Hi all,
I saw a DeLorean steering wheel for sale on ebay a few weeks ago and
the chap who was selling it said it had come off his Volvo. It was a
proper DeLorean steering wheel and so there must be a Volvo hub that
fits the wheel.

Funny...did you know that ZWEI TURBO is german for TWIN TURBO? (two turbos)
Why would someone write this in german on the rear fascia? Just curious... If Legend did the turbos maybe they used german components? I immediately came to think of Porsche... does anyone else knows anything about this?

But there are a couple of things that I'm curious about. The
photos in the book show the words "ZWEI TURBO" written on the
rear facia, and on the stainless below the rear. Perhaps this was
later removed by DMC when deciding upon side treatments &
designs. As are the 2nd items here which appear to be the
brass badges that say "Twin Turbo Prototype" all over the car. If
this was used for display purposes durring shows and such,
then it would make sense.

[Moderator Response: Thank you for the clarification that this car DOES NOT have gullwing doors. Please do not repond with a discussion of every gullwing kitcar ever made. - Mike Substelny]
I rode in a Sterling as a kid - the whole roof rises up. A wild ride
though - felt so low to the ground.
One kit car that does feature gull wing doors is the Nereia - I believe
it's a spin off of the Nova/Sterling. The fellow that makes them has been
doing it for at least 10 or 15 years - and when he's not building yachts
he's making the kit cars - so you can bet that the fiberglass is great. (I
don't own one, don't work for him, but hope to buy one some day.)

D1 wants 60,000 for a refurbished car, while DMC Houston wants 30,000...
Also if you were going to buy a refurbished car, or have on refurbished who

With the vent assembly removed, install just the rubber boots, properly
oriented (they are not symetrical), to the dash board duct work. Remove both
vent assemblies from the vent assembly housing by gently prying them out
towards the front, at the end where the pivot detent is located. Be careful
to note how the star shaped retainer at the opposite end is assembled to the
vent as it may fall off when you pop out the vent. Install the empty vent
housing and massage the boots onto the housing through the now wide open vent
openings. Then pop the vents back into the housing assembly with the star
shaped retainers properly oriented.

Your short circuit problem is located in your engine compartment light
fixture. If you inspect the fixture you will notice that there is a copper
strip assembly that is part of the lamp holder. A rubber insulator isolates
the contact at one end of the lamp holder. Over time the insulator will dry
rot and cause the two copper contacts to come into contact with each other
resulting in a short circuit. In some cases the insulator is completely
missing. Check to see if this is your problem.
It also appears that you have a problem with the adjustments of your door
switches. David responded with accurate trouble shooting information
concerning your battery drain problem.

Subject: Hot start problem.
It has been a while since I put my question on the list but I (we)
found the problem and I wanted to let you all know for future
reference.
My problem was: When my engine was hot and turned it off and started
it again a few minutes later, it would rev up to 3000 to 3500 RPM.
When I was at the gasstation and had filled up my tank and started
the car again, I was a little ashamed about the noise.
Well, I got some tips from a few people on this list but because I'm
not really comfortable with auto mechanics I wasn't really able to
solve it myself.
This weekend I visited a club member who has more experience. First
we replaced the coldstart valve(102372) but that didn't make a
difference. Then we replaced the control pressure regulator(102353)
but that didn't do much good either.
Well after some more work like removing the catalytic converter and
the Air valve inlet, we replaced the Idle speed ECU(106896)and BINGO,
away was my problem!
Now it starts up easy, even when he's cold, and starts to idle really
nice!

