I have found on the various websites just about every repair you can attempt
on this Delorean. However, I still have not found a detailed explanation of
how to succesfully go inside the door, remove solenoid and get the door back
together....I need to replace one of mine and would prefer to be able to read
the steps from someone who's done it a couple hundred times so I don't break
everything in the door....

One of the best resources to answer your question is the home page
for this group. Go to www.dmcnews.com , and click on "Technical
Information Library" (or words to that effect), and you will find a
heading for New buyer's guides, and other associated topics. I would
definitely start there. Also, there are many rabid DeLorean owners
in the UK, so I would tie into one of them (in a positive way!) for
more "local assistance". We extend to you an early welcome into this
diverse and varied bunch, and we look forward to hearing about the
car that you find.

Basically there are two main flaws: the main one being the propensity
for the relays to weld themselves shut. This is for two reasons - a)
they are open to the air and prone to sparking (modern sealed relays are
sealed in an inert gas, or so I'm told) and b) they are switched by a
falling voltage - ie the timing function of the circuit is to power the
relays off a capacitor. As it discharges, the relay "sees" a falling
voltage. This has the effect similar to turning a lightswitch off slowly
- you get the "buzzing" as the contacts slowly part, which accellerates
the problem of them welding shut. The second main flaw is with the
control circuit itself which is badly designed simply by not having
protection diodes. This same problem is present on the auto tranny
governor! I use sealed 10A Siemens relays which have silver contacts.
They cost £1.49 and apparently they've just started selling 30A versions!

Subject: update on 1982 for sale
its a 1982, (made in oct '81) ive updated/upgraded:
- the electrical
- battery
- fuses
- relays
- fan fix
- tankzilla
- have the tabby bolts (not installed, installed when an alignment is
done)
- brake pads and rotars are larger cross drilled
- DMC Houston lowering springs
- this week i put on the angle drive and new dust cover (for the
speedometer) **NOTE**the odometer is off by about 8-10k for a true 17-
19k miles
- tires have less than 10k
- interior is origional and almost flawlless
- has Alpine CD player and Boston Acustics speakers
- new hoses and belts
- facias are freshly painted (since last pictures)
- there are a few things needed to make it almost perfect, namely in
the gen. maint. dept. (tuneup, alignment, fluids need to be changed,
etc.)
things wrong:
- drivers window isnt working (tested the switch, it works)
- the front sway bar is a bit bent on one end, drives fine though
(cost = $125? DMC Houston and 30 min).
- "B-B" size pit in the lower drivers door ( I have no idea about it)
- needs new door seals in the next year or two
- need to touch up some of the trim pieces (a bit on the dull side,
not to bad for 20yrs though)
- runs a bit rough (needs a tuneup)
Thats all i can think of right now. I will have digital pics this
saturday of the entire car inside and out . . . and im in Baton
Rouge, La.

I do thank all of you that have written me privately out of concern
for my health. It is very much appreciated. I have to go for new
tests and a new treatment regiment in about 2 weeks. It is this
treatment set that is the reason I am selling my car. It is supposeto
all but destroy my immune system for about 3 months and it is at this
time that if something is to go wrong, it will most likely happen
then.

This part is very undercapacity and WILL fail causing the battery to
go dead, burn out the door lock solenoids and trap you in the car. The
only sensible thing to do is (If you won't upgrade it) disconnect it.
There are several options if you want the system to work from doing a
"plug and play" Lockzilla to changing some parts inside the lock
module. For many who are not adept at doing electrical work the
Lockzilla is the easiest and safest way to go. For the more
adventerous there have been many discussions on the DML as to what to
do. Each owner must decide what to do but consider this, In a resale
situation I think a Lockzilla is much better than something you
"invented" and would show the prospective buyer you took care of the
car and only did the best you could to it. Eventually the car will be
sold so remember we only "take care of" the cars for a little while.
The better you treat the car the higher the resale value.

