While I still feel sorry for what happened to #10663, I couldn't help myself thinking "this could have been avoided if the relays had been ordered from a DMC vendor"... Complete relay kits are available.
I'm not saying this to act as a "wise guy", I just think its important that other people reflect over this. Worst case scenario could have been a burnt-out DeLorean and/or personal injuries... Our DeLoreans are very few...lets not waste any!

Did your friend replace any of the relays? I had this happen to me when a
local Bosch distributor sold me the wrong replacement relay and it took the
positive to the ground in my relay compartment. Marty Maier and myself spent
a late night redoing it. This stuff always seems to happen right before
trips or shows.

Subject: Re: Fuse 2 short
A place to start would be to pull ALL of the parking light bulbs. One
bulb that was made bad or installed incorrectly can cause this. A less
likely possibility is a pinched wire somewhere but it can happen. If
you can't find it easily then go to the Auto parts store and buy a
"short circuit detector" which is a circuit breaker and a
galvanometer. A bad way to try to fix this is to use a larger fuse to
"burn out" the short. This could cause a melt-down of the wiring and
melt switches, and fuseblock. Do make sure you are using the correct
size fuse, in fact while you are in the fuse area check and make sure
all of the fuses are the correct size for the position installed.

I have the same problem with my new struts.....it is pretty exciting to see

However I do not have the automated openers you have......sure wish you or

All kidding aside tho. Mine now I am afraid, are just TOO strong......I

Subject: speeding tickets? was Re: bad jokes we get... :)
Hi again guys,
Something I've been wondering about - when you get pulled over for
speeding, do you generally get a ticket, or is the cop more
interested in talking about/checking out the DeLorean, and then
leaves you off with a warning? I've been pulled over for speeding a
few times in MASS and Rhode Island, since I got the D, and also for
not displaying a front licence plate. Never got a ticket... Every
time, the cop says something like "oh I remember when these came out,
what year is it...etc". Then I get the warning " well, nice car, but
keep it down in future, I'll give you a warning this time only!"
Once, I was driving back from my friend Declan Kellys house (he has a
D too), doing at least 85 (in a 65mph zone) or so. A car pulls up
beside me, so I look over, and its the cops! They just drove beside
me for a few seconds (I thought there's no point in slowing down at
this stage unless they pull me over), then they waved and took off
ahead of me! Very strange...
Any other owners had this experience?

Initial parts order (with factory literature) may arrive *after*
vehicle's final leg of journey home, so I ask now:
Question #4: Does factory Craig radio have an inline fuse? Mine is
dead in water. Do not see radio specific fuse in block. All other dash
electricals function OK.
Question #4.5: If I decide to trouble shoot radio, what is console
disassembly procedure -- specifically: how many attachment points &
where located, what faceplates etc must be detached from console
before removal, any hidden pitfalls?
Re: Question #3, rusty studs may prevent passenger side exhaust leak
repair in VA. All the more reason to fix radio (if possible) -- don't
want to spend 7 hours on highway listening to a doodlebug.
FWIW: My fine new ride was an eBay transaction -- COD. Examined & test
drove car before exchanging check, but was at mercy of seller for
history, etc. Jury still out on wisdom of purchase. Is honeymoon when
problems confined to radio and fuel accumulator. Ask me again when
idle speed goes crazy, suspension breaks, etc (yes, I've been reading
your posts ...)

Yep, that fuse always ends up melting. You're going to have to get to the
wires under the fuse box and run them into a pigtail (or inline) fuse
holder.

Long time lurker here, de-lurking for a sec.
Not everyone hates the routine of bad jokes that come
with the car. Some drivers encourage it and embrace
the BttF connection to varying degrees. For those
that want to give a little chuckle to their friends
and make people look twice..or three times, there's a
new book that came out this spring called "How to
Build a Time Machine" by Paul Davies. Viking Press;
ISBN: 0670030635. Pick up a copy and leave it on your
dash, passenger seat, center console or anywhere else
in plain sight. The book itself talks about how time
travel is theoretically possible and talks more about
the film "Contact", than it does BttF.
For those that hate the jokes and the BttF image, just
don't buy the book.

Did you actually LOOK at the pictures?
I did and went even a little further; I scaled them to matching sizes
and then did an overlay in Photoshop; they ARE the same.
What do you think the odds are on getteing EXACTLY the same angle,
lighting and reflections on two separate photo's of different engines?
Close to non-existing I think.
But as someone allready pointed out; the seller doesn't have to be a

if you want to buy and have doubts; GO SEE THE CAR!
IMHO buying ANYTHING site-unseen is stupid and asking to be ripped off.

blue anodized fittings:
6 fuel lines to injectors
1 line from fuel filter to the distributor
1 fuel return line
2 lines to/from the CPR
1 to cold start valve
1 to frequency valve
They were ordered in Germany and custom made by Goodridge in GB. All
fittings are standard parts and available in blue or red aluminium or

