Vin #6068 had a ISLAND turbo kit on it running 6Lbs of boost, and I believe it had been running with a cracked ring for a few years. The engine is out of the car, but has not been disassembled yet to find the cause of the problem.. When I get around to it, I will report what I find so other Turbo owners can be warned.
While in Memphis, I spoke to some people who had turbo kits on their car. All denied having any oil burning problem, or other engine related problems due to the boost.. One guy was even running 10Lbs and claimed he had no problems.. I later saw this car with black smoke out the tailpipe AT IDLE (even my car was not that bad!).
I agree with David, that to run boost on our PRV engines more than just a bolt on kit is needed. One requirement is Fuel Enrichment, which in most cases is a pressure switch to ground the O2 sensor. IMHO, this is not enough. I'd also look in to replacing the pistons, rings, and head gasket with items from a Alpine (310/610/GT) which were designed to be used with Turbos. Of course, this becomes cost prohibitive; which is why #6068 is undergoing a engine conversion.
Many of you saw #1860 this weekend in Memphis. While it is not obvious from the outside, Legend changed just about every part INSIDE the engine and they did not do this for fun. They did it because the stock PRV just cant handle the boost. BTW, This car made the 2200 mile round trip with no problems.

I researched modifications to the PRV last year, and for my purposes decided that it was too costly of a project for the end result. It was also difficult to source the needed parts in North America, everything would need to come from France or Germany.
If you want to stay with normal aspiration, I'd suggest starting with a 3.0L Eagle block. Rebuild it and increase the compression (will require premium fuel) and maybe put Peugeot heads on it (they have a counter balance). This starting point will give you a little more displacement (very little!) but more importantly will be a EVEN fire (instead of the DeLorean Odd fire). With EFI and maybe even DIS, I suspect you could break a REAL 200HP at the crank. This is probably also the lowest cost option, as Eagle donor motors can be had very cheap (I found complete cars for $300!).
I was looking for more than 200HP, which would require some forced induction. As I said before, the options were very costly so I decided against doing it.
Painting a DeLorean is a touchy subject. I dont know how to do it, but suggest you find a car that is already painted or look for a "deal" on a car with damaged stainless. You may also be able to save some money by calling some of the vendors (Bob Miller, PJ Grady, ect) to see if they will sell you some damaged panels they have laying around (if you buy a car with good ones, you can resell them). This way, you don't damage perfectly good stainless panels for you paint job.

Hey John. I recently got Pirellis, 600s for rear, 6000s for front. I
had a matched pair of yokohamas before, so thats my only comparison.
The pirellis make less road noise, and the p6000s for the front have
an aqua channel for better wet road driving. I live in Oregon and I
have driven my car in the rain a lot, and I have to say that the
tires have made a difference. The Pirellis were expensive though.

In the future, I am considering the possibility of purchasing a
Delorean. Several Deloreans that I've seen for sale on the auction
sites have dents. Here are my questions:
1. Can a dent be banged out/fixed?
2. If so, how hard is it to find someone who can do it?
The reason I'm asking is that I need to know how to weigh the value
of a significant dent (i.e. if the dent was in a door and the door
needed to be replaced, it would cost about $2000 according to
Delorean Motor Company - plus shipping!)

I tried what you said about using any key, and it will only take the
original door key plus the copy that was mistakenly cut the same on both
sides. I've never had anyone else to compare my keys to, I just thought it
was unusual for a key to be cut quite differently on either side but still
work both ways. Unuusal compared to any other car that is.

Yes, Goodyear still makes the Eagle NCT, just not in our sizes.
Click on sizes & specs, & you'll see that they only produce
NCT's in 3 sizes, none of which are 195/60R14 or 235/60R15.

White lettering on tires was on "18 AGIN" - my car. I just bought the car a
few weeks ago and the tires were on it. Rears are Daytona Radial S/R
P235/60-R15. Fronts are the same make /style P195/60-R14. Handled well for
the 2500 mile trip.

My souvenir of Memphis was a reminder of my continued inability to
find the water leak that bugs me every time I drive in the rain (i.e.
every car show). It doesn't happen all the time. Going INTO Memphis -
no leaks. Coming out - after about 1/2 hour in the rain, I get a drip
that seems to come from the left knee pad and lands on my left shin.
Only when slowing down, (like it collects in the knee pad and then
falls out on deceleration).
When I got home a ran a hose all around the area - nothing. I
suspected the hood stop/wiper opening, but upon further investigation
those are in the wrong place for where I'm getting wet. It seems to
me that to collect in the knee pad it would HAVE to be coming in
through the door seal.
Any ideas? Inner door seals are new (it was a LOT worse with the old
ones). Outers are original but in decent shape.