The distributor is stuck..
i can get the cap off, rotor off, and little plastic shield off, as well
as the retaining nut holding the distributor in place
however, i CANNOT remove it , or turn it!
am i doing something wrong, or is it perhaps oxidized into place?
i tried some penetrating oils to budge it, but nothing
any help / suggestions are GREATLY appreciated!~

When the e-bay buyer finally received the car, it was a piece of junk, and the guy vanishes. Mine ended up on there. He bought mine for $7,000, only sent me $3000 promising he'll send the rest after it was on the truck, and never sent me the rest of the money. I outsmarted him by holding on to the title. The guy who won the bid paid $11,800 for it. The rest was pure profit. Anyways, he did that to 5 other known people so far around the nation, and we have no idea where this guy is. Now I have to go repo this car from New York, and the guy who bought it is out $11,800 (plus shipping -- $1300). His name is Peter DeMazio. He might have called you for parts.
Now the FBI is involved in this case, and I wanted to let you know that this guy is still out there scamming people. Possibly may have moved on to other collector cars. But be on the lookout if you hear of anything strange. Kind of let the DeLorean community know that a scam artist is out on the loose. We are all out to get him, but there are no traces of him. Will keep you posted if we nab him. Any leads, clues, or other known victims would help. By the way, all we know is that this guy lives (or used to live) in Scottsdale, Arizona. Another one on TV gang.
Ian's post reminded me of a sighting in the animated TV show "Family Guy" that airs on the Fox network (well, it used to). In the episode "One if by Clam, Two if by Sea" when the scene at The Drunken Clam
flashes back to 1985, there's a DMC-12 sitting out on the kerb in front of the bar. It was too quick for me to see how accurately it was drawn, but the cool thing was it had the fat black stripe down the
side which I haven't seen very often in real life. :)
Feel free to "moderate" this reference. It's Friday. :)

I am working on a project and was looking for a bit of help.
What I want is photos, or actual film clips of the DeLorean in comercials, tv
series, movies, or promotions like the recording lable of a few bands that
have used the car.
I am trying to work on a project for 2004 and could use your help
As always I am trying to put together things that you may not have seen
before or have never been collected.
I would like clips like the Wedding Singer, The Simpsons, Just Shoot Me
(where the girl runs over the one co worker while making out in the car),
stuff like that.
Short clips are fine I do not need the whole film nor the whole scene just
bits.
I have the BTTF movies so I don't need that.
windows media JPG are fine
Lets see what happens this may be interesting I have no Idea what is out
there.

I noticed quite a few cars this guy sold under the name seanmcorbett and
some auctions said DMC headquaters. It seemed strange to me..then someone,
sorry dont remember who, said on the list that the pics on one off

quite often said it was available upon request.

In terms of physically getting the distributor out of it's bore, there
is a rubber o-ring that seals the installation. In time, this can get
"bonded" into place by temperature, chemicals, etc. You should be
able to gently but firmly tap on any handy protrusions from the
housing to get a slight rotation, which will help to break it loose.
You may also have to pry the distributor upwards with a flat
screwdriver or other tool. DMC Joe also provided the hint that you
should set the distributor up before hand so that you can install it
back in the same orientation. Otherwise, the timing and location of
the spark plug wires may be incorrect, leading to a requirement to
"rewire" the cap by shifting the wires around to suit the new
location. It's best to set it up for retaining the original location.

i have seen this seller selling deloreans on ebay before. he was trying to sell a delorean from wisconsin. the original owner had tried to sell it on ebay weeks before with no luck because it had needed the cylinder heads replaced and he wanted too much money for the car. Sean Corbett put an ad on ebay trying to sell the car as needing little engine work and asking for even more money.

You are right Jim.
the trick with jacknuts is to use a plies on the outside of it and turn the
screw and get it slightly closed. if you do it just right it will barely pop
thru and it will have enough pressure not to spin. once they start to close
in their fixture, all it good!
i used these on my front turn signal mounts. worked great!
