
being hotwired to IGN.II untill Martin Gutowski pointed
out that I would not have power to my Lambda-circuit
that way (Thanks again).
I had never thought this would really make that much
of a difference, but it does. Unmantling the relay and
using basic trouble shooting techniques has revealed
to me that the actual relay insode the housing has
had it's best time. With the engine running I have to
help the moving contact over to the coil to make it close.
When helped it does stay closed, but if I tap the relay
the contact jumps back to the rest-position.
There is a steady voltage of 12.6V at idle over the coil,
so it's no low voltage problem; the relay is probably
just worn after 20 years.
I really hate to put out $75,- for a complete RPM relay
when only this little piece is broken, so I need a
replacement that will fit in there.
If I can't find one, I'm going to build an external
relay onto the housing powered from the PCB.
Does anyone know how much current the relay uses?
Any help is appreciated...

Hey,
For those of you that don't know me, my name is Keegan Ingram,
I'm 18 years old, I live in Stockbridge GA (right below Atlanta),
and own an 81' Delorean Vin# 3137. I got the car about a year ago,
but the guy had painted it red.I haev been restoring it for the past
year and is know back to its origional beauty.
My problem is that just recently my driverside door is locked
up in the front. It is not the selianoids, and adjusting or moving
the rod on the inside of the door wont help. if any one has any
advice on this problem, any help is apreciated.
Also, I f anyone is currently stripping a DeLorean I can give
some tips on how to do it with out destroying anything, having to
regrain the car, or having to take the whole thing apart.

Well, it's been a month since the Memphis Show and I have received
several emails (off-list) regarding my Delorean Hover Conversion.
Most of you that attended the Memphis Show saw it on display but may
not have gotten a chance to see it in action, early Saturday morning.
So, whether you were at the Memphis Show and slept in Saturday morning
or were not able to attend the show, Tamir has completed a short video
(about 1 min 45 sec) of the Delorean Hover Conversion in flight in the
Graceland parking lot, before Graceland opened for the day. This is a
long download for dial up users (about 2.5MB), but it is well worth it
to see a fully functional, Delorean Hover Conversion in action.
Also, for those who did not attend, there is a 45 sec. video of the
Delorean Convertible (roadster) driving around the Graceland area
and a short D Rex drive video, all in the MultiMedia section of my
projects website, www.entermyworld.com/rich. Tamir has weekly updates
planned for the next few weeks, so the website should be caught up to
the progress of the current projects by the end of the month.
Tamir has been creative, as usual, and more new projects and some new
features will be added to the website in the coming weeks, so be sure
to check back often, to keep up to date. Less than 23 months left to
get the new projects done for the next Delorean Car Show.
