Hey, I am also looking for some info on the door. My passenger side
door sometimes locks itself from the inside, or rather the inside
door handle doesnt work sometimes. This is with the lock module
removed already..
Anyway I took my car in for an alignment and when they gave the car
back to me the passenger side window wont roll up all the way, it
seems to be of the track inside. I guess the guy locked himself in on
the passenger side and then somehow broke it by sticking his arm
through to get at the outer door handle...
Should I tell the garage what they did and make them pay for it? I
want to keep good relations with them since they are the only place
around me that is familiar with the car.. and they did do a great
alignment on it. I was thinking of doing it myself, since i want to
learn about the car, and fix my door handle problem at the same time.
All advice is appreciated!

Adam,
if they pay for it, who would you really trust to fix it correctly?
unless you are really darn sure they are the ones who messed it up (the doors
can fall off of their tracks if you have the window down when you shut the
door really hard!), i would take this opportunity to spend an afternoon and
learn how to fix your windows!!! is anything actually broken, or is it just
off of the track? if it's off the track, that's cake once you get the door
apart.

My two cents on your discussion: Unplugging only the red wire on the OEM
door lock module will only patch half the problem. The module still draws
current through the multi-wire plug while the car isn't being used. For
people who don't drive often, not unplugging the module completely leaves an
unnecessary drain on the battery. Here is a relevant quote from a previous
post:

I have almost learned the hard way that it is a really bad idea to use the
car with the relay compartment cover off because as you take turns, things
can fall into the electricals. Another issue concerning the cargo net is
that if it falls into the open relay compartment, it can melt from touching
hot objects in there such as the fan breakers. But of course nothing there
should get that hot anyway. If you are going to drive with the relay
compartment open, unhook the cargo net bungee from the bottom and keep it
clear.
BTW Travis, good call on the bungee cord source. I bet they will be deluged
by nickel/dime orders for short lengths now. :-)

Hi everyone,
The more the merrier at our BBQ get together. We are hoping to meet some
of you new owners in addition to our list of usual fokes. So don't be
shy, even if you don't have a car but are looking to purchase this is a
good place to start, with other owners willing to give you as much info
and advise as we can.
We would also like to plan a drive in our cars for that day, possibly
before the BBQ.
Hopefully I will have my car back by then, had a little trany problem,
it was completely gone but I am having it fixed.
Also I am upgrading the Eclipse stereo and GPS system with custom built
in speakers in the back wall(2-10" subs) instead of the ugly tube that
used to be there, and in the kick panels with 5"midrange speakers if
anyone is interested in that kind of stuff!
I will be gone on vacation to yosemite from June 30th to July 7th and I
will correspond with you Ken and Richard after that time to put together
some more details.
But in the meantime I hope to come home to a email box filled with
responses to this invitation, please rsvp by email or phone.

I've always wanted to try but haven't had the time -- to ask the local TV
stations if they would give out copies of old news broadcasts from the '80s.
When DeLoreans were new, I saw many local news stories about the cars -- all
worth seeing again. I know that the local stations archive ALL locally
produced news broadcasts probably ever since they used magnetic tape. I was
hanging out with a friend who worked at one of these stations and saw the
shelves full of tapes that went back to the '70s. The problem is if you can
get the stations to cooperate and/or if they have them indexed where you can
do a search.

I have cross-drilled rotors for the front of my car and regret buying them
because they are too noisy. These are no longer available, though. I've
already said plenty in the archives if you want to look up under
"cross-drilled" & "Walter".
Ed Uding is selling a custom cross-drilled / vented rotors. It was on
display at the Memphis show. He starts with a wider rotor, does a lot of
machining on it and then makes an adapter/spacers that makes the stock
calipers wide enough to fit. The cross-drilling on the rotors he does
himself, and I personally don't like this for technical reasons. If I have
him make me a set, I will ask about skipping the cross-drilling procedure.

As for the digital dash idea, there are two options I have seen.
Specifically for the DeLorean is Dakota Digital. I've seen it and
personally don't like it. Out of the SummitRacing.com catalogue there is a
digital/simulated analog tach & speedo with matching other gauges that I've
seen installed in Curtis' modified car that was at the Memphis show. I
considered trying these in my car until I saw them installed Curtis' car. I
just didn't like the way they looked/worked. The response time of the tach
was too slow, but then he had a hunting idle problem which made it worse.
I'm still waiting for DMC/Texas to eventually (if they ever) develop their
electronic speedo that still looks OEM with the exception of an LCD readout
for the odometer/trip. There are also other people independently developing
electronic solutions to the angle drive.

I am searching for ac parts for my 1981 before I order from vendors.
I need both long ac hoses and the condenser that sits up front near
the radiator. I would like these NOS or aftermarket but most
importantly they must not leak. I also heard of some people
replacing the hoses without jacking the body up. How is this done if
at all possible. Thanks for your help.

Lets do some quick maths here:
My battery is 58Ah (OEM batt) - that means it will flatten in 58 hours at 1A or in 1 hour
at 58A. 11.7mA is 0.0117A
58 divided by 0.0117 equals 4957 hours
which is 206 days
I would call this a reasonable time for a battery to discharge "on its own" wouldn't you?
IMO the emergency unlock is of limited use anyway.