You bring up several interesting points in a topic that I admit I have strong
feelings about. If someone were to take pictures of my car, and add them to
like a tribute website, or a fansite, or something like that, I probably wouldn't
mind. That of course is dependant upon in what light the DeLorean is
represented in. But if pictures of my car were used to try and sell another
person's vehicle, then I would not be happy in the least bit. I take pride in both
my car, and the amount of work that has gone into it. So for someone else to
simply come along and use my pictures to represent their car, that's like
cheating of my test. But to use my work to actually profit by the sale of a car,
or any other means, that's theft of my intellectual property. Nor is it something
that I would ever give permission for.
Personal feelings aside, it is not fair to a buyer to falsely represent a car with
photos that are not of that car. When buying a classic car (or even a simple
used car for that matter), you take many things into account. Specificly your
budget. Crudely put, if the price of the car + the price of parts needed to repair
it exceed your budget, then you are unable to afford that car. Pictures of things
such as the engine compartment can greatly help you asert part of the money
nessisary to repair the car, if not give you an idea about how th vehicle has
been cared for. I've run across cars that run well, but have had every single
fuel hose on the engine cracked and rotten, along with the vapor hoses.
These items alone will cost you a few bucks to replace. Now, on the flip side
of things, you said what does it matter what picture is used since they all look
alike? Indeed, what does it matter. If they have a car that is in good condition,
and looks just like everyother car, then why bother to insert a photo at all? If
we all know what the car looks like, then what is the point? Obviously, pictures
are included to help boost the value of the car, if not simply encourage buyers
(or in this case bidders) to purcahse the car. Not matter if you're on eBay, or
Autotrader, you'll always be drawn first to the ads with pictures on them.

Subject: Remote-buying DeLoreans
One thing to keep in mind with all this talk about "fake" photos
being used in Ebay ads - Rich Weissensel in my area has probably
bought more sight-unseen cars than anyone I know. He may care to
elaborate, but I notice that one of his tactics as a purchaser is to
ask the seller to provide many photos shot from specific angles and
distances. On a given car he may do this several times over a couple
of days. Legitimate sellers will not mind the intrusion. This serves
a couple of purposes. In addition being able to see certain common
features of the car that accurately portray condition, it also
assures, at least to an extent, that the seller really has the car in
his posession. Sure - someone could have a pristine car around and
take photos, but that's an effort that most of these scammers won't
go to. They would rather decline and move on to a better "prospect".
If the seller refuses to cooperate - move on.
Another good tactic was requested on the note posted here a short
while ago - in almost anywhere in the US you can find a DML-er
willing to check out and/or photograph a car for you. I've done this
for people - it's kind of fun and does help out the community.

Klaus,
That really looks impressive. One important question: Were you able to find
a good replacement for the hose that is made onto the frequency valve?
Did the price you mention include all the SS coverings & blue collars?
I think it would look really nice to polish & blue anodize certain parts of
the engine. That would look cool.... I mean MORE cool.

Hi Marvin,
Some others replied to this question already, but i have a diffrent
solution. First of all your friend should replace the realys as a
must. I belive the problem is that they use a ground in a sort of
pig tail, it goes from ground, to the next relay, to the next relay
etc. What i did was replace the wires (socket clips are availbe at
auto parts store), but i ran the wire to the screw holes on the
metal plate that holds all the electrics. I used eye hold type
conenctors and ss screws to make it look good. You then run the
inital ground wire there as well. The idea is each relay has it's
own grounding point. Haven't had a problem yet, and grady says it's
a good idea.

No more pick up line. Instead of the long hose route and collapsing

Sounds like a good idea but I have a question. Isn't the original
baffle in a position in the tank where it is at the lowest point?
Meaning that the tank is sloped towards it so that all the gas is
concentrated to that area? If it is designed this way then the new
baffle you came up with WILL work but you won't have that
fuel "reserve" when your tank goes low....we'll have to re-learn how
far we can go on a tank of gas. Like I said...good Idea so this
isn't a bash or anything.

one fuse in the box doesn't catch it, the ground fuse might.

<< Some others replied to this question already, but i have a diffrent

My fuel lines are formed steel (like brake lines). Is this a retrofit
by previous owner or did some leave factory as such?

Subject: Powered Seats ?
Anyone ever pulled the factory seats and replaced them with
some form of multi-way powered seat? I don't recall ever seeing
such is any classifieds nor could I find something in the
archives?
What would be involved:
* Power would need to be routed of course.
* Factory fuse box acceptable?
* Factory alternater acceptable?
* how difficult would it be to pull current seat rails and replace?
What else?
Thanks,
Jeremy

Subject: Passenger Door
Hello
It seems that sometimes the passenger side door does not want to open the
front latch. This happens both inside and outside. It unlatches the rear
latch, but is unsuccessful in unlatching the front. This happens
occationally, and often when the handle is not pulled swiftly to open the
door.
Any ideas? I have the larger piece of door leather off right now, and I'm
looking at it. My dad and I had replaced the power lock solenoid, but I
wasn't there for a lot of the time because of work.
Thanks a lot!
John

Subject: Starting problems
The DMC had its first starting problems in 2 years today. I drove around for
a while, and parked; shutting it off for a little while. When I came back, I
turned the key, and it turned over, and when it was running, I let go of the
key, and it sputtered and died. The DMC would not start after this. The
starter would go, but the engine wouldn't start. After a while, though, it
did fire. This also happened later that day, after I had it off for around an
hour.
Thanks for any ideas.
John
