You know, I got to looking at my cable today (with my glasses on) and
I can't find any frays, or cuts anywhere. That makes me really wonder
what's going on here ! I replaced the coiled spring in the bellcrank
assembly today - I had ordered the part earlier, just in case. I am
going to attempt to lubricate the cable completely and see what
happens. The car has never been rained on, is stored in a secure
climate controlled garage, and no one has attempted to adjust the
throttle.
Thanks to everyone on the board that has responded to my problem!
I'll keep looking until I find the problem.

That would be one of my many pet projects. I was waiting for some wheel
alignment fixtures to show up via UPS which came yesterday. I unpacked the
stuff, set it up and realized that it won't take the measurements that I
need, but it will align the wheels. I was hoping that I could get someone
to send me a copy of the original factory engineering drawings (even with a
$1000 bribe in the deal) but there are a LOT of politics involved. I have
promised a bunch of people convex side mirror glasses for their D's which I
need to get done first. I also need to finish my income tax, but that is
getting extended anyway. Basically I'm just waiting for the notion to
strike to take the sway bar off of my car and take a lot of measurements and
make some drawings. I have a sway bar off of a wrecked car, but it is too
bent to get reliable measurements from.
If anyone would like to help, I would like to come up with an average
measurement on the sway bar. It needs to be off the car to get this
measurement. The measurement I need is the distance between the center of
the threaded ends that go into the front lower control arm. I need it in
metric but don't mind converting if you can only do it the SAE way. I hope
to have it done in time to bring a few prototypes to Memphis.

I wasn't excited about buying the last few of the remaining Yokos and then
risk damaging one and not being able to match it. So I bought Michelin
Pilots from tirerack.com. They have the same tread front-to-back, same
speed rating, same look, etc. I am very happy with them. And I can get an
exact replacement for one of them if I need to.

There is a right way and a wrong way. The DML archives have plenty of
examples of the wrong way where people suggest getting a real long
screwdriver and taking the handle loose from the bracket.
The right way is to take the bracket off of the inner door while the handle
and lower door panel are still together. You reach in diagonally from over
the top of the lower door panel. There will be two fasteners -- either
large philips screws or hex head bolts. You will need to lift the door
handle up (as though you were opening the door from the inside) to get to
one of the bolts. To get to the other you need to push/flex one of the door
lock rods out of the way. If your car has bolts, it is better to use 1/4"
sockets/drives rather than the larger 3/8" because you are cramped for room
in there.

Attention all Minnesota DeLorean owners/enthusiasts. The following is a
message sent to the local MNDMC group. If live in or near Minnesota,
this will be of interest to you...
Ok everybody, this may not be as advanced notice as some would like, but
here it is anyhow. The Minnesota DeLorean Club will be having its
spring meet on Saturday, May 4th. There is nothing fancy going on here,
just lunch, and if you wish to stick around and do some work on the cars
afterwards, your more than welcome to.
The meet will take place at Latuff's Pizzeria in Plymouth, MN at
12:00pm. This restaurant is where a few of us met at a year ago when
Ken Koncelik (organizer of the semi-annual DeLorean Car Show) was in
town. They have some of the best pizza in the state, along with a good
selection of other American and Italian foods. They are located at
11255 Hwy 55 PLYM MN 55441-6099. You can find a map here...
Just a note, the restaurant is located on the south side of Hwy 55 in
the Plymouth Shopping Center, the map makes it appear on the north side
of the highway. If anybody needs detailed directions, please email me
at ultra@xxxxxxx, or ultra(at)isd.net if you reading this from the web.
If anybody has any technical questions, feel free to come and ask them,
as a few of us are quite DeLorean-Savvy. Also, if anybody needs
mechanical or other assistance on their car, anybody who wants to help
out can stay afterwards and do so.
So mark your calendars, Saturday May 4th, 12:00pm. This is nothing
formal or fancy, there are no dues with the exception of the food you
eat. This is just a bunch of local DeLorean owners getting together
like they should, to have lunch, talk, and help each other out with
their cars. I hope to see you there.

Get ready for a lot of fun! I also thought that my drivers side floor was
wet from a carwash, but it turned out that there was a leak in the clutch
master cylinder. Same thing, the floormats were only a little wet on the
underside. Even though I knew that a wet drivers side floor usually means
clutch master (or brake master), it didn't really smell like brake fluid
and i thought for sure that the floor must have just been damp from the
car wash.
Check out those cylinders.

He intends on road testing them too! I keep bantering on about this, but over here in the UK, in my opinion
(and anyone who's been in my car agrees) that my Pirelli P600s on the
back and P6000s on the front are fantastic.
The P6000 supercedes the P600 but the rear size is not made in a P6000
and the fronts are no longer available as P600. The P600s are W rated
and the P6000s are V and have a different tread pattern. The writing on
the side-wall is almost identical.
The ride is positive and cornering is a breeze - it's very hard to even
get squeal from the back, let alone loosing it. With TABs torqued
properly, my car corners like its on rails - James Russel-Grant was a
passenger in my car and was positively shocked when I took a corner fast
enough that his foot was searching for "the invisible brake pedal"! He
has BFGoodrich's on his car.

There are instructions in the DMCNews tech section on how to remove the
door trim and also how to get to these bolts - but don't do what I did
and destroy your mirror switch trying to remove it! You need to take out
the mirror switch in order to access one of these bolts
I would disagree with Bob - getting the bolts OUT is not a problem.
Getting the buggers back IN, now that's another story...

Hi Payne
I had a chat with the guy who does interior repairs for my garage, and
what he told me makes sense. He said he can repair the cracks in the
dash, but they wouldn't last long. The reason the dash has cracked in
the first place is that the vinyl has dried out and does not flex with
the movement of the car as it should. Repairing the cracks by filing
them in would not get to the root cause.
Some people may remmeber Paul Salsbury has located the original firm
responsible for trimming the DeLorean interior (and more specifically
the seats). He negotiated a price for complete leather re-skinning of
the seats, and it's my top priority in my car. I also plan on getting
the dash, binnacle and centre console re-trimmed in full leather (being
black, it's a bit easier). Ironically it works out cheaper than buying
new parts, and despite the "unoriginality", having the work performed by
the original suppliers is quite attractive. I also expect it to help the
awful road noise I get.

I finally took 4512 out of storage yesterday. I threw in the
battery, and she started right up without hesitation. I haven't seen
her since last September :( I took a little joy ride around the
town. I won't be able to do any more driving until I get my TAB's in
the mail. She is pulling to the right, and I know its not the
steering.
4512 and I will see you all in Memphis!
