The heat is being caused due to resistance between the fuse connectors and the holder connectors. You need to correct this or your fuse and the fuse box will melt. Fuse #7 is a common candidate for this problem. My suggestion is to replace your fuses with new ones and lightly clean each connector in the fuse box. Checking your fuse box should become an annual procedure to avoid electrical problems. -- ===================================================================== Bryan Pearce E-Mail: bryanp@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx Pearce Design Components Web: http://www.pearce-design.com Stainless Steel DeLorean Frames ===================================================================== ________________________________________________________________________ ________________________________________________________________________ Message: 3 Date: Thu, 27 Dec 2001 13:39:05 -0500 From: "Walter Coe" <Whalt@xxxxxxx> Subject: Re: Hot Fuse > Why is my dip beam fuse getting really hot? Welcome to the club. Luckily, my car is doing fine with the original fuse block; although, some areas have gotten a bit warm before. The first thing to do is replace all your fuses with new ones. On my car, the fuses had a thin barely noticeable layer of oxidation that built up through the years. I tried cleaning with steel wool, but quickly realized that I was wasting my time. If you can't get the fuse holder to clean up and make a good connection, then the next thing to do is bypass it with a new fuse holder. Also, if your original fuse block cover hasn't melted yet, it is better to leave it off. This will keep the fuses cooler and provide less fuel for a fire if/when you have another meltdown. Those molds didn't have anything to do with the actual delorean. go to the following site http://www.codeoneauto.com/frames/bttf_flyingdelorean1.html You will see pics of the molds on that page. erik 4512 ________________________________________________________________________ ________________________________________________________________________ Message: 5 Date: Thu, 27 Dec 2001 14:18:23 -0500 From: "Walter Coe" <Whalt@xxxxxxx> Subject: Re: Why DeLorean? Robert, You speak from my heart. :) I have had these very words spoken to me by a friend, "You should sell that DeLorean and get something more practical like a Corvette." My answer was, of course, "To hell you preach." Corvettes do have their place in society. They make our DeLoreans appear more refined and distinctive. (flame, flame) Some people see modifying the DeLorean as much a heresy as buying a Picasso and painting bigger boobs on the women. "Hey, if you want bigger boobs then find a painting that already has bigger boobs. Don't ruin a rare piece of art." But for me it doesn't bother my conscience to turn my DeLorean into what it should be. When someone asks me, "Does it go fast?" (I am asked this a lot.) I don't want to explain that it doesn't. I have heard another DeLorean owner who shall remain nameless (Randy) answer this question with, "It will bury the needle in the speedometer." Well, at 85mph I should hope so! Considering that I have avoided more accidents using the steering wheel and gas pedal than I have using the horn & the brake pedal -- I want my car as quick & nimble as possible. If that means a new frame, transmission & engine, then fine. I enjoy it. Les, I ran my NCT"S from Mobile, AL to Los Angeles, CA when the DOA EXPO was last held there. When I got back to Mobile, I installed the YokO's AVS. The difference in ride quality was suprising. The Yoko's gave a much smoother ride. I kept my NCT's, approx 20K miles and still look new. This subject has come up many times, and the conclusions end up the same. Put new modern tech tires and save the NCT's for Concours shows. ________________________________________________________________________ ________________________________________________________________________ Message: 7 Date: Thu, 27 Dec 2001 05:32:36 -0600 From: "Brian McCool" <bjmccool@xxxxxxxxx> Subject: RE: SunStar diecast!!! My girlfriend also surprised me with a Sunstar Delorean for Xmas, the "Back to the Future" version. The detail is incredible. It's like the entire car was shrunken. There's even a very tiny "Mr. Fusion" sticker on the Mr. Fusion on top of the engine. ________________________________________________________________________ ________________________________________________________________________ Message: 8 Date: Thu, 27 Dec 2001 20:44:58 EST From: jwit6@xxxxxx Subject: Re: Misc PRV Questions Continued. With no mechanical distributor on a DIS EFI system, where does the vaccum for the Vapor Canister & rotary climate controls originate from? Same place it always did. << 6. Does a turbo charger need to be mounted horizontaly? Can it be relocated to a verticle, or angled position? My only concern would be the lubrication requirements for the impeller. Certain models may be sensitive to orientation, unless they were designed to run dry or fully sealed. I don'tknow the answer to this one. First reason has to be that it's truly unique. Added to that, it's affordable and unique. Most truly unique cars tend to be out of the price range of the average car owner. It's a fun car, it's a car that you drive, not one that you ride in. It's not easy to get in and out of, the clutch pedal is stiff, the steering is stiff, the shifting (at least in the case of reverse) is stiff, the pedals are not of a good size nor a good relationship to each other, rear visibility is not all that great, the side windows would be a joke in any other car. It has a feel, it keeps you alert in that it doesn't ride, shift, steer, sound, or respond like other cars. You seldom forget that you are driving something special. You expect other drivers to be envious and marvel that they can hide their feelings that well. Lots of cars will carry you from point to point, with many interesting variables, but in a DeLorean it's an event. ________________________________________________________________________ ________________________________________________________________________ Message: 11 Date: Thu, 27 Dec 2001 23:39:45 +0100 From: "Cameron Putsch" <putsch.1@xxxxxxx> Subject: why delorean? Let me put it this way. I look forward to driving my delorean every time! Why, it is fun, no matter that it is not going to blow doors off of people( I'mm gonna fix that though). I look forward to every drive in my car, it is comfortable and has a wonderfull interior, good aesthetic integration and quality whitch is more than you can say for the cheap ass gm interiors on many vetts. Contrary to many peoples belief, unless you are a teenage girl with no feel for handling the car handles rather wonderfully with great response and grip(just remember smooth weight management while driving). Every one likes the car and I love the reactions, heck little kids think your a superhero or something! The only bad thing is that you can't be stipid and let your car get banged up because stainless will cost more to replace than fiberglass and bondo on a vette body. Just remember this there are street cars and there are race cars, save your speed for the track and have fun. If you are just not the DMC type fine, have fun with the vette they can be cool to if you don't mind seeing yourself coming and going all the time. On more thing mine is a daily driver and I have put 3000 miles on it since July, they are a great car and if you keep up on maintenence you should have little trouble. My Delorean has become my baby I love it and love to drive it EVERYTIME. We have reset the car back to factory settings. However we have encountered a small adjustment issue. Installed new fuel distributor and control pressure regulator, etc., etc., on new owners car. What is proper way to adjust air/fuel ratio? Engine starts, however only runs when fuel distributor is free (loose) from mixture control unit. (Fuel lines attached) i.e. Engine will stall when three screws to attach fuel distributor to mixture control unit is secure. Engine will run when screws removed, however idle is rough. Seems as though the plunger on the bottom of the fuel distributor is out of sequence with the air plenum arm beneath the air box. This is the first time that I have seen the air plenum and fuel distr. plunger is out of alignment.
