I know this has been said before, but it bares repeating. To prevent the
stainless edges from slicing you up like a Ginsu, tape the edges with
electrical tape. It makes for a blood-free experience!

Subject: Getting people to club events...
Last week there was a discussion about getting people to come to club events.
This week I have seen a number of messages about clubs and events around the country including "surprises" to be featured at the events.
IMHO, if you are having some special item (or person, or discussion, etc) of interest at your event the best way to get the most mileage out of it is to TELL US WHAT IT IS! I don't know about others, but the tease of a "surprise" does not generate much additional interest going to a particular event because hyped up surprises are usually a disappointment.
The whole thing seems so silly, like we are in grade school.. "I know something you don't know!".
SO; Ken, Dan, Rich.... What are your big surprises for the events you have planned? Maybe you can increase your attendance if we knew what they were!

I had a similar issue with my second DeLorean when I first got it
where the window would often pop off the track. In my case the root
cause of the problem was that the stop clamped halfway down the lift
guide had slid down the channel slightly allowing the window to
descend too far. When lowering the window it would travel too far
down the track such that the guides at the bottom of the window
carriage would travel past the bottom of the rails and pop off. In my
case the fix as as simple as getting the stop in the right place.
The stop is pretty cludgy and I had a hard time getting to it. It
also didn't seem to grip the channel well (which is probably why it
had shifted downward in the first place). To improve this, I used a
supplemental stop fashioned from a piece of rubber hose and a hose
clamp tightened around the round window channel. There is no
provision for tightening the clam in place (halfway down the interior
of the door), but I tightened it up high on the channel where I could
get at it until I could barely slide it down the channel and then
slid it down and into place. The combination of the rubber stop and
the original metal clamp gives me a secure stop at the right height
preventing the window from descending past the bottom of the rails.

Hey Jim,
Only an owner since last July and not being car savvy (note disclaimer!), I discovered a
frayed accelerator cable as it comes out the sleeve at the engine end. It looked like
one of those cartoon ropes that the coyote is hanging from -with one last thread holding
on! I couldn't believe it!!!
After a local import garage wouldn't touch it, I took matters into my own hands, since
something had to be done.
I clipped the final 'thread', unhooked the simple attachment end at the pedal and pulled
it through. Then with a fresh cable, I fed it through starting at the engine end of the
sleeve. Got within inches of it coming out the other end,. . . and then it didn't.
Bummer.
After a few more tries, I figured I would feed it through from the pedal end.
It worked!
It helps to have a very clean, smooth end with no frays to catch and snag as it goes
through the sleeve.
Again, I'm still learning -yet I was successful with this maneuver, so I'm sure you can
do it.
Remember, this was for replacing the cable. Your cable housing may be causing the
sticking issue.(?)

Hi All,
Well, I guess it has been almost a year since my last update, and many of you have asked me what I have done in that time. The short answer is "nothing".
I was waiting for quite some time for someone to pick up and repair my dented doors, T-panel & rear quarter. When he was not able to pick them up, I brought them to him. He was only able to repair the driver's door and the quarter. So by the time I got them back, it was almost October, and a 1959 DeSoto (just love those "D-E" cars) fell into my lap.
Work on that car kept me away from my home garage for quite a while, but that has now ended. It's a good thing, too, because It's only about 60 days until I have to leave for Memphis. I'd like to finish the car up in the next 45 days, so I have a chance to break the car in a little bit before taking the big drive. Although my car only has 1721.4 miles on her, she sat for almost 15 years completely disassembled.
I've finally started back in on the work that remains, and in the past few days I have painted the rear haunches, engine cover, and trunk compartment with a pebbled black truck bed liner. Looks great, is unbelievable durable, and should last a long time.
I've also hung the hood on, and test hung my dented passenger door.
There are only a few major things left to do:
1) Purchase and install new passenger side door, install driver's door.
2) Install rear window.
3) Install and rebrush all stainless (and louver).
4) Install fascias.
5) Install new windshield.
6) Replace interior carpets.
7) Install new seat covers.
8) Install rest of interior.
9) Alignment.
10) Pennsylvania state inspection, road tests and power tuning, hopefully including a dyno test.
... so I'll be busy.

And here's a question for you tire gurus. Given the lack of AVS-I tires,
people are (obviously) going to start hunting for the Next Best
Thing(tm). As most of us are aware by now, no manufacturer currently
makes a single model tire that will fit on our cars (fore *and* aft) in
the same speed rating as the yoko. So, here's the question: Is it (in
general, knowing full well that some tires are of inherently higher
quality that others) better to have a matched set of tires front and rear
at a lower speed rating, or a mismatched set of four (read: one type in
front and another in rear) at a higher speed rating? If the latter, has
anyone given thought to what combo would be best (or at least "a damn
sight better than the matched sets that are currently available")?

ironicly, i called crutchfield once asking about speaker recommendations and
when i said it was for a DeLorean, they told me they have no information for
that vehicle and that means they will not help AT ALL. they were very rude.

This has to do with *starting* a car club, not maintaining one, and if the moderator feels this is too far off the topic of the list I understand. But I have been attempting to start a classic car club in my area mainly for all types of exotic vehicles- gull wings, kit cars, Prowlers, basically anything anything rare and unique. So far I have not had any luck by listing it on car web sites and was wondering if anyone had any advice. I live in a decent sized area of central California but it is a big car town, and I know there are owners of these types of cars around but I just don't know the best way to even contact one of them on the net. Does anyone know of any e-mail lists for exotic/classics which I may luck out on?

There are two 10mm bolt at the top of the arm rest by the handle. They
are very tricky to get out. you need at least a 8" extension to you
spin tight handle and the 10mm socket. I use a flashlight with the
handle plastic insert removed to better see these bolts.

Just figured this one out myself. After you remove the 4 or so screws and
the plastic barbs, there's one step left. You've got to remove the plastic
trim that goes around the inside door handle/lock (by lifting up the
handle and sliding it out) and remove the mirror switch (drivers side) or
the plastic filler piece (passenger side). Now look in where the mirror
switch was (or the filler piece) and you'll see a 10mm bolt. Take it out,
along with the other one just like it a little further back. The one
closer to the rear of the door is somewhat obstructed by one of the door
lock rods, but it can just be pushed out of the way.
No you should be able to take the lower door panel off.

You have to remember one thing. Whenever you call someone
over the phone now adays, you're probably only talking to a
company that has subcontracted out a call center. Everyone
does it now; Sony, Ford, BellSouth, Sprint, UPS, Logitech, Dell,
etc... So remember, you're usualy talking to someone that
doesn't know about their products. They only know if a customer
says "A", reply with "B", that's all. So when it comes to your
DeLorean (or any other consumer product for that matter), if you
don't get the answer you want the first time, call back again.
You'd be surprised the kind of "night & day" responses you'll get.

The temp got to 70 here in northern Ohio today and I washed my car!
problem is the driver side floor is wet but not the floor mat! I do
notice a lot of water collecting around the gas cap everytime I wash
the car, no draining there... does anyone no where this water on the
driver side could be coming from?

I had a hole in the drivers seat and many cracks from age. A local guy near
me (Oregon) who restores interiors was able to patch the hole, fill the
cracks, and re-dye both seats to ther original color. Nobody can even tell
there was a hole there and it's as strong as it ever was new. I'm sure
anyone who does this type of work could dye it any color you like. He also
claims he can fix the cracks in my instrument binnacle if I can remove it
for him.

Don't go for stated value insurance. Go for agreed value insurance.
With stated value, you may have to prove after the accident that your
car is worth what you stated its value at. With agreed value, the
insurance company has already agreed to the car's value. I am with