I sure pray the #'s you posted are innacurate... Hopefully one of Car
& Driver's monkeys got those #'s in 1981 while wearing giant Go-GO
boots than interfered with the clutch pedal. I mean, a 79 MPH trap
speed? Sounds like poppycock to me.
I will be going to Irwindale Speedway soon to race my DMC against a
friend's Ford (with 5.0 engine). The DMC feels faster than a 17-
second car, but perhaps they go fast up to a certain speed, then
creep along?!

I don't know if this will help but I financed a loan to get my D two years ago (I am still paying) and it has never really effected me very much. Sure, I think that I still have this loan I have to pay on the car but the payments are not as much as I have payed in the past for regular cars. (Of course I bought a less expensive D to fix up so I didn't need as much money as you may want to spend.) If you are younger and do not have much income, however, you may want to think about just saving up for the moment, as you will most likely be paying on a DeLorean *AND* an everyday driver unless you already have one that is reliable (and unless you plan on using the DeLorean everyday). But if you have an everyday driver that you do not need to pay for, I wouldn't see much hurt in trying to get a co-signer and take out a loan for a DeLorean, especially if you can get low payments.

Hey all,
i think the noise i've heard upon accelerating from 2500-2900 RPM is a thin
metal heatshield that goes over the pass side exhaust manifold. it is super
rusty and loose because it looks like some straps or mounts are broken.
trouble is, i can't find this shield in the part manual - all i see are two
shields that go on top of the crossover pipes in back... or is the right one
the one that i need? doesn't look like the right shape though. the thing
that is loose on mine wraps around the manifold.
i'm guessing this is something i should leave to an exhaust repairman to fix,
what with all the old rusty exhaust hardware around there. does anyone know
what i'm talking about here? or is this a job that i should be able to do?
(i'm pretty handy but not when studs break off....)

i hope i don't offend, but i am assuming you are college-age or younger.
would that be correct? i myself am nearly 20 and in college. i took out a
loan on my DeLorean when i was 18 right out of high school and for the first
year, i poured way more money into the car than i had previously assumed i
would need. i mean thousands more. and my car wasn't shabby when i bought
it, i'm just improving it, making it show-worthy, making it perfect and
reliable. and i'm almost there. i had a decent job then and was making
enough disposable income to make my car payments easily but all the parts
went on a credit card. now i'm working to pay all of that back!!!!
definitely keep the 'extra expenses' in mind.
the trick is to buy a car that is cheap enough for your budget (a loan
officer can help you figure that out) but one that isn't so crappy that it
will need a lot of work in order to be driveable and give you instant
enjoyment. if it turns out you are just on the edge of being able to afford
it .... DON'T!! you will only be frustrated and probably have to sell it
months down the line. also - if you think it will be your only vehicle -
think again!! you will probably be walking to work/school quite a bit!!!
stuff happens..
at first buying my DeLorean was a major setback for someone my age but
personally it has been worth it. i love my car and i hope i will have it
forever! the most fun is being with other owners at club events.
the truth is, most young people probably can't afford a toy car like this
(especially one in poor condition). luckily i'm in financially good shape
for my age. i'm only 19, haven't even finished school yet and i already
gross $30,000 a year with my newest promotion (store manager of a national
quick-lube chain). i even get to use my shop whenever i feel like - makes
oil changes, trans fluid changes, radiator flushes etc super easy!! i
consider myself pretty well off for my age - if you are in that position too,
then by all means...
GET YOURSELF A DELOREAN AND ENJOY IT!!!

the delorean isn't heavy at all and i never said it was a race car. it is approx 2712
lbs and my 1992 mustang gt is 3420 lbs, that is 708 lbs lighter than a 1992 mustang gt
with a V8 engine. i was wondering because most sports cars have a 1/4 mile time that has
been published in some sort of magazine and the delorean is a sports car not a race car.

A curious curiosity question!

I know what you are going through. I didn't have to finance my Delorean since
I didn't have to, but I certainly financed my first, second, third, fourth,
fifth and many more of my sportscars before I really could afford to indulge
myself. This was many years ago, but I still remember some of the
trepidations. Another thing that I remember well is that there were times
when it was hard to come up with the mony for repairs and upkeep, entry fees,
etc., but there was always a will and always (at least mostly) a way.
In retrospect; I don't regret a single one of my old cars! The only regret I
have is that I didn't keep some of them because thay would be worth a fair
chunk of money today. That I couldn't afford because eventually I got
married, built a house, had another expensive hobby or two, but I am back at
it again! (Divorced.)
Sure it is nice to own your car free and clear, but that didn't stop me or
any of my friends way back when, nor do I think that that has changed much
over the years.
I was single for a number of years after my first splurge and if you are in
the same boat: Have at it!
If you are married: Be careful.
Above all: Enjoy your foibles, you only live once!
And remember: The purchase is not the end of your expenses! (If you follow
the postings here you have hopefully figured that out for yourself.)