Subject: Re: A DeLorean taxi?
My suggestion is to do a pizza delivery business instead. The work is much
more steady and the passengers would stay warm neatly sitting over the
engine compartment. The pizza sign would fit neatly in the center of the
T-panel. I'm sure that the car would draw a lot of attention and may even
be shown on the local news. That would be good for business, but I wouldn't
expect to get a lot of tips. People would think you are rolling in dough --
not pizza dough; I mean the green stuff.
To take the taxi idea seriously, there are laws that you probably could not
meet. Depending on the state, a vehicle used as a taxi must meet the
current safety requirements. (I don't know if this part is federal or
state.) All new vehicles meet these requirements or they would not be able
to be sold. An older vehicle may not meet these requirements, but if
already placed in service as a taxi when new then it is grandfathered in.
Chances are the DeLorean is too outdated to meet these requirements. Not to
mention that many states have laws that specify that taxis must have seats
that do not absorb liquids, i.e., be covered in tough vinyl. Then you may
be expected to rivet an extra metal license plate on the back of the
vehicle.
I would say that your best chances of success would be to do the stretch
limo like Marc suggested. While you are stretching it, maybe you could make
it a side-loading hearse. I would like to see a digitally edited photo to
make one look like a patrol car. That would be funny.
I'm surprised that the moderator let this thread start. I'm sure whoever it
was is getting flack from the others. :)

Martin,
You said:
"The fuse had overheated gluing itself (though not too badly)
into the socket. A trip to Halfords at lunchtime yesterday for a box of
assorted fuses and she's back up and running with some spare fuses in
the relay compartment!"
This is a common problem and requires that a heavy duty in-line fuse holder
be installed to substitute for the fuse block fuse holder. If not replaced
the same fuse will continue to melt. If the problem is not corrected the
damaged fuse contacts will cause adjoining fuse contacts to overheat and
melt. To reduce heat build up in the fuse block do not install the black
fuse block cover.

Skipper,

Your problem may be related to a bad battery ground connection. Inspect the
main battery ground at the left hand trailing arm bushing fastener.
You asked:
>"Oh and one more thing, i know my AC needs charging, but will thet cure the
> DEEP surge i have when driving or is there another fix, like the fan fix,
> but for ac compressors?"
No; the deep surge is caused by the compressor and both high current cooling
fans all turning on at the same time. A bad battery ground will increase the
voltage loss when the AC switches on. The only practical solution to the AC
current surge problem is to install the TankZilla fuel sender up grade from
PJ Grady and DeLorean Services.

Subject: Re: Low Gas Light
My personal experience:
The OEM fuel sender has a wire that broke causing the float to jam. This
wire is one of the conductors that operate the low fuel warning light. If
your light never comes on, then maybe this wire is broken. I hear that many
OEM fuel senders have this happen. If you are having problems with yours,
then John Hervey is the man to send it to for repair if you don't opt for
the TankZilla.
With my new TankZilla, the low fuel light tends to start flickering on at
around 1/8th of a tank.
Several times I have purposely ran my DeLorean out of fuel. For city
driving, you have plenty of warning because the fuel sloshes away from the
baffle causing the fuel pump to suck air. The car bucks, and you may hear a
farting/gurgling noise as the bubbles run through the fuel lines. The last
time I ran my car out of fuel, I drove around 30 miles from the time it
started bucking to the time where it was sucking enough air that I stopped
because I was worried that I might damage the fuel pump running it dry. So
I confidently say that these cars give plenty of warning before they totally
run dry. But that is for city driving where you have plenty of stops &
starts to cause the baffle to momentarily run dry. Highway driving probably
wouldn't give you the same warning.

Lee,
You are absolutely correct. I have been maintaining a DeLorean component and
systems failure rate data base since 1986. The factory bolt failure rate is
extremely low, all failures appear to be associated with incorrect
torquing at the factory. I know of no failures to any cars with replaced or
properly retorqued bolts.
I don't want to diminish the concerns of this much talked about subject but
at the same time don't want readers of this list to get the impression that
this problem is more common than it actually is.
If your DeLorean has never received a trailing arm bolt inspection than I
suggest you have them checked as soon as possible.

Subject: DeLorean vs. Alpine A310 Question.
Someone mentioned a while back on the list here that the
exhaust headers on the Alpine A310 will not fit on the DeLorean
because of a clearance issue with the crossmember that
supports the engine (I'm assuming the headers described are
the stock one's that point straight down).
So, the question here is does anyone know what the exact
clearances are. or perhaps at the very least does someone have
a photo of this area on an Alpine? Just trying to figure out if the
clearance was with the headers themselves, or just no space to
connect them up to the exhaust system...
